Forecast for September 30 – October 6, 2013

Another lurching growth spurt is open us. This one has an usually lasting impact, because it sets up the platform and the direction of movement for the fall.

It is the next way station in the restructuring and evolution that is ongoing inside and around us. We’ve changed. Now our foundations and institutions are changing, and so is our bottom line.

This week builds on developments in August. Think back to about 2/3 of the way through that month. Major shapeshifting happened then — perhaps internally, perhaps in a relationship, but definitely with a significant aspect of birthing a new form.

The same kind of astrological pressure is at work now, with a change in players and positions. The pressure comes from the dynamic configuration of a t-square, with a different planet taking the brunt of the action.

Mid-August had expansive Jupiter and morph-master Pluto bearing down on radical, awakening Uranus, who pushed us all into a less fettered way of being. (Understanding this may require some pondering, but most people I’ve discussed this with have been able to identify a significant change around that time.)

Now we are standing fully in that new way, whatever it means for you personally, and seismic shifts are rippling out. Our new way of being is forcing all manner of changes in the structures that support us, as the Sun and the Libra New Moon team with Uranus to bear down on Pluto, the lord of transformation, in Capricorn, the sign of long-term security, material goals and major institutions.

This round of remodeling is fundamental, affecting huge issues of wealth, power, sex and other primal desires. That’s because Pluto isn’t the only target of this pressure. Anything that happens to him these days carries over as well to Saturn, the ruler of order, because each of them is in the other’s home sign. The current pressure is revamping concepts of control, authority, trust, intimacy, reciprocity and return on investment. Scary (and scared) nonrational impulses that generally lurk out of sight are surfacing and writhing in the open.

This evolutionary process continues through the fall for two reasons. First, the influence is core to Friday’s New Moon in Libra, which is the first of the autumn and sets the tone for the whole season. (Read more in my mooncast, which will be on the site by Thursday.)

Second, this configuration sets the stage for November, when this week’s demand for change escalates into the wave of the future. That’s when Pluto, this week’s pressure point, hosts the Scorpio New Moon, with Saturn (this week’s featured guest) in attendance. That New Moon is a solar eclipse, which will propel us along for at least the six months following.

This week will feel big. It does have lasting ramifications. Pay attention.

Forecast for September 23-29, 2013

This is a week of YES. This is a week of moving from burdens, delays and overwhelm into a mode of “Let’s see how we can make this happen.” After which hunches, talk and messages abandon niceties and dive below the surface, where the real work — and real bugaboos — lie.

THROUGH WEDNESDAY ONLY: FALL ASTRO-FLASH READINGS, 15 MIN., $60. DETAILS HERE.

Everyone’s flexing new muscles. It’s coming more easily to be unhesitatingly, unapologetically yourself, to express your real nature (instead of the pose you’ve been maintaining to get by), and to push yourself forward courageously, and maybe with something approaching childlike abandon. (Okay, so some people are still short of that last bit.)

All of that comes to the fore with Mars, planet of action, making a growth aspect to Jupiter, who subtly but exponentially enlarges everything he touches. Watch for daring, even flamboyant action to get past those burdens, delays and overwhelm (That could include lion-like protectiveness toward situations or people who have your heart.) Taking a deep breath and taking one tiny act could snowball into more than you that was possible. Situations could also spiral into absolute drama, too, unfortunately, so approach your local vortex with caution.

Fortunately, the atmosphere is generally warm and cheery, aided by love goddess Venus making her own easy link to expansive Jupiter.  People are inclined toward sociability and helpfulness. Friendships are flowing. Relationships are blooming. Matters you value deeply are growing. Figuring out what to do next is not a solo sport right now; other people are involved.

Charisma and animal magnetism are in high supply. Mars and Venus, archetypes of the masculine and the feminine, are at extremes in their polarity. The masculine (Mars in Leo) is super courageous, leading and assertive. The feminine (Venus in Scorpio) is hyper magnetic and receptive.

This combination is a signature for courtship. We’re all in a mating dance now. Whether it’s a raise, a promotion, a job, a date, a sexual favor, a chunk of money or more, one side of each equation has something the other side wants, badly.

Actually, each side has something the other wants. With the cosmic lovers making a clashing aspect, something’s got to give. Action is imperative. Moves will be made to snare the desired prize, or at least to knock a situation out of stasis. Getting angry, blowing up or letting off steam could play a tole, but even with that, the planetary line-up is likely to lend a certain charm to week’s scuffles, demands and ultimatums. Taking things “to the next level” will be an unfortunately rampant phrase. If you can get past the cliche, it will have applicability to much in your life.

