Play Astrology in Action With Me

The astrology of this cluster of aspects has already been showing up dramatically in the news. I invite you to play Astrology in Action with me and share what you see by email or by posting comments to my Facebook page or here on the Astro-Isight blog.  Here are some observations to get you going:

Some of what is coming to light and calling for addressing ties to Christmas Eve through early January and/or early summer 2012. Here’s one example: The last week or two brought to light something called the Heartbleed bug, which affects passwords in a type of cryptography used by roughly 2/3 of all websites — think about that. News reports are that the National Security Administration has known about this flaw for about two years and has been exploiting it to expand its monitoring of us, rather than notifying any of the big sites that have been affected. And that the President authorized the NSA’s action in January.

Another time frame to consider is spring 1995. A lunar eclipse occurred at the same degree of Libra on April 15, 1995 as the eclipse that’s happening this Tuesday.  One pivotal event that happened then was the Oklahoma City bombing, which took place on April 19, 1995. Coincidentally or not, that’s the same day I had my first date with the first man I formally lived with. I’ll be watching for themes related to either to be coming back around again.

The current pressures are directly hitting the US, because its sun is at exactly the degree of the grand cross that’s forming among Uranus, Jupiter, Mars and Pluto, at 13 degrees of the cardinal signs. If you’ve been following the furor over mentions of evolution in the rebooted TV show Cosmos, it should not surprise you that the host, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, was born when the sun was almost at that very degree.

2014 LIbra Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

April 15, 2014
12:42 AM PDT / 3:42 AM EDT / 7:42AM GMT
25 Libra 15

Deep breath. And another. Yes, this month’s Libra full moon is a lunar eclipse with a lasting and powerful effect. But no, it is not the end of life as we know it, no matter what you may have read.

This lunar eclipse is bringing spring cleaning to relationships. Keep that metaphor in mind as the month (and beyond) plays out and your connections rearrange. Some could use a little airing, some are in for deep cleaning, and some are going out the door to make room for new ones that are more appropriate for this new season of your life.

As with so much this month, there is a huge wild-card element at play. Though the direction or the timing may take you by surprise, none of these developments is truly out of the blue. What’s happening now has been a long time coming, for three reasons.

First, a lunar eclipse always has the dual qualities of closing a chapter and of revelation. The two often play into each other; you learn something that changes the game for good. This eclipse is delivering a bigger picture and understanding of what has been going on in your relationships — whether they’re reciprocal; what the ground rules are; whether the purpose or agreement fits both of you at this point. Watch for “Aha! That explains a lot!” moments. As it shines a light behind the scenes, the eclipse is also bringing feelings to the surface. Enormous feelings, possibly. But don’t panic — what’s coming up is beneficial, as we’ll see in a minute.

Second, this eclipse is awakening themes and issues from April 1995, the last time a Libra lunar eclipse occurred at this degree. Whether the players are the same or not, you have the opportunity now to revisit, redo or make a different choice about an important relationship development that took place that spring or summer. For example, if you left a marriage then, you may now discover and clear out a residual attachment (which you may not have even suspected was there). Or you might, instead, become aware of how drastically you have rewritten personal relationship guidelines since that spring. If you started a relationship in 1995, it was probably unlike anything you would remotely consider now.

Finally, the jumble of endings, adjustments and beginnings occurring now are tied to the ongoing reshaping of the metaphoric earth beneath our feet, which has been cracking and shifting since June 2012. Another round of shifting is building as this eclipse takes place. The tension from the build-up is accentuating and accelerating the the shuffling and reshuffling we’re experiencing in relationships. It’s also bringing up for reconsideration, reworking or renewal developments that occurred between last Christmas Eve and New Year’s.

Here’s why not to panic: No matter what surface form events take, the effect is beneficial in the long run — and exactly where you want to be.

You’ve got ample motivation to rethink arrangements and agreements, renegotiate them, shake them up and even blow them up. (The Powers That Be could deliver an easy out for that last possibility). The gumption comes from the Moon having just passed action god Mars in Libra, while the breaking of perspectives and locks is courtesy of messenger Mercury scheming with unpredictable change agent Uranus.

Everything that unspools, morphs or falls into place has a fated, even blessed quality to it. The Moon is smack up against the North Node of destiny, a combo that is pointing the way to the future. A softened, healing, even heaven-sent feeling is in the air. It’s lingering from Friday’s meeting between the gods of earthly and higher love: Venus, ruler of the Libra Moon and all we hold dear, and Neptune, lord of transcendence, magic and illusion. Venus is in her most exalted mode in the sign of Pisces, and her meeting with Neptune works as a baptism in the most spiritual, compassionate experience of love.

