Cowabunga! 2015 Pisces New Moon Solar Eclipse

March 20, 2015

29 Pisces 27

2:36 AM PDT / 5:36 AM EDT / 9:36 AM GMT

The Pisces New Moon Solar Eclipse is an Alpha-and-Omega event. It’s bringing endings and beginnings of epic proportions, unifying and eliminating while yanking us out of hibernation in accelerated blossoming.

The year’s first eclipse is a force of nature, or rather, a paradoxical combination of forces.  Water and fire don’t normally coexist — water usually douses fire — but this time water is catalyzing and empowering the flames. (Thinking of fire as life force may make it easy to wrap your head around this.)

Unstoppable, emotional to the max and all-encompassing, the Pisces Moon is unleashing a tsunami that washes away everything that doesn’t fit on our recently restructured platforms — and delivers that power right into the rebirth-of-fire-and-life that comes with the beginning of spring.

Multiple characteristics create this intensity.  The New Moon is at the very last degree of Pisces and of the zodiac. The location is sometimes called the degree of ultimate sorrow, because it contains all  existence and carries the pain and suffering of every living being.  The degree is also conjunct the first degree of the zodiac, known as the Aries point. This location is significant for the collective, because  the degree connects individuals to the world at large.  The upshot? This New Moon blurs boundaries and scrambles personal experience with everyone else’s. We may be flooded by compassion; we may simply be flooded. (Empaths, prepare to wring yourselves out.)

The New Moon has the added power of a solar eclipse, which jettisons some aspects of life as we know it as it catapults us forward. It’s like a scene change in theater. The lights go to black and in the darkness the stage crew moves scenery around, some characters leave and others come in. The lights then come up and show who and what are now on stage. Martyrdom, sacrifice and carrying other people’s burdens drive many of the set changes, particularly decisions not to engage in any of that any longer. Star Trek’s prime directive is a pertinent guideline: not to interfere with another’s right to self-determination. The lights will be gradually coming up on this eclipse through at least September, when the year’s next solar eclipse occurs, in the opposite (and boundary-loving) sign of Virgo. Some change in your cast of characters is inevitable. Perhaps you are already seeing this.

The timing of this eclipse is another factor. The New Moon comes 13 hours before the vernal equinox, the moment the sun enters Aries and officially launches spring.  Even though the Sun and the Moon will have moved on from Pisces at the equinox, they’ll still be resonating with the eclipse that drop-kicked them across the line  — as will the entire spring.

This New Moon is not merely ending winter and ushering in the next season, though. The event is also taking us from long and painful life-reshaping tumult into situations that will ultimately calm and settle.  It’s the lead-out for the final Uranus/Pluto square, the last lurch in the radical foundational restructuring we have all been undergoing since 2012.

That process has been rocky to the max. Think of where you were three years ago (try seven, if you really want to open your mind) and compare it to now. How much of your old life remains, especially inside of you?  The worst of the upheaval subsided by last fall, when we finally had the opportunity to begin to work with the changes instead of fight and scream and resist.

Until the last two weeks, that is, when hothead Mars joined Uranus’ rebel outfit and did battle with Pluto and demons from the depths. That set off nigh-on apocalyptic breakdowns and reckonings, which escalated frustration, fury, adrenalin bursts and swearing jags, when then armed and motivated us for the tectonic plate shifting of the final square.

After that, who wouldn’t benefit from some emotional release? The solar eclipse is providing that, in spades.  Reactions are pouring out to more than this week, more than this month, more than one individual experience. Don’t hold back. Don’t judge other people, either, even if they look to be going overboard, from your perspective. We’ve all got a backlog of pent-up emotion.

Let it go. Let it flow.  It’s watering the restructured turf on which you’re building the next stage of your life. It’s fueling the growth coming in the spring. You’re preparing for upgrades. Trust that. And ride the waves. Even the big one.

Enormous Changes At the Last Minute: Astrology Forecast for March 2015

Never mind the calendar and the weather. The most active time of the year has arrived.  March puts us through a gauntlet of flaring passions, fire bombs, eruptions, earthquakes, departures, and shape shifts that stabilize surprisingly quickly. And most of the action kicks in well before the first day of spring.

