Forecast for the June 2016 Sagittarius Full Moon

June 2016 Sagittarius Full Moon
June 20, 2016
29 Gemini 32 / 29 Sagittarius 32
4:02 AM PDT / 7:02 AM EDT / 11:02 AM GMT
June has pushed, pulled, pummeled and pinned us down. Surely you’ve noticed? Surely you’ve reacted? You bet! Not to the level of resolution and moving on, though. Unresolved bits are building like a flame traveling down the fuse to a depth charge. They are going off now under the year’s second Sagittarius Full Moon. It’s a cathartic, purgative, era-ending emotional harvest, with the power to blow the carbon out, refresh your lens on life and reclaim hope, optimism and cause for boundless laughter.

This Moon continues and amplifies the emotional harvest that began last month, which saw a Full Moon at the very beginning of Sagittarius. Raw expression is now reaching deeper and more refined levels, dredging up more and more and ballooning it, as the Moon hits the sign’s last degree and heads for the exit.

Watch for events to escalate the extremity and real-world impact of beliefs into the unimaginable.  The last gasp of Sagittarius maximizes an unyielding, jingoistic, my-way-or-the-highway point of view, with the media (social as well as commercial) serving as bully pulpit. Racism, bigotry, hatred and arguments over rights (gun, GLBT, women’s, sexual assault, and on and on and on) are variations on the theme of demonizing a person, group or concept that feels foreign, rather than perceiving others as fellow humans. Every component of that sentence is an inescapable topic right now. Your own reactions will reveal much.

Because this occurs mere hours before the solstice, the event simultaneously sums up the month and the season, and kicks off the summer as well. The Full Moon promises to clear a lot out of our hearts and put them in different, if not better, repair for the summer. The condition they’re in will color the next season. Our emotional filters stand to lead to a healthier, more expanded experience of life in some ways, and point out where there’s room for improvement.

Focus on the now, for now: How have you been feeling this month? Look back on the most highly charged developments you’ve experienced recently. Pick one. Immerse yourself in the energy of the drama and allow it to swell into cartoonishly large proportions. Escalate it to the point of ridiculousness, until you laugh. Out loud. Fake it if you have to; that’ll be the spark that sets off the glorious, soul-clearing laughter that is the gift of Sagittarius.

More importantly, how have this month’s complex blend of feelings related to the way you view yourself and the world? Consider what they — and your reactions — reveal about what you believe to be true. This inquiry goes beyond whether you view life as a glass half full, empty, cracked and leaded, or refillable. Likely a situation or two had you following scripts (internally at least) you picked up years and years ago. Want to change them? There’s no time like the present.

This Moon is creating a safe room (well, maybe not safe — but definitely a space!) for releasing the push/pull/immobilizing energies of the mutable grand cross that has dominated the month. The rulers of both the Sun and the Moon are in the cross, which has changed since its line-up at the Gemini New Moon.

Mercury, ruler of the Gemini Sun, has taken the place previously occupied by the Sun and Venus, a switch that ups the chatter level and speeds the information flow. The Sagittarius Moon’s ruler, Jupiter, is conjunct the North Node, representing the path of the future. This combo underscores the possibilities for, and the importance of, improved boundaries and healthier, decluttered thinking for all of us, individually and collectively.

Jupiter is also the doorway for this Moon’s potent evolutionary properties. They come from the open channel between the great benefactor and Pluto, agent of unavoidable change. This pair is making the last of three easy flows, or trines (the previous were in September and March), deepening structural change, cleaning out debris, and building the foundations that are taking the place of so much that crumbled in the turmoil and upheaval since 2012. This last pass adds to the end of the era, end of the line vibe of this Full Moon.

Speaking of said turmoil and upheaval, the other responsible party is stirring up this Full Moon as well. Uranus, agent of unexpected and radical change, is in an adjustment aspect to Mars, ruler of our drive, action and masculine impulses. Uranus is the planet of tilt, and his gift is on hand. Tilt your perspective; tilt your approach. A notion that dovetails perfectly with the harvest and releasing energies of this Full Moon.

Our marching orders couldn’t be clearer. Don’t stifle anything that comes up now. Alter how or to whom you let it out, maybe, but no bottling up. If you don’t like how you’re feeling, look to how that ties into your outlook on life…and adjust.

Look for the humor, too. The Sagittarius Moon should make that easy to spot. And as Joni Mitchell sang, “Laughing and crying, it’s all the same release.”

Forecast for the 2016 Gemini New Moon

2016 Gemini New Moon
June 4-5, 2016
14 Gemini 53
7:59 PM PDT / 10:59 PM EDT / 2:59 AM GMT

Strap on your bungee cord and hang on tight. And keep breathing. The Gemini New Moon is treating us to a glorious, bewildering, quick-changing kaleidoscope of emotions, challenges and gifts.

