Forecast for September 2-6, 2013

Clarity is the gift of the week. Calm might be in the mix, too — at least, more than we’ve seen lately — but overall we get to step back, catch our breath, take a good look around and assess. After we mull over what we see, we’ll find cause for optimism and self-satisfaction by the weekend. Certain relationships are headed for a happy place, too.

You’re in the process of getting the distance from last month’s intense pressure to see what it means for you personally. The pressure peaked in a metaphoric birth that delivered much into a new form: relationships, attachments, attitudes, some aspect of yourself. Last weekend refined your focus; now you face an adjustment (or choice) in how you view and present yourself. When the Sun hits a crossroad with radical, awakening Uranus on Tuesday, you may have the latitude to break away from a factor that no longer fits or feels good to you. Whichever path you choose, it’s part of the process of gaining clarity.

That is also the mission of Thursday’s Virgo New Moon.  It’s by nature geared toward analytical and discerning thinking, striving for betterment, and tending to boundaries. This one has a more heightened detached and mental component than the norm, because it happens right next to the communication planet and the sign’s ruler Mercury.  This Moon cycle gives you a dispassionate eye for the next couple of weeks as you sift through the wreckage and wonders of last month and encounter the current crop of developments. Think of it as Spock vision. It’ll carry us through to the Pisces Full Moon on the 19th. For more on the New Moon, read my mooncast.

Clear thinking is neither depressing nor boring. By Saturday, the Sun makes an easy and helpful link to beneficent Jupiter that brightens your world immeasurably. You have every possibility of feeling great about yourself and your prospects. Bask in the late summer sun, and in relationships that make you feel good to be alive. One in particular is especially blessed this weekend. Put the analyses on pause. Enjoy that connection.

Forecast for August 26 – September 1, 2013

Last week was full of jolts, hair-pin turns, game-changers and eye-openers. Even if you made it through without whiplash (and some people did), you have been feeling the effects — and so, increasingly, are key relationships.

Your vision is different. Your heart and attitude are, too, particularly where a core factor is concerned. Situations and viewpoints that were rooted in certainty have been yanked into — well, you aren’t completely sure what.

That’s what you’re figuring out now. Venus, the planet that rules all we value, is running a gauntlet of harsh contacts to all the players behind last week’s dust-ups. The dust-ups are finding their way to relationships, agreements (particularly involving money) and general good manners, working them over and ultimately tempering them.  Over the weekend, Venus heated up huge and primal desires and yearnings that are screaming for satisfaction and threatening (yea, verily, requiring the rewriting of) the foundations of many a relationship. Now she is staring down rebellious, uncontrollable, unconfinable Uranus, and last week’s turmoil is sending shock waves into all our relationships.

Perhaps you’re chomping at the bit for something new and daring, but it’s out of reach. Perhaps you see the relationship changes that are inevitable after last week and the prospect is freaking you out. Perhaps, also because of last week, certain arrangements are fraught with nervousness, edginess and electricity.  Perhaps you are tingly with readiness for the next, inevitable, exciting stage, but circumstances are not quite lined up for it.

No worries. (That’s just a figure of speech, you realize.) Venus’ next stop has the potential to escalate and capitalize on last week’s twists and turns and also reveal the silver lining within them. She’s making a forceful link to Jupiter that speeds up the epidemic of growth spurts. It’s pushing the desire for gratification and indulgence to the max. It’s hinting at the personal benefits in even the most unwelcome events of last week, and those hints are coming through relationships. (Clue:  appropriate ones are glowing all the more golden; detrimental ones are hurting all the more as well.)

Our hearts will have their way, in a big way, even if we can’t get it immediately. We’ll soon start trying, though. The drive to go for it ramps up before Venus moves out of this stalemate, when her cosmic partner Mars enters Leo, sign of the self, the eternal child, and fiery, playful, dramatic action.

After our hearts come to grips with last week, our minds wrap themselves around it. Cosmic messenger Mercury makes his own links to last week’s power players, and the dust-ups’ impact spreads through messages, mental workings and how we get around.  We lose interest in distractions and zero in on hard, empowering truths (from an easy link between Mercury and Pluto, on Wednesday). We face choices in perspective and frame of reference; we grapple with information that opens up our options and breaks us from expectations of what we assumed was coming (from an adjustment aspect to Uranus, on Thursday). By Friday, cause for optimism arrives and our information flow and outlook open onto sunny skies and better possibilities than we had foreseen (Mercury sextile Jupiter).