Little is coming out of nowhere. Developments are breaking into being that have been building below the surface, or starting and stalling, or taunting us from the periphery or elsewhere. The trigger comes from three big influences happening in quick succession. Their combined effect escalates the action, rearranges the playing field (and the players) and shoots us in a direction for years to come.

Cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto have their final smack down mid-month, wrapping up the foundational restructuring they have been demanding for the past three years. See if you don’t dive into their last clash head on, consciously or not.  Gumption, daring and a gambler’s confidence are yours, whether you’ve been biding your time, whether you’ve been dillydallying or fence-sitting, and whether the final showdown catches you unawares.  (By the way, if you warmed up to changing conditions last fall but were unable to move forward, the time is ripe to tackle them.)

March 1-10
The beginning of the month fortifies us for the final clash.  Messages and realizations abound that set the stage for our approach. As Mercury, ruler of our information flow, finally leaves the turf he traveled during his recent retrograde, perspectives clarify to make sense of much that happened (or didn’t happen) in January and February.

The month’s first 10 days ignite life force, desire, ambition and other fierce impulses as expansive Jupiter links to Uranus and the cosmic lovers Venus, goddess of love, and Mars, god of war.  These meetings have the effect of throwing flame accelerant on the Uranian end of the equation, escalating unpredictability, volatility, rebelliousness, radical shifts in perspective, and strikes for freedom and individuality, come what may. (You might sense a connection to the fires of last October, when this link most recently occurred.)

Amid such excitement, the Virgo Full Moon on the 5th is unlikely to draw much attention. It offers as a gentle grounding force, reminding us to exercise discernment, maintain healthy boundaries and take our vitamins. We are not likely to heed its cautions, not when we have felt held back for so long and sense so much finally coming to life.

The brakes are lifting on desires, too. Venus and Mars are in hunter mode and going for broke. Nothing’s getting in their way, either. Jupiter is egging them on, Uranus is unlocking inhibitions (as if this pair in Aries had many in the first place), and Pluto is making cravings nigh on impossible to resist. With that outer planet triple whammy, subtlety and caution go out the window and I WANT takes over.

March 12-17
While the fires are still crackling, Mercury enters Pisces (on the 12th), where logical thought gives way to knowing, blending and grokking. Intuitive, instinctive navigation is the only way to go now, especially with Saturn beginning a nearly six-month retrograde on the 14th. His about-face promptly stirs trouble with Mercury, highlighting the year’s theme of answering for the words and beliefs that run through our minds and out of our mouths. “Nos” and walls you encounter may not be the final answer. Pushing through won’t work at this point, though; turn on your inner GPS and bide your time.

As Mercury and Saturn square off, on the 16th, so do Uranus and Pluto, for the seventh and final time. They are unleashing one final tectonic plate shift, which puts the playing field in the condition that will remain for the foreseeable future (and stabilize beyond what you can currently imagine, in the fall).

See if you don’t dive into this final clash head on, full of daring and gumption and come-what-may bravado. Your life has radically altered since June 2012, when the first square took place. (The rest happened in September 2012, May and November 2013, and April and December 2014.)  Foundations have cracked open. Connections and agreements have shattered. Rule books have changed. Your own priorities and programming have evolved. Odds are by last fall you stopped resisting or fighting the changing conditions and moved to facing and even dealing with them.  What happens now is full of surprises. The person you will likely surprise most is yourself.

The urge for solid ground and firm footing comes quickly. Venus, ruler of how we relate and what we desire, moves into her home base of Taurus on March 17th and encourages sinking all the hubbub into tangible, sensory and bankable currency.  Chocolate, wine, fresh flowers and gentle caresses are not luxuries, but necessary comforts.  Attention is still split, though, with part of it still fixed on going after desires, rather than having them delivered to us. That’s because Venus’ lover Mars will not join her in Taurus until the end of the month; he continues questing on his beloved battlefield until the 31st.

