Forecast for the 2017 Aries Full Moon

October 5, 2017
11:40 AM PDT / 2:40 PM EDT / 6:40 PM GMT
12 Aries 42 / 12 Libra 42

This year’s Aries Full Moon delivers a paradoxical blend of hot-headed emotions and sober calculation.

The pairing may be unusual, but it’s just the trick to dispel the confusion and overload of recent months.

Sleepwalking, avoidance, stasis, immobility — none are possible now. Constraints are exploding and we’re acting and reacting, with cosmic clipboard in hand. And maybe a shovel.

Please follow my main site, EmpowermentUnlimited.net.

A Full Moon always brings situations and emotions to a head. Aries’ harvest is impulsive and impassioned, throwing caution (and sometimes social niceties) to the wind. Relationship issues are always in the mix, with the Sun opposite in the sign that rules them, Libra.

An Aries Full Moon lights up (and sometimes inflames) balancing the individual against the partner, or the union. This time the balancing act involves uncharacteristic texture and nuance, thanks to the cosmic triple punch that accompanies it.

First, the Moon’s ruler, Mars, is in an uncommonly restrained mode, thinking with his head instead of with his fists. He’s not only in the cerebral, detail-oriented sign of Virgo, but he is also conjunct his cosmic counterpart, Venus.

Both are coming off a clarifying, simplifying trine to Pluto, which summoned psycho-demons, survival instincts and bouts of cutting priorities down to essentials.

Stripped down, purified and raw, the ruler of our drive and sexuality is fusing with the ruler of our desires, relationships and values, in a mode of intactness and cleanliness. Our emotional and rational sides may be facing off in the Full Moon, but the masculine and feminine archetypes are on the same page (another paradox!), both approaching their domains with discrimination, a willingness to clean them up and an eye to improvement.

The blending may cool Mars’ hot-headed, gung-ho tendencies, so that he’s more determined and pragmatic than pugilistic. It may also tone down the Full Moon’s fieriness. This bodes well for going into (or starting) an emotional bonfire knowing it’s for the best. Also for rebounding from pyrotechnics with cleaning supplies and an action plan. And maybe a shovel.

The second factor is the relief and exhilaration of recently acquired freedom. While not in aspect to the Full Moon, unpredictable change agent Uranus is in the Moon’s sign, and only last week gained release from a long-standing, long-building opposition from Jupiter in Libra.

Their tension has been challenging relationships to accommodate increasingly idiosyncratic individual expression. As our own drum has become more insistent, connections have either followed or applauded the beat, or dropped away.

Look for this Full Moon to light up reactions to this tension giving way. Here’s a shortlist: Awareness of breathing room; being well and truly done with situations that muffle or trip up your beat; choosing healthy dynamics with intact boundaries; and coming away with a sensible game plan for getting what you want

Any of those reactions comes with an undeniable urge to continue reshaping the foundations of your life and connections. That’s from the third factor injecting this Full Moon with uncommon textures and nuance: the Sun and the Moon making a t-square to Pluto in Capricorn.

This configuration provides an avenue for expression and release of the standoff between reason (the Sun) and emotion (the Moon), between other people (Libra) and the self (Aries). Each extreme is bearing down on Pluto in Capricorn, the cosmic agent of unavoidable change, in the sign of our infrastructures, institutions and traditions.

The pressure is creating another round of tectonic shifts. Resistance is futile. This process is subject to forces outside mortal control.

Foundations and structures are undergoing metamorphosis. Long-term goals and ground rules are evolving — just as we are evolving, and as our connections with each other are as well.

The t-square’s pressure is dumping out in the mid degrees of Cancer, expressing itself in issues of home, family, nurturing and tribal definitions. All of them are responding to the emotional crestings of this Full Moon, the heart/will decisions, and the evolutionary surges in our closest connections.

But mostly importantly, each of us is responding.

No need to force anything. Venus/Mars in Virgo will restrain you from that. It’s a truism of therapy: as a person changes, everyone else in the system shifts, adapts and changes, too. Focus on your experience, and trust that the rest is taking care of itself.