All that glitters is not gold; some of it is silver. It’s sparkling, if we’ll look, in what we’re seeing now. It has the potential to make us more confident and comfortable in ourselves, even if we have to cut away attachment to the past, or a fear, or a dead something that we’ve continued to carry around. At this point, cutting loose is only a good thing.

Forecast for August 2013 Aquarius Full Moon

August 20-21, 2013
6:45 PM PDT / 9:45 PM EDT / 1:45 AM GMT
28 Leo 11 / 28 Aquarius 11

This is when the pressure erupts. This when the water breaks, the labor pains escalate into regular, forceful contractions and birth quickly follows.

The huge themes of the past two to four weeks are hitting a point where Something Has to Happen. Processes are already underway, most with no stopping or calling back. The tensions, the stirrings, the urgings, the growing suspicions, the new-found resolve — all these are already reshaping inner landscapes and outer situations. We’re in an epidemic of enormous, sudden but not unexpected movement.

This week’s Full Moon is the culmination of a longer than average Moon cycle, as well as a major and transformative astrological confirmation.  The prolonged cycle began with the first Aquarian Full Moon on July 22, at the very first degree of Aquarius, while this week’s Moon is at the next-to-last degree of the sign. (The degrees alone should signal beginning stages moving to a completion stage, even if you aren’t particularly conversant in astrology.) The weeks between them have coincided with what may be the most intense single aspect configuration of the entire year: bigger-is-better Jupiter heating up the ongoing battle between Uranus and Pluto, the agents of radical and unavoidable change.

Each of these Full Moons has been lighting up how well, effectively or comfortably our group associations validate, foster or have room for our individuality. In July, Jupiter had a showdown with Pluto and whipped up huge, primal life-altering rumblings in our psyches and the foundations of our lives and world. Friendships, organizations and long-standing dreams and wishes have been especially feeling the heat. So has any situation that has invalidated, demeaned, undercut or otherwise made us feel less than good about ourselves.

Now Jupiter is bearing down on volatile Uranus, the planet that rules the Full Moon, and release is inevitable.  Many situations, arrangements and attitudes have hit the end of the line. You can not keep going the way you have.  Anybody’s guess how the individual sagas will play out — Uranus is a wild-card wielding trickster — but it’s a given that at least one major component of every life will shape shift this week, probably suddenly.

There’s a significant fed-up quality to what’s going on. The energies of this Moon deliver an objectivity that flips a switch permanently. No more throwing your gifts in front of people who don’t even see them, much less appreciate them. No more dancing and performing and waving frantically for attention. No more letting objectionable behaviors, beliefs, expectations or projections slide off your back. No more sticking out negative-to-hellish situations because you fear you haven’t tried hard enough, or because you’re afraid to be alone, or because you hope that if you hang in just a little longer the other person will see the light/resolve his problems/issues/hesitance/fill-in-the-blank and your connection will magically transform into bliss, or even into common decency. No more putting up with.

Beware putting focus and responsibility outside yourself. If other people aren’t paying attention to you, instead of publicly shaming them and flooding social media with “poor me” posts, why not move on? If you keep one foot (or hooks) in a situation that a greater force is removing from your life, clinging will make the removal process all the more messy, painful and possibly even dangerous.

Big words for what’s going on are self-actualization and individuation. Change is coming from within. Relationships will sort themselves out soon enough.

Do not fear this. That’s futile. So is resistance. Besides, you’ve been looking for a way out. It’s here. And better than that: Dead structures are imploding.  New structures are bursting into being.

Forecast for August 19-25, 2013

This week could be crazy. It will definitely be hopping. By the end of it, many of us will be feeling much better. Until then…all bets are off.

The tension that’s been building is finding release. Some of that is going to micmic a pressure cooker (remember that?) erupting with so much steam that the lid blows off. That’s not the only quality of the week, however. It has three big beats:  impulsive-to-explosive action, regrouping and analysis, and then more action, coupled this time with clarity.

A Uranian double punch leads off the week. Uranus strikes with the force and unpredictability of lightning, delivering flashes of genius, shattering locks, chains and points of view, and flipping the course of events in an instant. He is in not only in charge of Tuesday’s Full Moon, but also setting off pyrotechnics with Jupiter early Wednesday morning.

