Forecast for September, 2015

September is a gateway. As it goes on, it will feel like the pivotal month of the year — though the enormity of its impact might not be immediately apparent.

Its 30 days bring a breathtaking pile-up of influences: wrapping up and moving on from the old business of the summer; two eclipses, which are energizing one cycle and bringing another to a close; the fall equinox, which carries the sky’s energies forward throughout the season; and everybody’s favorite astro-occurrence, Mercury retrograde. All this lands us in and awakens us to the situations, connections and structures growing out of the upheaval of the past three years. (Not that turmoil is dying back. We’ll be shoring up how we’re dealing with it, rather than feeling the ground collapse beneath us.)

image of blender, coffee grinder and nut grinder

The air of wrapping up and moving on dominates the first half of the month. The journey of the heart we’ve be on since mid-July is shifting gears, as Venus, ruler of all we value, ends her retrograde. She’s been taking us through a revisiting and rediscovery of people, places and things that were once dear, or still are, or newly are.  (Along the way, we’ve been picking up lost pieces of ourselves as well.) Massive realizations in this department meet motivation to do something about them on the first, when Venus joins with Mars, ruler of our drive and gumption.  This contact fuses the masculine and feminine in fixed fire, which bodes well for follow-through after she goes direct on the 6th.

We’re also ending cleaning up lingering agenda items from 2013-2014 that have been rearing their unwelcome, unpleasant little heads since the end of May. No matter what the surface form, all involve dirty, uncomfortable issues we don’t talk about easily or openly — joint finances, debt, taxes, reciprocity and return on investment, trust, intimacy, s-e-x. They’ve come back up thanks to Saturn, ruler of order, structure and the status quo, returning for one final pass through Scorpio, where he spent the past two calendar years.

This trigger for summer introspection says “See you in 30 years” to resource-focused Scorpio on the 17th and moves into Sagittarius for the next two years. His time there will press us to take responsibility for our world view and belief systems (and their ramifications), which will be a defining theme of the fall.

The month’s two eclipses add to the air of phases ending and shifting gear. The Virgo New Moon on the 12th/13th is a solar eclipse, starkly resetting issues of boundaries, health and service. With bigger-is-better Jupiter in his first full month in Virgo, both the clearing out and the propelling forward could be huge. (Read my article about what Jupiter in Virgo holds for all of us; order my talk and guides for each sign here.) Meanwhile, the relationship rewriting of the past 18 months hits a chapter close at the Aries Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on the 27th. This one underscores “I’m not tolerating that anymore” with “And I really mean it!” Neither eclipse is a one day event, remember, but instead will be rolling out over months.

In between the two eclipses Mercury goes retrograde, on the 17th, until the 9th of October. Mercury is the ruler of our information and transportation systems, which require extra attention when he is in retrograde motion. (Read my article about handling a Mercury retrograde.)

While it is true that misunderstandings will flourish, phones and computers will malfunction and traffic will jam, this particular retrograde holds actual useful potential in the midst of what else is occurring this month.  Mercury is in Libra, relationship central, inclining us to take others in account and talk with them, graciously and pleasingly, even.  The retrograde comes after we have assimilated the summer’s calibrating triggers and are operating under a newly honed approach to relationships (what we want, how we get it, what we put in, what we get out, etc.) It’s between eclipses that are rebooting boundaries and shutting down previous relationship agreements. And it starts the very day that Saturn, one of the summer review triggers, enters the sign of life philosophy and the higher mind.

The combined effect supersizes the possibilities of rethinking, readdressing, investigating and learning more about many many relationship developments. Seize opportunities to do that. Talk. Explore. Revisit. Ask questions you may have not had the nerve to pose before. Work with it. The approach will give you something more productive to do than scream at traffic jams and computers hanging up (though screaming has, admittedly, an appeal when Mercury retrograde becomes too much). Besides, we’re in different territory now, building different structures and different forms of relationships. They’re not looking, feeling or operating like their predecessors, so old assumptions don’t apply and will be counterproductive.  Get the lay of the land. Push past facades. Talk things out.

Forecast for August 31 – Sept. 6, 2015

Venus’ retrograde is coming to a close, and with it the revisiting and rediscovery we’ve been doing of people, places and things that were once dear. And some that still are. And some that newly are. Before she goes direct, Venus has a hot date with Mars that shows what you really want – and are willing to go after. Listen to their dance music.

Bursting into Flames: Following up on Astro-Politics: Trump’s on Fire

Turns out Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric is pouring gasoline on fires of fear and discontent and inciting violence. Rolling Stone nails where this is heading in this report.