May promises a crazy-quilt of epiphanies and breakthroughs; explosions and implosions; structure and solidifying; and ever-greater commitment to self. And beyond the broken glass from so many shattered light bulbs, life-changing messages and streamlined priorities.

The hubbub comes from several overlapping cycles entering new phases. Our minds and information streams are in the middle of it all, tilting, opening, changing, committing and arriving at core truths. The activity fuels an actualizing fervor that ignited in December and is now hitting a reality-testing plateau. Inner fires are flaring, conveniently dovetailing with a renewed cosmic imperative for our lights to shine brightly, courageously, unabashedly.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or thwarted, help is on the way. This month’s journey will hand you occasions galore to retool your perspective, get out of your own way and embrace the value and uniqueness of the individual you are. Not to mention drop attachments that simply do not matter anymore.

Forecast for the 2016 Aries Full Moon

October 15 – 16, 2016
9:23 PM PDT /12:23 AM EDT / 4:23 AM GMT
23 Aries 14 / 23 Libra 14

The cosmic alarm clock is going off, but don’t bother reaching for the snooze button. There isn’t one. Not that anyone could sleep through the racket.

It’s coming off this year’s supercharged Aries Full Moon and its powder keg of emotional explosions, epiphanies, breakthroughs and jailbreaks. They are blasting us out of complacency and stuck places. Pushing fence sitters to jump to the ground and get going already. Detonating hair-trigger impulses venting pressure that’s been building for months, even years.

It’s all a cathartic antidote to the surreal atmosphere and whiplash-inducing reboots we’ve experienced this year. No more daze, shock, questioning sanity, feeling stalled, licking wounds or dissolving in tears. Raw, primal energy is being unleashed — life force, kundalini, courage, rage — that ignores (or thrives on) danger.

If you’ve been waiting for the nerve to pull off a risk, or make a move that’s given you pause, you now have at your disposal all the incentive, gumption and rocket fuel you could ever want. You are, in effect, packing heat. The complication is, so is everyone else.

The emotional harvest of this Moon is erupting both within us and all around us. Loose cannons and wild cards are everywhere. Ever heard of the phenomenon spontaneous human combustion? You may well see it. You may well experience it.

Little is neat, tidy or subtle. Even action you’ve been considering comes with surprises, leaping out on a schedule you didn’t contemplate, igniting with unexpected force, catapulting you into unforeseen — and probably unforeseeable — circumstances.

The volatility, unpredictability and chaos stem from the Moon’s tighter than tight company with Uranus, agent of radical change, and Eris, the goddess of discord. The Libra Sun may prefer playing nice with others, but that’s outweighed by these rabble rousers inflaming the individual end of the relationship axis represented by the Aries Moon.

Think you’ve already hit the point of “enough is enough?” Think again. With Uranus and Eris stoking this hothead, fearless Moon, there’s little chance of backsliding into dynamics of putting up with, tolerating or settling. The combined impact is making Humpty Dumpty out of out-of-balance arrangements, as well as any lingering inclination to remake yourself to fit someone’s expectations — or your projections, assumptions or beliefs of what someone expects or needs.

The Moon and her rough and rowdy companions are blowing up resistance, impediments and other forms of prisons, internal and circumstantial. The effect is catalytic, radically liberating as well as empowering, challenging us to step up and take charge of ourselves.

It’s time. We feel it, too. This Full Moon is a palpable milestone in the process of foundational upheaval, change and restructuring we’ve been undergoing for some four years, courtesy of the ongoing squabble between Uranus and Pluto.

The Aries Moon’s ruler, Mars, is heading for a conjunction with Pluto, ruler of the unavoidable end of the ongoing change imperative. Their meeting promises targeted, step-by-step, practical, mundane, concrete effort toward long-term goals — including that foundational restructuring we’ve been undergoing.

These two bodies are the traditional and modern ruler of Scorpio, the sign currently being visited by the ruler of the Libra Sun, Venus, goddess of all we hold dear (love, money, creativity, precious baubles, etc.). All the epiphanies and jailbreaks, all the apple carts being upended, all the glorious conflagration of this Full Moon, all are freeing us, hearts, energy and resources and all, for incremental progress on those long-term goals and revamped structures — including the relationships that are going along with us.