The coinciding of these two events collapses them effectively into one experience. The Full Moon, the second this summer in the sign of Aquarius, continues lighting up how well our individuality is finding expression in the context of a group.  (Read more in my mooncast, which will posted by Tuesday.) The clash with Jupiter escalates the tension that’s been building all month and pushes it beyond the point of being tolerated. You’re aware of what’s been stirring and gaining strength for the past two weeks or more. Now the labor pains intensify, the water breaks, the contractions quicken and a development that has been gestating springs into being.

This is a shoot-first, look-later influence, triggering sudden, emboldened, even shocking realizations, moves, leaps, shifts, eruptions, blows, breakthroughs, breakups and just plain breaks. Connections, associations, organizations, even dreams could change in the blink of an eye — or the flash of a flame igniting a match (fuse/firework/oil-soaked rag). You could find that action you’ve been mulling over is suddenly a done deal, birthed by a boldness, daring and insistence you might not have thought possible.

What sets off this week’s flurries isn’t necessarily dramatic, however, although some of it certainly will be. Situations have become so destabilized, and so ripe for a new form, that they could morph at the slightest touch, like a person walking by a house of cards and the air movement, or a creaking floorboard, being enough to cause the structure to collapse.

Relationships in particular will look quite different on the other side of this. It’s the final tightening of the t-square that has Jupiter opposite Pluto, the agent of unavoidable change. Both are bearing down on Uranus, and the place where all the pressure will dump out is across from Uranus, in Libra, the relationship sign. It’s as if an archer has been pulling a bow and arrow back excruciatingly far and is finally letting the arrow fly. It lands on the playing field of relationships, which will shapeshift into forms that are ultimately more suitable for you.

While the excitement, blasts and shock waves are reverberating, the Sun and Mercury move into the feet-on-the-ground, analytical mode of Virgo, on Thursday and Friday. The shift provides both grounding and distance. It kicks us into objectivity, helping us to think, talk and strategize about everything that’s going on as well as how all of it can be improved upon. “What does this mean?” “What can I do with/about this?” are more probable reactions than swearing at the sky, the gods or another person, even when yet another shoe drops.

The weekend intensifies the action again. The two planets of desire and money, Venus and Pluto, ramp up primal, nonrational magnetic attractions and impulses. Some are naughty, some transgress propriety (triangles are the geometry of the weekend), and some we’d rather keep private, for whatever reason. Yet out they are coming into the light, along with with a bracing dose of self-knowledge. Whatever happens this week, whatever dramas play out over the weekend, we will not be stumbling about confused. Mental clarity is the final gift of the week, and what we are most clear about is ourselves.

Forecast for August 12-18, 2013

The pressure’s still on. It is pushing and shoving us through an uncomfortable, unavoidable and unstoppable process, toward a culmination we can’t entirely predict.

Until that pops out — next week, at the earliest —  growing pains are still with us. So are labor pains and whiplash from the rollercoaster that life is simulating just now. The fundamental cosmic influences of last week are still in control, so much so that I refer you back to last week’s forecast for this week’s overview.

There’s one wrinkle: This week may be less intense. (What a wrinkle, right?) That could be because no new dramas are complicating the ones already in progress, or that could be because you are growing somewhat accustomed to the pressure.

Whichever, the week does feel like the eye of the storm. The eye is a momentary calm, not the end of the storm, but a brief break in it, when the winds die back and you can step outside and see evidence of what the storm has been doing — before the winds ramp up and the rest of the storm moves through.

Enhancing the calm, or at least the illusion, is a lovely shift in our desire to connect with each other. Venus, the ruler of relationships, money, creativity and all that we hold dear, is moving on Friday into her second home of Libra, aka relationship central. While here Venus prefers harmony and grace in words, music, art and, of course, how we get along. She inclines us to strive for (not necessarily achieve) balance and fairness. She’ll be advocating for civility and beautiful turns of phrase in the midst of turmoil, and for creating works of art to capture, process or convey this extraordinary process of growth.

2013 Leo New Moon

August 6, 2013
2:51 PM PDT / 5:51 PM EDT  9:51 PM GMT
14 Leo 12

“Let your light shine” is the imperative of this month’s Leo New Moon.  Fortunately, it’s giving you the fuel to do just that — and the timing couldn’t be more helpful.

While the rest of the sky is bombarding you with highly emotional, challenging and life-altering influences, this Moon is amping up your ability to carry on despite it all. Who knows, you might have a little fun, even.