March 20: The Year’s First Eclipse on the First Day of Spring
While shockwaves are spreading from Uranus and Pluto’s final smack down,  the year’s first eclipse occurs on the first day of spring, 13 hours before the Sun enters Aries. March’s new moon takes place at the last degree of the zodiac, 29 Pisces. This is an extraordinarily sensitive location. It is called the degree of ultimate sorrow, because it embodies the culmination of everything carried by all of existence. It is also, effectively, the first degree of the zodiac, the critical Aries point, which is the most instigating, propelling and dynamic degree affecting the collective experience.

As the three-year process of the Uranus/Pluto square sets our new platform into place, this New Moon catapults us far onto it. Issues of boundaries, compassion and interconnectedness color the spring, which officially starts at 6:46 EDT, and last at least until September’s Virgo solar eclipse.

More housecleaning is part of the deal. A solar eclipse always sends situations and people out the door. It is like the lights going out at the end of an act on stage, scene changes occurring in the blackout, and the lights gradually coming on to reveal who and what is now on stage. Martyrdom, sacrifice and carrying other people’s burdens drive many of the set changes, particularly decisions not to engage in any of that any longer. Star Trek’s prime directive is a pertinent guideline: not to interfere in a species’ right to self-determination.

March 22-31
The first days of spring provide a gentle lead-out from the tumult of the first half of the month. They make it easy to embrace empowering truths, connect our hearts to higher guidance and express true love (as opposed to romance) down here on earth. With Mercury meeting Chiron, words have a healing power that can soothe and rectify longstanding wounds, especially involving inner dialogue we’ve used to harm ourselves.

Personal stabilizing builds by the 25th, whether outer conditions are calming or not.  Desires are mushrooming, too. Everyone is asking for more, and you may reach further than is your norm. Don’t worry that you’ve been implanted with an entitlement gene. What you’re wanting — even demanding — isn’t trivial or frivolous, but deeply meaningful and compelling, as the money and desire planets Venus and Pluto open the channel of a trine on the 30th.

Mercury’s shift to high-energy, fearless Aries encourages directly asking for what you want. Our words continue to hop as our drive starts to settle down. Mars enters Taurus on the 31st and inclines us to slow down, examine what is before us,  and proceed deliberately. After the month’s excitement, we’ll be ready for some slow time. Not to mention a snack and a nap.

2014 Aries Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

2014 Aries Full Moon Lunar Eclipse
October 8, 2014
3:50 AM PDT / 6:50 AM EDT / 10:50 AM GMT
15 Aries 5/ 15 Libra 5

This month’s Aries Full Moon Lunar Eclipse has the force of dynamite blowing open a safe in our hearts. The emotions it releases may be explosive and fiery, but so is the liberation it’s delivering.

Every Full Moon is a moment of culmination, when events and feelings crest to a level that can not be ignored. A lunar eclipse enhances that quality with moments of revelation. We see factors that have been going on outside our conscious perception, usually for a long, long time, from bugaboos in our own psyches to stuff other people have been up to, influenced by or feeling.

With the revelations, and often because of them, a massive reboot occurs. Chapters close. People leave. Our feelings change.  All of this is for good (in both senses of that word), whether it happens in one life-changing blast, or whether it unspools over a period of months.

Relationships are core to everything happening now: Our relationship to ourselves. How we see and present ourselves in relation to others. The role that relationships play in our lives. How we treat other people and how we let them treat us. Specific relationships and specific people, whether currently in our lives or lodged in our psyches.

The current eclipse brings us full cycle from October 1995, when an Aries lunar eclipse last took place at this degree. What kinds of choices did you make then?   (For example, in 1995 I had knowingly settled for much less than I wanted, because I had given up and decided nothing better was coming. In the build-up to the October eclipse one sentence in a seemingly casual conversation changed everything, and I heard, “This will never work” bubble up from some previously unknown part of myself. Getting out took till the spring — the remainder of the eclipse cycle — because we’d just signed a lease together. But internally, from that moment on, I was done.)

You’re gravitating toward different options now, because you have profoundly changed since then — especially in how you value yourself. Everything that’s being fired up now has been undergoing relentless pressure to evolve for the past couple of years. Your current situations, impulses and options are outgrowths of two recent times in particular:  the end of last year and again this past April.