On an inner level, this hard aspect delivers the rocket fuel needed to turn a desire into reality. The blast is the foundation piece for manifestation that is so often overlooked. It’s lacking, for example, in a misguided segment of the film “The Secret,” when a young woman gazes longingly at a jeweled necklace in a shop window until (insert magic harp sound cue here) the baubles materialize around her neck. We may well set our eye on something we crave as much as she did that necklace, but we won’t simply stand and long. When our heart signals what it wants, our drive will spring after it. We might walk inside and find out the price. Take on extra work to pay for the necklace. Tell a wealthy benefactor we’d like it, please. The point is, we’ll do something.

At the week’s end, cosmic messenger Mercury leaves the graceful intellect of Libra and plummets into the steamy waters of Scorpio for a 10-week stay. (The reason for the length is that he’ll be turning retrograde next month, but more on that later.)  The unspoken will convey more, and carry more weight than, actual words. Telepathy will abound. The air will be thick with secrets – some coming to light, others merely hints and whispers and hushes. Trust your guidance system. Keep it clean, charged and plugged in, and banish all those little green men from under your bed, the closet and your house.  Info is yours for the having.

2013 Pisces Full Moon

September 19, 2013
4:13 AM PDT / 7:13 AM EDT / 11:13 AM GMT
26 Pisces 40 / 26 Virgo 40

by Kathy Biehl

Merging; feeling; purging; healing: Those are the potentials of this month’s Pisces Full Moon.

It’s a summation point for the analytical bent that has steered the month. We’ve been (or have had the opportunity to be) uncommonly detached and discriminating while surveying and considering all the jolts and shifts the summer birthed. Spock Vision can take us humans only so far, though. At some point — as in: now — the feelings that review has stirred have to find release.

This Full Moon is an all-consuming, all-encompassing event, dripping with emotions to the max.  It invites out to wring out what’s been welling up (heavy tear advisory), some of which we’ve probably also been soaking up. It reminds us of how interconnected we are with each other and all of life, and also of how advisable strong, firm boundaries are. It encourages letting yourself off the hook, treating yourself with more of that kindness and compassion you grant to others and dropping the mindset that you are responsible for other people’s thoughts, actions, issues, pain….you name it.

In other words, this is a powerhouse event.

Let as much flow as you dare, and then some. The year has been high on stress, drama, trauma, disruptions, volatility and whiplash-inducing change. Consider this a time to flush out your system and reconsider what you will allow in.

The rulers of this event are both supporting this approach. The Moon’s ruler Neptune, ruler of transcendent experiences (i.e. anything but grounded) is still traveling with Chiron, which embodies the challenge of embracing core wounds to master the physicality of existence. The pair carries the prospect of healing the illusion of separation (How many of you feel isolated? Misunderstood?) and, paradoxically, the enmeshment that can come from sharing air and space with other beings. (We used to call that codependency).

A course correction may be in order, or, more likely, a tweak in your over-arching approach. And that may involve giving yourself credit for how far you’ve come. Neptune is making an out-of-sign adjustment aspect to the Sun and growth aspect to the Moon. Wallowing in the old muck isn’t possible. The waters are not stagnant. They’re stirring, and aerated, and set up to wash over and through and out of you. Think of it as a spa for your spirit.

And as for thinking:  it’s up for major overhaul as well. The Sun’s ruler Mercury, the messenger of the gods, is in the approach to a t-square with the cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto. The pressure caused by this configuration is bearing down on Pluto, overseer of fundamental, unavoidable change.

All that data you’ve been taking in is changing your frame of reference. Everything you’ve been through in the past two to three months, possibly longer, is reshaping your thinking, your attitudes, your approach, your unconscious, instinctive reactions, and your personal shortlist of priorities. (It’s growing shorter and shorter, isn’t it?)

You may find yourself saying goodbye to people, dreams, wishes, memories, ancient pains, slights and injuries. You may find yourself weeping over events that happened decades ago, or that involve people you don’t know, in other states or other parts of the planet.

Release is an enormous factor now — not merely the expression of emotions, but the letting go of ones you’ve been dragging around. Resentment, for example. You could simply, and surprisingly suddenly, get over demonizing certain people (including yourself) in the stories you treasure and retell about your life.

And you could let yourself off the hook, in so many ways. You could forgive yourself for the past, but also lighten your load for the future. The way to do that is not merely through healthy boundaries, the gift of the Virgo end of this Full Moon, but also by changing your thinking about being responsible for other people.

Each of us is undergoing an intense and fundamental restructuring of our lives, for the rest of this year and, sorry to say, long beyond. Each of us has more than enough to do handling that without draining energy, focus and time on other people’s processes. Yes, you can care. Yes, you can be concerned. But you don’t have to treat other people as personal improvement projects. In fact, you don’t have to carry or solve or even worry about other people’s problems. Those behaviors are doing a disservice to your objects of concern and probably interfering with their ability to run their own lives.