The New Moon is boosting your vitality, fortitude, confidence and comfort with yourself. As a result, when upheaval hits, you won’t take it quietly, but will rise up and meet it with the force of your being. It’s spurring you to show your true colors, to express your own spark and to live your life rather the way you think you have to be because of programming, expectations, what your parents said, advertising, TV, or the posturing you’ve been doing to keep a situation or person or arrangement in your life.  As a result, when upheaval hits, you won’t take it quietly, but will rise up and meet it with the force of your being.

Two influences are pushing you into break-out mode. One is the Moon’s harsh contact to the Nodes of Fate, which embody what you and the collective are moving away from (i.e. the past and knee-jerk behaviors) as well as what you (and the collective) are moving toward. The Nodes are bearing down on the Leo Moon, causing its fire to flare and shoot into the Aquarius sector opposite it in the sky.  The pressure is forcing you to act, to perform and to strut your stuff, with a noticeable impact on your role in a group context. The nature and extent of this impact will come to light over the next two weeks, culminating in the Aquarius Full Moon of August 20.

The other break-out influence is Uranus, the awakener, the rebel and the agent of unforeseeable change. He is in the easy flow of a trine to the New Moon, which means that each fuels the other.   The more you express yourself, step into the spotlight, and/or receive attention, the more limitations will burn off and circumstances will open up to allow you to express yourself, step into the spotlight, receive attention, etc., etc., etc.

Passion, enthusiasm and raw life force will flare at unexpected moments and without premeditation.  When life hands you lemons, this New Moon supplies the juicer — and a high-powered one at that. Just think of how you’ll handle the good stuff.

Forecast for August 5-11, 2013

There’s no escaping the tension that is building. It is the metaphoric equivalent of labor pains. As they grow more and more noticeable this week, we may hope, wish, pray and, yes, even scream for release. That, alas, is a couple of weeks away.

The pressures leading up to that will make us extremely conversant with the areas of life that are undergoing profound, unavoidable and inevitable change. The labor pains metaphor is apt, because what’s happening is a form of birth.  We are well into an arduous, irreversible and life-changing physical process (and aware of it). It has waves of pressure and discomfort leading to water breaking, contractions intensifying and something, eventually, coming into being.

This week, the process draws attention to the condition of our foundations, and particularly how they’re faring in the ongoing upheaval. Measurable fundamental restructuring has already occurred in at least the last year (and to some extent since January 2008).  We’re only about one-third of the way through the remodeling, though, which will be intense through 2015.

Jupiter is contributing his enlarging touch to this phase of the project. He directly opposes Pluto (agent of unavoidable, deep-level change) on Wednesday.  What’s coming up now is being exaggerated to the point of appearing cartoonish, not merely in political and collective news (currently an angry, gun-slinging mash-up of the Wild West, Old South and The Handmaid’s Tale), but also in our private lives.  Fears, insufficiency, hunger and overwhelming, even unfathomable emotions are welling around family and long-term security issues, traditions, food, emotional sustenance and nurturing.

Pulling the covers over your head will not silence these issues. They will find you, even in your sleep, sorry to say, and push you to daring (for you) and unapologetic solutions that do not rely on anyone’s assistance or intervention. They may not take shape, and the new you may not fully reveal itself, for a few weeks, during which your idea of what’s about to happen may cycle through multiple versions. Jupiter will keep the pressure going until the 21st, when he squares Uranus (agent of unpredictable, radical change).

This stretch coincides neatly with the next lunar phase, which launches with Tuesday’s Leo New Moon and culminates in the summer’s second Aquarius Full Moon, on the 20th. In the midst of the rising and roiling waters, the Leo New Moon stokes our inner fires. It’s fueling fortitude, courage and the willingness to meet the pressures head-on and even enjoy them. It’s kindling impulses to live, love, shine and play. Take the stage (center, if you dare), step into the light and bask in it. You’ll dance right into the pivotal moment and be forcefully bearing down on the contractions yourself by the Full Moon. Read more in my mooncast, which will be posted by Tuesday.

Mercury adds to the joi de vivre when he enters the Sun’s base of Leo on Thursday. The ruler of communication and transportation is making like a fire that burns quickly and hot, spending only two weeks (again, that lunar phase) in the sign this time around.  No one’s likely to endure the tension and upheaval quietly. We’ll be high-energy, expressive, dramatic and playful, maybe a bit childish, maybe a bit over the top, but definitely diving verbally into the fray.

More’s in my extended weekly forecast, which includes day to day analyses. For another take on this week’s events, listen to my quickie podcast.