Think of the signals you got then that your personal relationship (and self-worth) status quo was entering a wildly different phase. The first round, between Christmas and New Year’s (and perhaps into the middle of January) might have brought startling breakthroughs, or might have been more of a head’s up. The second, in April, might have had more of a quality of being suspended in awareness of brewing changes, rather than experiencing them.

The instigator both times was Mars, which rules the masculine drive, marching through the relationship sign of Libra and locking horns with Uranus and Pluto, the two cosmic change agents that have been destabilizing all of our foundations since 2012.  In mid-April, the three of them formed a grand cardinal cross with the enlarging influence of Jupiter. They’re all in play again with this eclipse, but it different positions, and new players have entered the fray.

We have reached the point of accepting, assimilating and doing something about all the relationship and self-worth issues that have been sensitized.  Be honest with yourself about what you want — and your deserving to have it. Your order’s being fulfilled, and allies are on the scene to help. The Sun and Venus are in the position that Mars occupied at Christmas and during April’s cardinal cross, so whatever’s arriving is in alignment with what you now value.

No timid or half measures now, either (as if there were currently possible). We’re all in for high-voltage, high-velocity twists, blasts, take-offs, break-outs and breakthroughs. The eclipse’s revelations will have a combustive and motivating emotional impact on us, since the Moon is siding with the volatile, unpredictable and individual element in the ongoing change imperative. (Think: Molotov cocktail.)

She’s sandwiched between Uranus and her south node, a point that represents what we are moving away from.  This combo holds the power to blow up attachment to the past, to ignite booster rockets and shoot us into daring new orbits and to leave bridges blazing in the wake of our take-off.

That alone would be enough to make this eclipse a life changing event. Another configuration is pouring right into it that is unlocking energy and life force like we have never experienced, and will not again. (Heady words, but true.)

A round robin of fire energy, called a grand trine, is coursing from the Moon and Uranus to Jupiter to Mars — two of the forces that held us suspended but chomping at the bit in April.  They’re igniting the opposite extreme, inflaming us to impulsive action and self-actualization, without forethought or consideration of the consequences. (Good thing we’ve been grappling with these issues for years, right?)

We’re roaring back to life and riding fierce, furious and unpremeditated passions. They could be anger, could be boundless, enthusiastic derring-do, could be kundalini rising; at times, they will be blazing in wild cauldron of all. They’ll tamp down, a bit, at the Scorpio New Moon in two weeks, but only a bit. What they spark in us, in our connections and in our lives will not have its first big measuring point until the Libra lunar eclipse next April.

That notion that you have to do everything on your own, that you can’t rely on anybody, that no matter what you do, you’re fundamentally on your own? It’s toast. So are those patterns of putting up with less than loving treatment. Stop hauling this stuff out of the garbage and into your heart and life. Let it burn away, finally. The same with all those ghosts that Mercury retrograde is summoning.  Send them into flames that will purify the memories and turn pain and resentment to ash.

Open your eyes and look around. The true you is not alone. A new traveling party has assembled And at least one somebody  is on the scene who sees You at the depth of your soul.

Suggested ritual: Since we’re all on fire, work with fire. Write out descriptions of the chapters you are closing, the past behaviors, programming and attachments you (or that) are blowing up and anything else you’d like to burn away. Ceremonially set fire to the paper(s) in a pit or fireplace or large bowl. If you’re daring, energetically place yourself in the fire, too, with the intention that you will emerge reborn and revitalized like a phoenix. And you will.

2014 Taurus New Moon Solar Eclipse

April 29-29, 2014
11:14 PM PDT / 2:14 AM EDT / 6:14 AM GMT
8 Taurus 51

The reboot of the last few weeks is wrapping up. Our operating systems are coming back online with the Taurus New Moon Solar Eclipse that’s closing out this most tumultuous stretch of our lives. Updated programming is running the show now, and implementing a revised and refined experience of reality.