It’s time to get moving. It’s time to be bold. It’s time to just do it, whatever “it” we may have been pondering.

Postponing is unlikely, what with the cosmic alarm clock blaring for most of the rest of the month. Mars continues carrying out the cosmic change imperative by challenging Uranus, in an action-demanding square that peaks on the 28th and moves us further onto and into updated structures.

The Full Moon and the fortnight following it involve a concept that will dominate next year:  self-actualization. This Moon is priming our engines for a three-stage blast-off into that, and more, when order-loving Saturn trines radical Uranus, from the coming holiday season through November of next year.

That blast-off is part of the point of the last few years’ upheaval. This Moon frees and preps us for the journey.

Forecast for the 2016 Aries New Moon

April 7, 2014
4:23 AM PDT / 7:23 AM EDT / 11:23 AM GMT
18 Aries 04

Eclipse season is going out with a bang. No, April’s Aries New Moon isn’t an eclipse, yet it may as well be, for the wallop it packs. This one does more than supercharge life force and shake off the doldrums of winter, the usual gifts of the first New Moon of spring.  A fuse that’s been burning for years is hitting dynamite and igniting impulses that are catalyzing, propelling and unstoppable, forcing constraints and growth to explode.

Just as long brewing situations are being pushed out of the birth canal, each of us is being awakened and activated. Developments are blossoming in areas of life (and our beings) that have been pummeled and tenderized and reshaped for upwards of four years. This is not a moment to think, weigh or debate. We’re at a rare convergence of motivation to act and an environment that openly encourages action.

In many cases, we’ll jump at the first opportunity. That’s how primed we are — not just for something to give, but also for bold, radical breakthroughs, the fresh horizons and breathing room that allow us to move more freely and be more truly ourselves. Even if we’re not consciously ready, we’re becoming quick change artists all the same, all of us. Pressure’s building to unavoidable breaking points. Circumstances (and some people) will give way in a blink of an eye, and off we’ll fly.

Some of the playing out may cause dizziness. Some may be disorienting or breathtaking or cause  after-the-fact stage fright. (There won’t be time for that in advance. )  It won’t be willy-nilly, though. Some of the firepower will even be surprisingly controlled, and some will lead to places that inspire and deserve commitment.

One reason for this is the prep we’ve been doing for years. Another is the grounding that precedes the New Moon, when the Sun and then the Moon make a stabilizing link with order-loving Saturn in Sagittarius. After he pours wisdom, experience and a high-energy, broadened outlook into them, they then go up against the foundational restructuring Pluto in Capricorn is fostering. The effect is like a track and field event many of us were put through in phys ed class, the standing broad jump:  training and building up strength, especially mentally, then pushing your weight deep into the earth so your energy coils like a tightening spring, then flinging yourself forward as far as the pressure will take you.

And the fuel for that flight? It comes from Uranus, agent of radical, volatile, unpredictable change, standing right by the New Moon. He and his lightning bolts are the first influence the Moon and then the Sun cross after they leave each other. He’s the reason for the current shatterings, breakthroughs and split-second timing. Not all will occur out in the world, although much of it will. A lot of it will be on the mental level (Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, the cosmic messenger) — shifts in perspective, minds unlocking and viewpoints tilting on their sides. Other people may shock you. You may well surprise yourself, too.

You may, of course, harness this energy source for your own conscious purposes. It has the power to break you out of all manner of stuck places, or speed along some personal development that you’ve been wanting.

Not all of this New Moon’s gifts permit planning or steering, though. There will be times when motivation rises in you unexpectedly and you Have To Do Something, right then. Times when conditions morph or events happen so quickly all you can do is think with your feet. Times when a window opens and suddenly you’re in exhilarating, even risky circumstances and later, after you’ve caught your breath, you’re not sure whether you jumped or fell or were pushed (and likely the distinction won’t matter; likely you won’t care).

There’s little point in predicting specific events, or the timing of certain developments that you are oh-so-sure are on the way. Maybe they are; maybe they’re not quite what you think. With Uranus in the middle of this Moon’s action, anything could happen. Stay loose and open to possibility. And enjoy the ride.

