2015 Scorpio Full Moon

May 3-4, 2015

8:42 PM PDT / 11:42 PM EDT / 3:42 AM GMT

13 Taurus 22 / 13 Scorpio 22

May’s Scorpio Full Moon continues the clean-up work we’ve been facing after the rockiness of March and April.  The intensity and irrationality of the emotional purging may feel like an eclipse, but don’t be fooled. Eclipse season is over until the fall. This Moon is simply shining light even more deeply than it has gone so far this year.

This moon’s polarity always stirs issues of give and take (usually out of whack, and never in your direction, it seems), trust and betrayal, investments and return, cold hard cash, and all kinds of other issues we don’t normally trot out into polite society.  They can’t stay in hiding now. Too much is dragging them out for airing now.

The Sun and the Moon are in close, direct contact to Pluto, ruler of Scorpio and all those aforementioned issues, as well as matters, impulses and influences outside — or below — the normal scope of mortal existence. He’s bearing down on the tender spot that got worked over in March and April, where the last battle in a three-year life-altering struggle took place. The clash permanently reshaped the foundations of our lives (and many a relationship). We’re still feeling emotional shockwaves and, more importantly, still experiencing the emergence of startling little monsters we had no idea were within, crawling out of our very cells.

Watch for more of them to crawl out now. The days before the Full Moon are enticing them, thanks to a passel of uncomfortable, anxiety-provoking aspects pitting Mercury and Mars against the outer planets. Don’t stifle. Let the beasties surface. It’s time for them to come out, so the new foundations can settle without their undermining interference. No matter how scary them might seem, no matter how uncomfortable their emergence might be (and it could affect your physical body), they’ll lose their power in the light and possibly shrivel away.

Some of them point to a need for validation, acknowledgement, recognition or outlets for self-expression. The Sun and the Moon are making a T-square to Jupiter, a dynamic configuration that demands movement. Our rational and emotional sides are pressuring the inner child and our inherent need to shine and matter.  The pressure will push some into making a scene (Leo is one for drama and the spotlight), while others will respond by moving more fully into self-expression and generosity of spirit.  For them, the pressure will act as a bellows causing their inner light to expand its size and reach and shine bigger and brighter. For all, the ultimate release lies in expressing individual uniqueness.

The discomfort that so many of us have with being ourselves — with it being acceptable to be ourselves — will translate into overcompensation now. Remember that if you observe an outburst that seems out of proportion to the surface trigger. People are phenomenally sensitive to not getting their due. If someone reads evil motives into innocent behavior, likely they feel that are not receiving an appropriate and meaningful return on their investment in the situation. It could be financial; it could be emotional; it could be energetic. It could be a reaction to something that happened years ago, likely not involving the same people as whatever is happening now. It could be paranoid and outright nuts, to anyone but the person making the outburst.

Although not necessarily. The person doing the venting may well suspect that something is out of kilter. It’s easy not to be sure of much of anything right now, thanks to the square Saturn is making to Neptune. Saturn rules structure, and Neptune is absolute formlessness. Saturn is in the sign of our world view, and Neptune in his home base of transcendence. Their pressure will abate during the summer, then return and peak in the fall. For now, they raise the ongoing question of what is reality and what is an illusion.

Use this weird mix of energies to your benefit. Actively look for evidence of rot, decay or unhealthiness that you would benefit from addressing. If you’re overdue for a meltdown, go privately nuts. Let your inner child pour out her darkest, most irrational fears. Listen to them. For one thing, it’ll help Adult You to get them out of your system; for another, they may indicate where reciprocity is out of balance for you.

As for what you observe coming out of others: Looking at this weekend as Halloween in May will keep it in perspective.  Ghouls and goblins may be on the prowl. Tread lightly and kindly. If what you see sets you off, consider whether — or rather, why — it is reverberating in you. Open that baggage up. Clean it out and leave it at the curb. You’re creating space for your light to expand — and for soothing, healing emotions to rush in later in the month. Tackle the beasties. Face those fears. Purge, baby, purge.

Speaking of reciprocity: Keep Astro-Insight going by showing your appreciation. Even $1 makes a difference. In fact, recent stats made me realize that if the people who download my podcast from only ONE of the hosting sites contributed $1 a month, that would cover my entire office overhead. Forecast for May 2015

May is a month of emotional immersion and mental diversion. We’ll be exploring the extremes of both, sometimes pinging back and forth between them, sometimes finding ourselves in both at once. The peculiar mix sends us, by month’s end, into a spa for the soul, where the waters pour out love and acceptance of the self.