So back off.  Mind your own business, trust others to take care of their own, and either you’ll end up with greater reciprocity (sick of doing most of the work in a relationship?) or you’ll find allegiances changing. Focus on yourself. Feel your pain. Let go of your pain. Release the pain and more that you’ve picked up from everyone around you.  (Here’s a free tool that will help.) Ease up on yourself. There’s enough pressure in this ongoing evolutionary process without you adding to it. Drop worrying about what other people think or what they’re doing. Look for signs of grace in your life. Look for signs of the divine in the people around you.

As I said:  a powerhouse event.

Forecast for September 16-22, 2013

This is a milestone week.  Long-pending developments are falling into place, internally and externally. We’re in for awakening, action, commitment, emotional healing, and construction milestones in the reworking of our foundations. It’s as if we’re hurrying up to get a new regime in place before the Fall Equinox on Sunday. And also as if destiny is behind it all — which even nonbelievers will be suspecting, out loud.

Several planets make major journeys this week. The one that grounds it all is Saturn, ruler of order. He signals that it’s time for concepts to come down into reality, then sprinkles the week with opportunities to do so. He sounds the cosmic alarm clock when he meets with the North Node of destiny on Monday, imposing responsibilities, announcing ramifications and consequences, and requiring us to commit to our most precious shared resources and use them wisely. Rearranging the playing field to fit follows next, as he and Pluto, lord of death and rebirth, move into a beneficial sextile, which is exact on Saturday.

Against this backdrop, the week launches with a new viewpoint fresh on our minds and soon brings an opening to act on it, as cosmic communicator Mercury stares down radical change agent Uranus (Monday) and then links with action hero Mars (Tuesday).

Hearts, desires and values come to the fore by Wednesday, when their ruler Venus encourages big-time, fated commitment — and accepting a passionate desire moving from something we want into something we have. She’s firming up a connection that is powerful and future-oriented, by meeting with structure-loving Saturn and the North Node. She’s also reaching out to Pluto, her primal, beyond-mortal-comprehension counterpart as far as desires and money go. Itches demand scratching and magnets turn into tractor beams when these two cooperate. That natural tendency goes exponential with her currently in Pluto’s home sign of Scorpio. This collaboration promises steamy, irresistible and not at all rational developments, but they should also be stabilizing, what with Saturn as chaperone, who should minimize the forbidden fruit danger that is typical when Venus and Pluto connect.

There’s an overriding sense that much is falling into place, and some of it quite nicely, too. Thursday’s Pisces Full Moon enhances that with the possibility of healing emotional wounds (especially baggage we have carried for others) and the illusion of separation. This Moon is a status report on how you feel about all the data you’ve been collecting and assessing all month.  With Jupiter pumping up Mercury, the event will not be quiet. Minds will be racing and expanding, and conversations flying to keep up. (Read more in my mooncast, which will be on the site by Wednesday.)

As solid as developments are feeling, finally, don’t confuse their current state with permanence. Tweaks and choices are on tap — what is it that you really want? — as we settle into all this settling in. On Thursday, Venus makes an adjustment aspect to awakener Uranus and throws a new possibility at us.  She also has an open current to Chiron, embodiment of our abiding wounds, so the moment of choice is tinged with forgiveness and balm to the heart.

The path is also vibrating with distant rumblings of more change to come as Pluto turns stationary direct. Undercurrents that have been roiling since mid-April are beginning their ascent to the surface; hidden impulses are coming out into the open.

They’re part of the weekend’s construction milestone. The opportunity is finally here to see major, noticeable progress in responding to all the recent upheaval. We’ve been in a near-constant state of addressing, repairing and remodeling the foundation of our lives. Now the tools appear, the workers appear, the puzzle pieces shift, and the ground we tread takes new form, or shape, or substance.

Or maybe we simply become aware of change that has already occurred. Saturn and Pluto have been energetically connected all year, because each is in the other’s sign (a condition called mutual reception). Now they are formally working together to facilitate restructuring of all manner of foundations and institutions, long term security, rules and responsibilities in sharing, joint resources, trust, and reciprocity.

It’s a new framework for everything, and the most immediate area it will be seen is relationships.  The Autumn Equinox, on Sunday, coincides with the Sun’s move into Libra, the sign of relationships, fairness and agreements. We enter the fall primed for deeper connecting, deeper sharing and greater stakes.

Forecast for week of September 9-15, 2013

Assessing and getting clarity are giving way to strategies, implementation and spur-of-the-moment leaps. This week talk turns lyrical. We push against the walls of the known universe. Desires heat up. Hard, simplifying truths arrive. Then we zoom (or are catapulted) into a liberating, self-actualizing direction.