Pair his machine-gun, shooting from the hip pronouncements with dictatorish pronouncements, a recklessness disregard for what the office of the president actually has the power to do, and a huge swath of society looking for a scapegoat, and I’m seeing newsreels from 1930s Europe.

Following up on Astro-Politics: Trump’s on Fire

Last week I posted an analysis of Donald Trump’s chart predicting that fire was coming to a head for him at the Leo New Moon August 14.

“I’m still waiting,” I’m hearing. Yes, he has not spontaneously combusted. Yet.

A few things to note:

  1. A New Moon cycle affects 30 days. Something has been lit, even if we aren’t seeing it yet.
  2. The press reported, at the New Moon, that he’s been called for jury duty.
  3. I predicted clarity to come:  “Expect the ramifications to become ever clearer in September, when Venus and Saturn go direct and ultimately change signs. By November Saturn crosses Trump’s Lilith. I don’t normally pay attention to Lilith, but mention her now because as Adam’s first wife, she does represent the scorned, devalued woman. There will be consequences.”

Forecast for the 2015 Leo New Moon

August 14, 2015
7:53 AM PDT / 10:53 AM EDT / 2:53 PM GMT
21 Leo 30

Impulses that have been smoldering all summer catch fire with August’s Leo New Moon. The event takes influences from two overlapping cycles, rolls them into a fireball and hurtles them — and us — forward.

Under normal circumstances, the Leo Moon gives a boost to our egos, playfulness and need for recognition and attention. This time around, the Moon is not merely priming our inner spark. It is     pouring desire and willpower into that spark and catalyzing dramatic developments.

sparkler-677774_1280

The catalyst angle comes from the New Moon’s tight, easy flow to Uranus, cosmic agent provocateur. Pressures and impulses from the last three years, and from the end of June in particular, are catching fire. (Again.) This link imbues the New Moon with the radically liberating, individuating end of the change imperative that has rocked the foundations of our lives since 2012, as the unforeseeable and perspective-altering (Uranus) clashed with the unavoidable and transformational (Pluto).

This summer is taking us through a corridor between constant upheaval and the new platforms to come this fall. With this Moon, we’re hitting a section with tripwires, that will break us from remaining tendrils of the past and shoot us more and more toward our individual, distinct path.  The tripwires were set at the end of June (the exact date was the 27th, but the days on either side could also play a role). That’s when Jupiter warmed up the spot now being occupied by the Sun, Moon and Venus.

All of them are in an open flow with unpredictable, mind-blowing Uranus, which will continue for the Sun and Venus into next week. A spark from in late June will catch fire now. (The ends of last March and September may fuel the story line, too.)  The traveling flame will hit the end of the fuse and set off the dynamite. The next stage of the saga will erupt. Another shoe or five will fall. Another can of spinach will appear — a case of it, more likely — and send us into action, fast, furious and double-time.

That’s the first cycle pouring into this New Moon. The second involves the Moon’s desire and willpower combo. That comes from the New Moon’s planetary honor guard: Venus, ruler of all we desire and value (love, money, beauty, creativity), which has just crossed over the Moon and the Sun, and Mars, ruler of our drive, which is just inside the doorway to Leo. Venus is infusing the New Moon with what she wants (which is to say, what we want). Mars is gearing up to go after what she wants, in a high energy, compatible and ever so dramatic way. (Results are likely around September 1, when the cosmic lovers have a hot date.)

Recent events are molding that desire and willpower combo — what Venus is telling the Moon she wants, and the follow through to come from Mars. Some of those requests reflect experiences, realizations and changes of heart since July 25, when Venus began her current retrograde. She’s been taking us on a journey of self-rediscovery, through memories and reminders of — and contact with — people, places and things that were once important to us. Old friends, old loves, old jobs, old pastimes, old hangouts, old music, old haunts from childhood and teenage years — look at what has floated back onto your radar and into your life lately. Some have been welcome, some have been surprises, and all have brought back a taste of the way we were.

The visitations have turned up parts of yourself, maybe to remind you of how you once experienced life, maybe to come back in for reincorporating in some way. (The most beautiful example I’ve encountered is a friend going back to a secluded spot on a high school campus, where he used to sit and clear his mind before going onstage, and experiencing the same sensation of quiet and centering he had decades ago.)