No matter how dark the first days may feel, remember that a therapeutic process is at work. Unpleasant thoughts, fears and impulses fly through minds and out of mouths during the long weekend that launches the month. The Scorpio Full Moon (on the 2nd) is normally a trigger for the darker side of emotional experiences. This year’s model comes with a jumble of uncomfortable influences that produce frustration, roadblocks, resistance, more inner growth (great, right?) and all manner of emotional backwash coming off the last two months.

A personality disintegration may be in store for some of us. If one happens in front of (or to) you, let it flow out, even if it scares you. Putting up a front and soldiering on has been exhausting; falling apart, or acting like a squalling infant, or simply admitting to yourself how you feel all lead to relief and a huge personal growth spurt, and sooner than you might dare hope.

Once the moon and its aftermath are behind us, the rest of the month is a blend of water and air, emotions and intellect, focus on nurturing and multitasking like demons. Social interactions take on a clucking, nesting, “let me feed you” tint as Venus, ruler of relationships, money and creativity, moves into home-loving Cancer on the 7th.  Don’t be fooled by the apron, though. While she’s baking cookies, fluffing pillows and kissing boo-boos, she’s looking at the long haul (including in cold financial terms) and waiting for the tables to turn and someone to take care of her.

Ambivalence kicks in quickly, though, with her armored knight Mars lifting off into Gemini on the 11th. Part of us wants to stay in the kitchen licking the beaters, while another part wants to go outside and play with pals. Energy lightens and speeds up; our drive and motivation zoom this way and that, chasing after information in conversations and online, running errands with abandon, and juggling more tasks in a day than we had the inclination to deal with in a week during the winter.

Mars hits turbulence in his first few days chasing bright shiny objects. Power struggles and another round of less than rational impulses are probable mid-month, cresting in a roadblock that encourages retreat and rethinking. The solution, however, lies outside the brain. Higher guidance,  an act of faith, intervention bordering on angelic, maybe even magic all abound when Venus makes a lovely, flowing link to Neptune on the 16th. That’s a red letter day as well for artistry and relationships. Enjoy, however briefly, the sensation of heaven on earth.

Still, the Kumbaya moment has an underlying nervousness, pushing people to action and risk taking. That energy is the opposite of what the Taurus New Moon is calling for on the 17th. Watch for more of more of that atmospheric ambivalence. The earthiest of moons weighs in with Venus in the kitchen and has us all reaching for our particular brand of comfort food and sharing it with others. Our minds, in contrast, are not only zipping around with Mars but gearing up to travel through time and space.

That’s due to Mercury stationing for his next retrograde, which begins on May 18, the day after the New Moon, and continues through June 11. During this stretch, communication and transportation requires (or demands) particular attention. Because Mercury is in his home sign of Gemini, which rules gab, getting around and gadgets, the very aspects of life prone to going flooey, this retrograde is likely to be more active, snarled and every which way than most.

Go into this retrograde with eyes wide open. Double check information; allow extra time when traveling; look for dropped threads and unfinished business. (Read more in my guide Handling a Mercury Retrograde.) It’s not all crazy-making, however. This one promises to be hugely productive and clarifying by the end of the month.

The desire to run free gets another boost when the Sun begins its annual trip through Gemini on May 20. Not so fast, though. His journey begins with a tractor beam pulling at our cells, as desire and money planets Venus and Pluto have a standoff that makes a craving feel oh so out of reach. (Which, of course, makes it oh so much more appealing.)

The standoff gives way to major rocking and rolling the last week of the month. Light bulbs pop; lightning bolts rain down; attitudes shift and break and with them all manner of stalemates and unforeseen openings. “Illusion vs. Reality” is a theme, and we’ll either be clearing up clouds of confusion/delusion/deceit or finding ourselves engulfed in them. Love may well win out, in the truest sense: not as in a Lifetime movie, but in its purest essence:  forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, grace.  Many a longstanding wound will find comfort and balm. The place of greatest healing is internal, as usual. You could make peace with yourself, with being on this planet in a human existence and, possibly, even with God.

Any semblance of being at war with yourself is gone by the 27th, when retrograde Mercury meets up with Mars. This fusion is more than a signal to walk your talk. Mind and will are so at one that thought leads immediate to action. Stumble on to information, as you will no doubt because of the retrograde process, and you aren’t likely to mull it over. You’ll be off and running.