A new and multilayered mode of communicating and relating provides the backdrop, which comes from two planets changing signs. On Monday, cosmic messenger Mercury enters Libra, relationship central, where he weaves awareness of others into our thoughts and words. He encourages well-turned phrases, poetic gestures, an appreciation of harmony and visual beauty, and discourse on fairness and social justice.  On Wednesday, the doyenne of Libra, Venus, moves into down and dirty Scorpio, where her niceties dissolve in primal passions, desires and impulses.

Beautiful words with potent forces churning beneath them mean that undercurrents will be powerful. Mercury and Venus in these two signs operate like the subtitled scene in Annie Hall, without the self-doubt and deprication and heavy on mental undressing and more.

The week’s action starts on Monday with Mars, ruler of our drive and energy, testing Saturn, the cosmic brake.  We hit a wall — rules, an obligation, an institution, authority or force with greater power or resources — and we kick it. We demand our fair share (probably more than we ordinarily claim; look up “lion’s share”) from an investment of time, money or energy.  We may not see immediate progress, but the mere impact builds up pressure and momentum that will find release by the weekend.

Saturday melds true love (not Hollywood-style) with rare honesty and daring action.  This does not necessarily mean a romantic relationship falling into place, but does indicate all manner of self-aware, courageous leaps of faith. Venus, goddess of love and all we value, teams with Neptune, font of higher love, to bless interactions with compassion and a rare sensation of communion. Her mouthpiece Mercury makes a forceful link with Pluto, lord of the shadows, that delivers hard truths, shines a light on lies and bogeymen and strips away baggage.

With hearts open and minds clear and focused, breakthrough occurs. Action god Mars makes an easy link to the awakening genius of Uranus, agent of radical, sudden, unforeseeable change.  The link turbocharges our drive and tosses accelerant into our inner fire.  Outside of us, wild cards are on the loose. Locks break; walls fall; situations flip in an instant.

This is the moment of implementation/actualization for whatever mid-August birthed in or for you: a concept, a decision, a relationship, a business, a revision of yourself.  Now it moves forward with alacrity, not only learning to crawl, but to leap.

2013 Virgo New Moon

September 5, 2013
4:36 AM PDT / 7:36 AM EDT / 11:38 AM GMT
13 Virgo 04

The Virgo New Moon is the ideal clean-up influence to follow the last two months. It puts detached observation, clear thinking, logical analysis and a bent for betterment and efficiency into an environment that is ripe for improvement and healing.

Sound like any situations in your life?

Yet this Moon’s potential is not necessarily cold or clinical.  Its scrub-it-till-it-sparkles drive has access to tender loving care, a boundless supply of bandages and kisses for those booboos, and maybe some cream-filled doughnuts, too.

The primary characteristic, and the first we’ll feel, is the mental orientation. The Moon is near the middle of the sign, within reach of its ruler Mercury, the cosmic messenger and lord of gab, gadgets and getting around. Not only is he participating directly in the New Moon, but he is also chatting with the Moon on either side of the event. The Moon contacts Mercury on the way in and out of her meeting with the Sun (first by declination, then by zodiacal degree).

The upshot is an ability to take a more dispassionate view than the past few months have allowed. Think of it as a dose of Spock vision — the detached, quizzical and at times bemused attitude of Star Trek’s Mr. Spock. His stock response was “fascinating.” Adopt it for the next couple of weeks as you sort through recent developments and encounter new ones. Apply it and see if that doesn’t provide a distance that helps you see clearly, process the information and then strategize a response.

You may get a different and helpful viewpoint on your own pain and troubles. The Moon’s objectivity is wired for addressing the summer’s traumas and the longstanding wounds that they agitated. The New Moon is across the sky from Chiron, the dwarf planet that embodies our abiding wound and the challenge of mastering it. Transiting Chiron (in the sky now, as opposed to in a birth chart) represents an area where healing is possible. This Moon fosters the ability to see where and what the wound is and, just as importantly, what can be done about it.

The prospect is good for feeling better soon, or at least feeling optimistic. The New Moon is in a beneficial link to the beneficial planet, Jupiter, in the sign of nurturing and mothering. This link puts kindness, gentleness and care-taking into the Virgo process. It increases the chance of seeing the personal good in developments and framing your ongoing analysis with the question, “How could this be better?”

It may awaken longing for milk and cookies and the simplicity of childhood. We may work on how to regain some of the sweetness and simplicity we remember. This Moon may well send a lot of us into the refuge of food as currency for love (some of which we may fix for others, and some of which we may snack on for ourselves.) And if what you observe pierces your Spock vision to the point of making you weep, the tears will be curative and cleansing.