Some of the new internal ground rules have already been creeping to consciousness and taking hold. You might be able to identify one event as a doorway, but it’s not the end of the story. It’s part of a process that will be rolling out for months, into the fall at least.

It has deep roots, too. As with the Libra Full Moon two weeks ago, this eclipse is a recurrence of one that happened in April 1995. Then, as now, the pair of eclipses closed a chapter in relationships and launched a new mode of sharing resources and intimacy.

Remarkable, memorable endings and beginnings occurred in that spring 19 years ago. Astonishing endings and beginnings are taking place now, too, but we’re approaching them differently than in 1995.  We are ourselves profoundly different. Each of us has been undergoing an absolute and utter metamorphosis for the past two years.  That restructuring has been quickening fiercely lately, with the cardinal cross taking shape in the middle of the Libra and Taurus eclipses.

The Taurus New Moon is a milestone in moving away from restructuring and into a new way of being. It is parlaying the shifts we have been experiencing — inside ourselves and in our relationships — into tangible, solid, bankable reality.  Ultimately, it will extricate us from the turmoil and agony that’s been ambushing so many of us lately. Even if you’re still in pain, even if you’re still exhausted, even if you’re still occasionally feeling stymied or uncertain or weepy-eyed, you can not backslide. It’s impossible. The world you left has evaporated. The trappings you threw off, the posturing and posing and masks and positions you assumed because you thought you had to, to get by — all of these have fallen away. They’ve slipped into an alternate universe, out of your reach forever.

Welcome this New Moon. Mark it as a time of spring and new growth for you, personally. Then watch the blooming in your life. The agony of suspense is fading. Uncertainty and hanging in limbo are sliding into knowing and movement.  Shifting ground is stabilizing. New patterns are locking into place.

The pace will pick up any day, probably when you least expect it. The coming attractions teaser will be the eruption of information, messages and conversations when the Moon meets Mercury later on Tuesday. They’ll drive home what’s most important to you, but fast (thanks the flow from the Moon to shape-shifting Pluto). When the Moon reaches out to Jupiter and doors start opening, you’ll know which ones have meaning to you and which ones do not.

The Moon’s journey foreshadows the pruning and blossoming coming soon for your sense of yourself. In May the Sun will run the same gauntlet of planets and influences, calibrating you to your new circumstances. Your thinking, particularly about yourself, will clarify. You’ll cut back and regroup. You’ll have the opportunity to nurture and and support this new-and-improved you.

You have every potential of emerging lighter, more self aware, more focused, less distracted, more nourished, less wasteful, more present and more genuinely yourself. All of which are useful traits to have when your little cart hits a power-up and suddenly accelerates to triple speed. Hang tight; you’re about to fly. Zoom, zoom indeed!

Play Astrology in Action With Me

The astrology of this cluster of aspects has already been showing up dramatically in the news. I invite you to play Astrology in Action with me and share what you see by email or by posting comments to my Facebook page or here on the Astro-Isight blog.  Here are some observations to get you going:

Some of what is coming to light and calling for addressing ties to Christmas Eve through early January and/or early summer 2012. Here’s one example: The last week or two brought to light something called the Heartbleed bug, which affects passwords in a type of cryptography used by roughly 2/3 of all websites — think about that. News reports are that the National Security Administration has known about this flaw for about two years and has been exploiting it to expand its monitoring of us, rather than notifying any of the big sites that have been affected. And that the President authorized the NSA’s action in January.

Another time frame to consider is spring 1995. A lunar eclipse occurred at the same degree of Libra on April 15, 1995 as the eclipse that’s happening this Tuesday.  One pivotal event that happened then was the Oklahoma City bombing, which took place on April 19, 1995. Coincidentally or not, that’s the same day I had my first date with the first man I formally lived with. I’ll be watching for themes related to either to be coming back around again.

The current pressures are directly hitting the US, because its sun is at exactly the degree of the grand cross that’s forming among Uranus, Jupiter, Mars and Pluto, at 13 degrees of the cardinal signs. If you’ve been following the furor over mentions of evolution in the rebooted TV show Cosmos, it should not surprise you that the host, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, was born when the sun was almost at that very degree.