The path ahead isn’t flat and manicured. It has holes that could trip you, and bits of rotting wood and maybe evidence of vermin. (Maybe vermin in the flesh as well.) Weird metaphoric fog could make you feel as if you’re making your way through a dream. Keep going. By the 30th, the journey brings you heightened awareness of yourself. Hang tight to that when more fog rolls in on the 31st. You have what it takes to navigate.

2015 Aries New Moon

April 18, 2015
11:56 AM PDT / 2:56 PM EDT / 6:56 PM GMT
28 Aries 25

With the Aries New Moon, a spark is catching fire in each one of us. No matter how rocky the past six weeks have been, energy, motivation and just plain rambunctiousness are surging now.

No more hiding. No more wondering when, or whether, this most tenacious winter will finally be over. No more waiting for the ground to crack under you yet again, or for another shoe to fall, smack onto your head.  It’s time to make like Fred Astaire singing to Ginger Rogers:  “Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and start all over again.”

No one’s likely to go about this tentatively. Life force is roaring into full-throttle impulses, actions and reactions. The fuel will be all over the map:  Anger. Frustration. Excitement. Adventure. Passion. Relief at seeing an opening, finally, and charging for it.

Forethought factors little in this frenzy. We’re in for an epidemic of leaping without looking. Take care where your attention is going, because that’s where you’re heading.

Look backward if you must, but only to address, clean up and restructure situations so you can get on with the next big phase. Those tasks have demanded plenty of attention the past six weeks, as a three-year process of remodeling the foundations of our lives hit a point of no return. We’ve been in a gateway this month, a space between structures that have collapsed and new, more supportive ones that are already in place (though we might not yet see or trust them). This New Moon takes us out of the gateway and onto those replacement structures — at times kicking and screaming, at others running and leaping, and sometimes hollering, “Yeehaw!”

Sitting still is not much of an option. (Do you really want to, at this point?) The Moon’s ruler Mars, the god of action and war, is making an easy link to the other cosmic commander of power and aggression, Pluto, lord of the underworld and all that lurks outside of human consciousness and will. With them at work, good luck staying stuck.

Their teamwork is summoning — or drawing on — impulses from deep within our cells and psyches. They prompt bold action without weighing the risks. Some of this could be dramatic to an extreme  — running into a burning building, overthrowing a several-ton car to free a trapped baby, striking back at a physical attacker.

Super powers could emerge in other ways, without overtly resembling an action movie. The Mars/Pluto kick gives the backbone — the sense of having no other option, actually — to tackle situations that scare the you-know-what out of you. It supplies the nerve to deal with lingering aspects of all that structural reworking that’s been going on. You could finally give notice to an abusive employer. Make that career change that’s been nagging at you. Launch the business you’ve been creating in your mind. Unplug dead relationships from life support. File for divorce or go after back child support. Schedule the doctor appointment you’ve been avoiding, or bring in a contractor for long-needed home repair. Revamp your finances, face your debt and come up with a plan for paying it down. Kill off tolerations once and for all.

You might be on the receiving end of some of this, as well, but you’ll have the gumption to respond. Mars/Pluto bring out a ferocity that can be unnerving and does not fit comfortably in polite society.

Psychological beasties will be on the prowl. You’ll see them in other people’s behavior and experience them in yourself, too. Core issues may surface that you had no idea were in you, even after everything you’ve been confronting the last few years. These are lower-level beasties, which likely been lurking, growing and steering your ship from deep within your cells, possibly predating your ability to think or speak. Emergence could actually be physically unpleasant.

Don’t fight it; don’t try to shove the beasties back into hiding. You have what it takes to face whatever bubbles up and change it to your benefit. Doing this may feel, at its worst, as if you are cleaning out a failed root canal. You’ve got the incentive, bravery and drive to get it over with. The process will be empowering and beneficial, more quickly than you might hope going into it. You’ll have more space for all that fire to fill. And off you’ll go.

2015 Libra Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

April 4, 2015

5:05 AM PDT / 8:05 AM EDT / 12:05 PM GMT

14 Aries 24 / 14 Libra 24

The theme for this month’s Libra Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is a line from a Crosby, Stills & Nash song: “It’s been a long time coming.  It’s going to be a long time gone.”