Forecast for April 2016

Keep your knees loose. Anything can happen this April, and it might lead to whiplash. Just when you’re sprung from prison and catapulting into wild adventure, back you go again and again  over territory you thought you’d finished.

Two shifts at the month’s start presage these counter currents. Our interacting style turns impulsive, impassioned and a tad reckless as Venus, ruler of love, money and all we value, turns huntress in Aries on April 5. Everyone’s on the prowl, and the thrill of the chase is the game. Yet talk is slow, concrete and “prove it!” thanks to Mercury moving into Taurus on the same day. Venus inclines us to pounce, but Mercury says to take our time. No one’s going anywhere quickly, which could, actually, end up being just what Venus wants  — especially when she and lover Mars collaborate on the 12th.

Except that we are going places quickly, and how. Explosions are going off within and around us at the Aries New Moon on the 7th. It’s right next to volatile, unpredictable Uranus, and the combo  ignites dynamite at the individual, liberating end of the cosmic change imperative that’s been restructuring reality for the past four years. The blast sets off a breakthrough that’s been building — perspective-altering, catalyzing and self-actualizing. Look at the ensuing excitement as a coming attractions trailer for when Saturn brings grounding and stabilizing (and, okay, maybe limits) to Uranus, starting at Christmastime.

Enjoy flying high and running free; it lasts unfettered for a week, max. The skies are rerouting us to Retrograde City. We’re already at the outskirts at month’s start, with Jupiter and and Saturn backtracking through Virgo and Sagittarius. Three more planets join the trend from the 16th on. The combined impact has us singing variations on a song from The Monkees’ cult classic Head, “Do I Have to Do This All Over Again?”

Yep. Again and again. We’re returning to issues of education, beliefs, prejudices, legal matters, publicity and foreign people, places and things when Mars turns retrograde at 8 Sagittarius on April 16th. His retreat lasts until June 29 and takes him back into Scorpio starting May 2, when he’ll be triggering action on unfinished business from Saturn’s return to that territory last summer.  For now he’s inviting do-overs and picking up dropped threads — understanding, wisdom, credentials, chances to visit far-flung spots on the globe, seeing how much our perspective filters our experience of life. Watch for irritation, frustration, resentment and anger; look for opportunities to laugh or see the bright side.

Pluto begins his annual retrograde on April 18 at 17 Capricorn (making a harsh, action-demanding angle to the Aries New Moon). His impact is more nuanced, but inescapable, since he’ll move barely a degree until his direct station on September 26. Think of it as drilling deeper and deeper into one particular spot for a more intense, transforming experience. For each of us it has to do with restructuring foundations (the systemic end of the change imperative of the past four years). The potential exists to make even more basic and pervasive chance, to let in light or air, or to let out infestation.

While we’re walking and looking backwards, breakthroughs abound. They involve relationships, finances, self-worth and creativity thanks to Venus’ mid-month assignations. First she gets into a shoving match with bigger, fiercer, grittier ruler of desire and money, Pluto, on the 19th (when the Sun begins its annual time in Taurus). While she’s still hot and bothered, Venus has a long, hot date with firebrand Uranus. They’re conjunct by zodiacal degree and by declination April 22-24, and their tryst begins on the Scorpio Full Moon, the most intense, magnetic and intimate emotional culmination point short of an eclipse. The only sure prediction for what that  convergence will unleash is that it won’t be boring. Those days will have the quality of playing with firecrackers, leaping without thinking, much less looking, and hearts breaking free — or open.

Communication and getting around join the fun and games by the 28th, when cosmic messenger Mercury goes retrograde until May 22.  Slow and steady becomes outright slothlike. Expect discussions and commutes to take much longer than the norm (and possibly what uninformed patience can endure). The beauty of living as if suspended in time is that if you gaze long and hard at what’s before you, you could possibly truly see it.  Use this chaser retrograde to go over and pick up details and put your mind, technology and vehicles in reliable working order. Also know that if Venutian impulsiveness brings cause for regret, Mercury retrograde in Taurus provides ample time to chew on the situation and devise a practical response that requires no rush to implement. For more about this retrograde and navigating it, read my article How To Survive the 206 Retrogrades.