This bodes well for soothing, sweetness and kindness as our relationships rearrange. The combined influence of Venus and Neptune gives us a fighting chance to see God in the eyes of the people this eclipse brings to the fore, whether they’re walking out the door, tempting us to strangle them, or offering their heart. Nostalgia, weepiness, ecstasy and compassion are likely side effects, too. Venus has another gift as well. She’s closing in on Chiron, the embodiment of our core wounds and challenge to master physical existence. Long-festering hurts involving of self-worth and lovability are finding balm, comfort and resolution, all of which color and steer the changes going on.

Effectively, the lunar eclipse is hitting reset. The results will take time before we perceive them fully. The situation is like when a cable company sends a signal to the cable box and several minutes elapse while the system reboots. Old programming has been overwritten, and a process must run before the new programming takes control.

Our waiting period lasts at least through the grand cross of the 20th to the 23rd, when Mars and Jupiter lock into the ongoing clash between cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto. The cross will suspend us in the radical restructuring that we’ve been undergoing for two years. It may feel as if we’re hanging in the air, on our bellies, being pulled in the four directions of identity, home, relationship and career, and looking down deep into the cracks, fissures, and new forms that those foundational issues are taking. When the configuration begins to break up after the 23rd, we’ll be put back on our feet — and our new traveling parties will either be with us or sending signals that they’ll be coming along soon.

Forecast for April 2014

Welcome to the most dramatic, life-changing month of the year. April is one protracted cluster of dynamic, challenging, reality-altering influences. Pressure we’ve been feeling all year can no longer be avoided or contained. It’s going to blow, erupt, startle, excite and dazzle in nonstop action. It’s splitting open and restructuring the very ground beneath our feet, while a cosmic hand hits the reset button on relationships and financial matters.

Exactly how this will happen can not be predicted, by anyone. An enormous, nigh on feral wild card element is at play. We won’t see a lot of the changes coming, sometimes in the form, sometimes in the direction or source, sometimes in the timing.

The areas under assault are not surprises, however. You’ve been feeling rumblings. You’ve been feeling dissatisfaction. You’ve been making your own stabs at rearranging certain areas, situations and relationships. Look at what in your life has been hammered, destabilized and primed for remodeling (or demolition) since the summer of 2012. Keep looking and you’ll see tendrils stretching back to the summer of 2009 as well. Most immediately, recall what changed life as you knew it between Christmas and New Year’s. Perhaps that happened only in your point of view; perhaps it played out in events and external situations. Developments from all those times, the beginning of the year especially, are coming back around again for readdressing.

The explosive Aries New Moon of March 30 delivered the first freeing blast. Two categories of change influences are behind the tumult coming in April: a series of related transformative aspects and a pair of eclipses, a lunar in Libra and solar in Taurus, interspersed among those aspects. There’s a saving grace, too: Venus, goddess of all we value, dipping into the compassionate, universal waters of Pisces on April 5 and making a series of heart-opening, heart-healing and ultimately grounding aspects throughout the month.

The harsh aspects (category one above) are escalating the change imperative of the ongoing clash, or square, between Uranus and Pluto, the agents of unforeseeable and unavoidable change. One celestial body after another is jumping into their conflict, in wave after wave of t-squares increasing the pressure for structural change, until overload and deadlock hit with the four-way stand-off of the cardinal grand cross — after which our thinking rearranges and allows moving ahead.

These waves are not like water, but more like waves of earthquakes and aftershocks, overlapping as they build and crest and fade. The first, from April 1-3, sends the Sun into Uranus’ rebellious ambit and inflames motivation to break free, to remake yourself and to be your own person. We have no choice, with bigger-is-better Jupiter egging us on, and Pluto’s foundational fractures (and the wee fear beasties squirming from them) bearing down on us with an evolve-or-die mandate. Eat your spinach; it’s not only nourishing, but fueling your courage and daring to meet this month headlong.

The grounding cord for this wave consists of the clear, stabilizing messages and thinking from Mercury trining Saturn. Venus’ shift to Pisces on the 5th softens our hearts and opens us to higher guidance. Use that as GPS when this first wave crests with relationship standoffs, showdowns and compromises, as the Sun opposes Mars on the 8th. These are part and parcel of the revelations, closures, exits and emotional high tides associated with the Libra Full Moon lunar eclipse that’s building.

While that wave is still resounding, the two rulers of love, Venus and Neptune, meet on the 11th. Their union provides a brief escape, if not a taste of magic and bliss (no joke!), as well as the personal and relationship benefits inherent in the bold and drastic changes we’re undergoing and witnessing.

The second wave peaks midmonth, with the first eclipse in tow. The 14th perfects a t-square from Jupiter and Pluto to Mercury and Uranus, tilting perspectives, unlocking thinking and ambushing us with information that ignites and perhaps inflames. As this occurs, Pluto stations for his annual retrograde, which begins the slow and steady build-up of pressure for the coming waves.