Nothing that happens now is out of the blue, but ties back to the recent past, the last three years and possibly 1996 as well.  Nothing that ends, leaves or shape-shifts is going back to its previous form, either, although it may take till October for the new contours to settle in fully.

Understand how this is affecting you:  Book a budget-conscious 15 or 30 minute Eclipse Relief reading this Friday – Sunday. Slots are limited; get yours now!

We’re at a profoundly intense, life-changing juncture. It’s a moment of clarity, of catalyzing and of crystalizing. The structures on which we’ve lived have collapsed. The new ones are in place, or at least assembling, even if we don’t have the vantage point to see them yet. For now, there are  emotions to experience and express, information to process and, more importantly, act on, and long-simmering issues to address.

They’re big, all of them. Everything’s laden with baggage and history, and everywhere you look, people are hitting the breaking point.

This Full Moon is not merely an event, but a marker in a process, and arguably a process in itself. It feels larger than life because it’s a lunar eclipse, which takes the emotion, drama and culminating qualities of a Full Moon and ramps them up exponentially. This eclipse is even more super-sized than the norm, thanks to a cooperative link with Jupiter, the guy who ups the ante of any action he’s near. Jupiter’s more potent than his norm, too. He’s stationing to turn direct on the 8th, and his current lack of motion is intensifying the fire that will erupt next week in matters that have stalled since his retrograde began December 9.

He’s not the only one playing with this fire. Unpredictable Uranus is next to the Sun and reaching out to the Moon. He’s making emotions volatile and hot-headed while igniting recklessness, focus on the self, and a willingness to bolt. Torch bridges, even.

This eclipse is midway through the cycle that began in October last year, on the Aries/Libra relationship axis (Who Am I? versus Who Are You/Who Are We?). Any eclipse brings endings, consistent with the light being shut out, and plays out over months, rather than a single moon cycle. A lunar eclipse has the added quality of revelation, shedding light on information, or birthing realizations that change the game forever. We can expect an epidemic of impassioned emotions and revelations involving relationship dynamics and leading to change of chapter-ending proportions.

Yes, more change is in store, though the current round is a continuation of what’s already  in progress, instead of an outbreak of entirely new factors. This Full Moon is a direct follow-up to March’s smackdown between cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto, the last of seven clashes that have radically restructured our foundations over the past three years. Whatever is happening now, whatever is escalating and irritating and inflaming you, is demanding clean-up work on that remodeling process.

The Moon is locking into the change agents’ fight and creating the challenging configuration of a T-square. The seesaw between your need to feel connected and the drive for self-sufficiency is escalating the imperative to change how you have things restructured. The pressure is coaxing out all manner of beasties from our psyches, too. Primal terrors and utterly irrational emotions and fears are coming up for air, some you may be surprised — or disturbed — to discover are still around. Calming, dealing with or banishing them is part of the clean-up.

Relationships and agreements are the playing field, the target or the catalyst for the clean-up. They may involve money; they may involve friendships; they may involve romance or what you had assumed was a committed relationship. Dramas flaring now may have to do with ground rules, worth (yours, probably) or values.

Whatever form they are currently taking, you can put them in context by tracking them to recent history. The underlying issues or themes reared their head unmistakably at the end of December 2013, when action lord Mars crossed the Moon’s current location and triggered the two change agents. Your attitude shifted from resistance (or incredulity) to acceptance by last September, when the Sun and Venus occupied that degree. They encouraged not merely embracing that situations or dynamics were not going back to the old ways, but also recognizing how to work the new developments to your benefit.

For more detective work, think back April 1996, the last time an eclipse occurred at this degree.  There’s a parallel, but with a difference:  This time around, you have been through the core-level destabilizing and restructuring of the past three years. (Longer if you have a major placement early in a cardinal sign).  You are not the same person, at all.

Your motivations and decisions are vastly different now. Much has already cleared out, especially inside of you. Friendships have morphed; values, desires, goals and priorities have clarified; self-worth has received a workover and, likely, hit new levels and firm non-negotiables.

Keep all of this in your mind and in your heart as this eclipse peaks. Line them up against the plot twists, which are coming so suddenly you could get whiplash. You’ll know which lead to your future and which are amount to a goodbye.

Learn where this is heading later this year in my 2015 astro-overview.

Forecast for April 2015

Have the last few weeks been rocky? Challenging? Filled with breakdowns, disruptions and uncommonly weird events? Are you physically exhausted but not sleeping through the night?