All this information fuels the New Moon. There’s more to come, of course, as Venus continues her retrograde through the first weekend in September. For now, though, we have plenty to go on. We have an updated version of what we want. (Still in progress, sure, but the punch list is workable in its current state.) We have growing drive and motivation to go after it. With Uranus in the mix, who can say exactly where or how this New Moon will send us.

Triggers are coming at unexpected times, from unexpected sources, in unexpected ways. They’re firing in us and around us. They’re catapulting us further from the rubble of the past three years and toward the next stage in rebuilding our foundation. They’re awakening us to situations that invalidate us or interfere with our shining, and inspiring-to-infuriating us to head elsewhere. Another round of booster rockets are going off, dropping away, and sending our own little capsules further and further into the next adventure.

To work with this energy: Think about, then write down intentions for this phase. Specifically address either or both of the two cycles if you like (the past three years, particularly leading to the end of June, and the Venus retrograde this summer). Add fire to what you’ve written. Fold the paper and place it under a lit candle, or set fire to the paper.

Astro-Politics: Trump’s on Fire

IMG_2Anyone noticed how rash, angry, outrageous and inescapable Donald Trump has been this summer? It’s been hard to miss, right? There’s an astrological reason for it. Actually, maybe five. And some of it is coming to a head, big time, at the Leo New Moon August 14.

First, the build-up:  (1) Radical, rebellious Uranus in shoot-first, aim-later Aries is in an open flow to Trump’s Sagittarius Moon. (View his birth chart at Astrodatabank.) That Moon placement is prone to foot in mouth disease by itself; with the Uranian contact any semblance of controls has shattered and a loose cannon has been unleashed, reckless, combative, unrepentant.  That’s been pumped up to extremes by Jupiter in Leo, traveling through Trump’s 12th house, the house of self-undoing and what I call “the back of the head,” the part of the self that is hidden to the conscious personality. The pumping up hit new heights at the end of June, when Jupiter trined Uranus. Since then Uranus has come within a degree of trining Trump’s Moon — think of that as going to the brink of the boiling point without quite reaching it. It’s making him a human Molotov cocktail, uncontrollable to the powers that be (cowering over in Pluto in status-quo Capricorn).

(2) Add to this the activity around Trump’s Leo ascendant. If the birth time at Astrodatabank is correct, Trump has 29 Leo rising, the very last degree of the sign of the king, right on top of Regulus, the fixed star of royalty. This translates into a showy personality and larger-than-life sense of self and entitlement. Two important transits have been whipping that up:  (a) a square from Saturn retrograding in Scorpio, all summer long, in Trump’s 4th house of home and security, which has been dredging up fears and beasties (one case in point: the immigration rhetoric) and (b) Venus retrograding in Leo, back into his 12th house of the unconscious and self-undoing, and squaring that Saturn in Scorpio (see, e.g.,  the inflammatory comments about women).

All this activity is going to escalate in the next two weeks. A fire storm is in store for Trump at the Leo New Moon on August 14, which will form a grand trine in fire with his Sag Moon and transiting Uranus. This is igniting within him and fueling public displays that may top any we have seen yet. Retrograde Venus is right next to the Sun and Moon, which adds to the mix issues of the subconscious, self-undoing, women, money and values. On Saturday the 15th, Venus and the Sun meet at the spot Jupiter occupied when he made his last exact trine to Uranus at the end of June, so expect something from that time to re-ignite. Between August 19 and 21, Venus contacts Uranus in two effortless ways (trine and parallel), which promises more fireworks, surprises and sudden changes.

Sounds like a formula for spontaneous human combustion. Or self-immolation.

Expect the ramifications to become ever clearer in September, when Venus and Saturn go direct and ultimately change signs. By November Saturn crosses Trump’s Lilith. I don’t normally pay attention to Lilith, but mention her now because as Adam’s first wife, she does represent the scorned, devalued woman. There will be consequences.

For Venus Retrograde in Leo (Squaring Saturn in Scorpio)

The film “Woman in Gold” is renewing attention to Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. At his death a work in progress in his studio revealed a secret worthy of the current square between Venus retrograde in showy Leo and Saturn in sexy Scorpio:  He painted women in great, nigh on pornographic anatomical detail, then covered their bodies with the lush ornamentation that characterizes his style. (No indication that he did this for portraits, btw). Here’s the canvas that blew his cover, The Bride (from the Klimt Gallery):

Danger, Will Robinson! A fog advisory is in effect all week. Of course this is when we’re all wielding jackhammers. Driving Maseratis and backhoes (or one as if it were the other).  Setting off tempers and levers and depth charges, consciously or not. Proceed with caution.  The roads will be nuts.