The next day brings the lunar eclipse at 25 Libra, which will roll out chapter endings and emotional closure into the fall. This eclipse is a recurrence of one on April 15, 1995. Events that occurred during the spring and summer of 1995 indicate themes that are coming to a head again for you. (Read a full discussion in my mooncast later this month.) This second wave crests on the 16th, when a Mercury-Mars opposition further lights up relationship standoffs, showdowns and compromises.

Immersion quickly follows in emotional healing, profound forgiveness (of yourself, first of all) and a palpable sensation of divine love, as Venus meets Chiron and makes a lovely link to Jupiter on the 17th. This promises to dissolve longstanding relationship wounds, self-worth issues and inability to allow yourself to be human. Powerful, potent, important desires could be in reach as well, thanks to the opportunity aspect between Venus and Pluto on the 18th. Making them tangible dovetails with the emphasis on the here and now that surges when the Sun begins its annual stay in Taurus (and begins his approach to the coming solar eclipse) on the 19th.

The hottest, most challenging stretch of the month occurs between the 20th and 23rd, as Jupiter, the influence of expansion, and then Mars, the god of war, enter the ring with Uranus and Pluto. Their configuration creates a grand cross in the cardinal signs, which will simultaneously rev the impulse to move and yet prevent movement. You may well feel like you are being pulled in four directions. Breathe. Breathe some more. Wait it out, as agonizing as it may feel.

In the moments when your head stops spinning, think back to the beginning of 2011. This cross is taking place at the same degree as that January’s Capricorn solar eclipse, which refocused the trajectory for long-term goals, long-term security and other foundational aspects of your life. The cardinal cross is activating that trigger and redefining core issues of identity, home, relationship and career.

That’s not the only time period coming back around. During this cross, Uranus and Pluto perfect the fifth of the seven squares they are making from June 2012 through March of next year. The square is momentarily stretching and laying bare the radical restructuring that you have been undergoing for the past two years. A story line runs from June and September 2012 to May and November of last year, to now. The current chapter is heavy on rewriting relationships. You’ve hit the end of the line with old patterns. Certain people and types of connections are annoying, frustrating and irritating you to the point that you are calling quits. Other people and types of connections are presenting themselves as allies and desirable travel companions. Like the Libra lunar eclipse, Uranus, Pluto and their companions in the cross are demanding that you rewrite your relationship groundrules. Resistance is futile; change is inevitable.

By now, the benefits are coming well and easily into view. The last week of the month fosters a practical bent and mental clarity, blossoming into refreshed, refocused perspective and cause for optimism. Hearts and relationships calm down, take defined form and grow secure, stable and tangible.

By the 29th, we’re ready for the power-up of the Taurus New Moon solar eclipse. It’s launching a solid, new relationship to self-worth and stewardship of personal resources, talents and assets. (For more on that eclipse, read my mooncast, which will be posted late in the month.) So much has changed or departed. So much has been left behind, redesigned, rearranged or restructured. You may be left with less, but it will feel like more.

2014 Aries New Moon

March 30, 2014
11:44 AM PDT / 2:44 PM EDT / 6:44 PM GMT
9 Aries 58

The year’s big action is beginning. The Aries new moon is kicking off a month — and a spring — full of seismic shifts, eruptions, challenges and potential for self-actualization.

You have been feeling the pressure all year. Cracks and rumblings have been growing more insistent in the areas of life that are on the brink of rearranging. Each new moon of 2014 has sent a power surge through these areas (and you), increasingly destabilized them and propelled you further and further from your personal status quo.

As motivating, irritating and exhilarating as those new moons have been, they were only the warm up act. The Aries New Moon is now detonating the mother of all booster rockets. This one finally frees us from the gravitational pull of life as we’ve known it, and shoots us into a wild new adventure.

The effect is sudden, unmistakable and anything but gentle. It is igniting and speeding up developments, like a fire erupting into a conflagration at the opening of a door. With that level of force in play, there’s no more time for premeditation. Impulses, leaps and reactions will be spontaneous and as abrupt as lightning.

Say goodbye to being stuck or feeling complacent and comfortable. It’s time to Do Something About those fundamental life issues that have been crumbling beneath your feet all year. Fortunately, you’ve been thinking about them. More importantly, your heart has been figuring them out, too. And it’s about to enjoy a wild ride indeed.

The volatile, uncontrollable, rebellious and nigh on feral properties of Uranus are fueling this blast-off. He’s at the core of this event, in a close conjunction with the New Moon, and standing at the exit door. His location and relationship to the New Moon amps up its quality of a fiery force being ignited and unleashed. The Sun and the Moon are each zooming toward Uranus as they meet, and the cosmic change agent is the first planet each encounters after they separate.