Relief is a phone call away!

I am offering targeted Eclipse Relief readings by phone Friday-Sunday April 3-5, focusing on what the current astrological weather is setting off in your chart. Space is limited; reserve yours now!

April delivers a triple punch that signals a new season is here at last. The hits come in a cluster, rather than a distinct one-two-three, and we’ll be tingling with them all month long: Drastic clean-up work on the rockiness of last month and the preceding three years.  Stuck and dormant situations roaring back to life. Others bursting into new growth that goes from sprout to blossoming plant like sped-up time-lapse photography.

The clean-up work comes with escalating emotions, “Eureka!” moments, heart-changing disclosures, slamming doors and relationship shifts with no going back. All are byproducts of the Libra Full Moon on the 4th.  It’s a lunar eclipse, which always brings revelations and endings.  These tie directly to the relentless and radical reshaping of our foundations that cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto have been forcing since June 2012. Relationships and agreements that have been teetering have little chance of remaining standing now. The collapses, door slamming and chapter closings come with messages and realizations that bring finality, and an infusion of self-confidence that helps us ultimately see the personal benefit.

Even if you’re prepared, even if you’re philosophical and resolved, the month’s first eight days could be rocky. They’re putting us all through another round of profound evolution, which is deepening our knowledge of ourselves,  (not always gently or comfortably) and unlocking our minds and definitions of ourselves (ditto).

This growth spurt zooms us into a new level of personal clarity, just as Jupiter goes direct (on the 8th) and heats up situations that have been quiet since December 9.  Once the lord of beneficence begins moving forward, he’ll be powering up the life force of new and innovative developments that have been germinating since last fall. Watch for relationships, creative pursuits and just plain fun to catch fire and fill vacancies being left by the eclipse.

And fun is in fact on the agenda for a change. When Venus enters Gemini on the 11th, relationships take on a welcome light-heartedness. We’ll be inclined to hang out with pals, take refuge in amusing conversation (minus emotional charge, please) and let short attention spans run free.

Interactions become more purposeful after Mercury moves into Taurus on the 14th.  From then till the 27th, Venus and Mercury occupy each other’s home sign, a relationship called mutual reception, which intertwines their spheres of influence. As relationships, creativity, money and values commingle with our thoughts, talk, data flow and means of getting around, the old ad slogan “Reach out and touch someone” will take on a double meaning.

Pluto, the lord of unavoidable change, beings a five-month retrograde on the 16th, which will slowly, inexorably perform more deep level rot removal and cleaning in the platforms on which we’re building the next phase of our lives. His journey may involve weeding out phobias, irrational thinking and other pests that would otherwise threaten either the revived or sprouting situations coming forth now.

Pluto’s shift will be easy to miss in the flurry of activity around the Aries New Moon on the 18th. Amping up bold, self-starting impulses, it coincides with its ruler Mars encouraging daring, grandiose and downright reckless actions. A lot of those will involve or affect relationships. With the two rulers of love, Venus and Neptune, squaring off, we could be forced to act compassionately, or be taken in by romanticism or delusions of the heart.

Odds are we’ll quickly know which is occurring. The last 10 days of the month, the noise level increases, encouraging talk and collecting data, targeting our actions and landing on important and empowering information, realizations and decisions.  Doorways are opening that invite letting desire blossom to indulgent extremes. Take care what you want. You’re more likely to make a split-second decision and leap through a doorway, rather than stand and consider and then walk through it.

Split-second has its benefits, of course. Time to think isn’t part of the equation of the relationship breakthroughs on offer as Venus contacts Uranus. Unexpected upgrade is the theme, whether the form is a friendship flipping into romance or a financial/job-related opening out of seemingly nowhere. Regardless of form, it’s an outgrowth of the Uranus/Pluto restructuring process, the Libra lunar eclipse, and Jupiter pouring flame accelerant on inner, creative and romantic fires.  It’s payoff. It comes with the sensation of long-standing wounds to our heart and self-image healing at last, with powerlessness, futility and beating up on ourselves fading into the past.

That’s a heady cocktail of catalytic change. The point and, more importantly, benefit of all that upheaval is becoming not just clear, but also tangible. It inspires going after life with joyous ferocity. Don’t hold back. Higher guidance is at your disposal; reach for it and you won’t go astray.  With Mercury taking off for his home base of Gemini on the 27th, there’ll be so many fascinating ideas and places and people to explore. Off you go.