Uranus himself is also buzzing with the energy of movement. He is heading into his own important meeting, the next clash with Pluto and the push-me-pull-you lineup in the cardinal signs (known as the cardinal cross) that will dominate the skies and our lives in the second half of April. That clash and line-up will hit the reset button for all of us, and Uranus is already reaching for it.

The ruler of the Aries New Moon, Mars, is also the ruler of our drive. He is currently under the command of his lady love Venus (because he is in the sign of Libra, which she rules). The cosmic couple is still resonating with the lovely link-up they’re enjoying the day before, on Saturday. This contact is opening a channel for interpersonal harmony and for desirable developments in a relationship. It also holds the promise of a wish you made at the beginning of the month sliding effortlessly and delightfully into reality.

None of this trifling. This is not a formula for flings or insignificance, and certainly not for hitting the finish line. Saturn, the lord of structure and responsibility, is chaperoning the hot date. The hard aspect that he is making to Venus is molding her interaction with Mars. It’s adding seriousness to their business, monkey or otherwise. Saturn is interjecting notions of obligation, commitment, ramifications, consequences and, in some cases, delays (“These things take time”) , at the same that he is imposing form and structure onto what the lovers are spawning. His participation — interference, if you will — acts as a governor.

That cautioning influence might turn out to be welcome, given how everything else in the sky is calling for quick change. The prospect is scary. It may make your head spin and solar plexus twitch. It’s not, let’s be honest, always going to be comfortable.

Yet it’s also exciting, enlivening and freeing. You will likely find much of what’s ahead to actually be fun. And admit it: You’re on board with the prospect of change. In fact, you’re chomping at the bit. You are motivated to go for what you want, and you recently got a taste of exactly that.

More is on the way. The recent past holds clues. Look back to what broke through the surface between Christmas and New Year’s, and the reevaluation you went through from the middle of December through the end of January. Both developments come back into play with a vengeance during April. This New Moon is catapulting you into the fray: Full of courage. Free of deadwood, dead weight and dead ends. (Or ready to be free. Or open to the concept.) And raring to jump in, come what may.

It’s time to star in you own action picture. Suit up now.

Forecast for 2014 Virgo Full Moon

March 16, 2014
10:09 AM PDT / 12:09 PM PM EDT  4:09 PM GMT
26  Virgo 2 / 26 Pisces 2

This month’s this-way-and-that energy has had many of us chasing our tails. That’s likely to ease with the clarity, stability and forward drive now on offer from the Virgo Full Moon.

Mercury, ruler of the mind, is currently in charge of the Moon, who brings an analytical, discerning bent to matters that are cresting now. They bear the effects of the cosmic messenger’s journey this week, which threw ideas and mental processes against a wall and then sent minds and mouths racing to implement what we saw we had to do. What took on contours for you this week? What ideas are you seeing differently? Pushing ahead?

If they haven’t settled for you yet, fear not. We’re still in the throes of perfecting. This Moon encourages stepping back to ponder and, most of all, perceive both flaws and fixes. Adjustments are part of the package. That’s the nature of the close link Mercury is making to the Moon. They’re not quite in sync, but flicking us toward tweaks here and there.

Emotional tweaks are often the least comfortable to make, but you may find them happening all the same. Your usual modus operandi won’t work. Adjustments must be consistent with your current state of being, not tricks that have gotten you through in the past. (Have you considered asking for guidance? That could well be part of your new regime.)

These new ways aren’t fleeting. We’re heading toward permanent adjustments, permanent fixes, and permanent changes in approach. Stabilizing Saturn is in easy communication with both the Sun and the Moon. He’s underscoring personal responsibility, helping us sink our anchors down, and opening doors to healthier boundaries and exchanges in intimate and financial connections. Saturn’s role is also highlighting what it would benefit you to finish, to release and to leave behind.

More information is on the way. So are more conversations, realizations and decisions. Some are long in coming. Some have no choice but to happen, as if hands are being forced. The shoving quality is the aftermath of last week’s clash between Mercury and Saturn.  Both planets are in a helpful relationship to the Sun and Moon, though, so we might now see how recent bumps could be — or are — beneficial.

Mars, the ruler of our drive, is in the mix, too. He’s pushing for tweaks and adjustments in how we assert ourselves and go after our goals. Those are not a stretch, though. He’s also showing that we’re in new emotional territory — cleaner, clearer, more intact perhaps, or maybe simply more aware.

Think of this Full Moon as a stopping point, a clearing out point, a point of perspective and clarity while certain concepts and projects lock into place and others go away. It’s akin to last-minute preparations before a trip, tidying up, doing laundry and picking out clothes, and taking care of paperwork and details. We will move on soon enough, toward the excitement of the month’s end, when desires erupt (happily) and booster rockets propel us into April’s dynamism.