This is not easy energy. It may be the most difficult of the year, to be honest. Gut level discomfort is off the charts. At times it will feel like labor pains, or an alien exploding out of your chest. There’s no way out except through. Try to escape and a screaming crisis will plunge you back into the mess — or an unexpected boon will wet your eyes and renew faith and joy at simply being alive.

Experiences are peak in every extreme, cycling in and out and often piling on each other in one discomfiting mess: Bliss and incredulity at dreams taking physical shape. Moments of connection so sweet they strain the heart’s ability to embrace them. Misunderstandings, panic, and specters of soul-crushing loss and calamity, heavy on finances and security.

Two monumental, interlocking configurations are responsible for the peculiar nature of this Moon. One is a grand cross, a combination face-off and shoving match in the middle degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). The changeable, flexible nature of these signs is behind the every which way character of events, impulses and life in general right now.

All year, three titans have been whipping up pressures, confusion and the need to go on instruments:  Jupiter in Virgo (turbo-charged analyzing and clean up), Saturn in Sagittarius (rigidity vs. wisdom in life philosophy, issues of law and authority, plus invitations to act with integrity and accountability) and Neptune in Pisces (illusion, delusion, confusion, transcendence and connection with all that is). This New Moon fills the empty leg in the configuration and splays the pressure of a three-way shoving match to the four winds.

The cross simultaneously speeds up and stops time. It has us running in a zillion directions, or in place, and yet immobilized. Circumstances change like sand dunes shifting in the wind. Emotions — this is a Moon event, remember? — are especially all over the map. It’s as if the entire human race has gone hormonal.

No easy or lasting resolution is possible with this, just yet. The challenge is to deal with each moment as it hits, and then confront the next on its own terms.

Ground yourself firmly and deeply and you can exist the grace and suppleness of a reed through this Moon and the weeks growing out of it. Fortunately, the skies are giving us an assist for exactly this, via the other monumental configuration. It connects to the grand cross at Jupiter in Virgo, the point that favors optimistic, expansive thinking and healthy boundaries. Jupiter is part of the free-flowing energy of a grand trine to Pluto in Capricorn (agent of unavoidable change transforming structures and foundations) and Mercury in Taurus (bringing communications down to terra firma and their most concrete, and the ruler of the Gemini Moon).

This unimpeded current in earth roots the every-which-way energies in stabilizing, tangible and practical considerations. Uproar and delights alike are directly linked to real life and the real world. Just as much as disruptions and unwelcome developments have concrete ramifications and likely cost, so are dreams, artistry and relationships coming out of stardust and into physical form. Think: Star Trek characters materializing in the transporter in slo-mo.

Some of the transmissions may come in spurts, jerks and clouds of static. They are coming, however. Your mind’s eye is clouded. When it freaks out, sputters, panics, give it a task. (Cleaning is ideal. Seriously.) When you feel underlying calm in the face of a panic, trust your feelings. We’re flying on instruments. Foremost, with the heart.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. “ — Antoine du Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince.

Forecast for June 2016

June is one of the monumental months of the year. It’s a jumble of paradoxes, dualities, contradictions and cross-currents, many of which are not going to make sense.

They will push, pull, stretch and pressure. Whip up a frenzy and immobilize. Obscure and reveal. Splay you across dimensions and time. Rivet attention to the boundless present and toss unfinished business back on the table.

Confounding, confusing and outright magical, they will  leave us with pertinent data, perspective and the gravitational pull of slow-building but lasting developments.

The inclination will be to think your way through this, especially once the ruler of communication, Mercury, returns to his home base of Gemini on the 12th. Instead, listen to your intuition, gut, instinct, whatever name you give it, even — and especially — when reason and empirical evidence suggest otherwise. Ride with the tide, go with the flow, follow the energy — use whatever saying works for you, but just roll with developments moment by moment, as they unfold. Projecting into the future will get you nowhere but frustration. And confusion, too. Surface appearances do not tell the true, or full, story right now.

Dipping into the past, on the other hand, is fruitful. This month is one long laboratory in makeovers, do-overs, revisions, updates and picking up stalled matters where they left off. Much of it will be shades of last summer, because Mars (planet of action) is traveling back over territory Saturn retrograded over then. Assignments, second chances and next steps will land in your path as well as arise from deep within you. You can also harness the drive to get to the bottom of things and dispatch all manner of lingering wishes and agenda items. This motivation is especially suited to dealing with unpleasantness. Some tasks may resemble cleaning out a failed root canal:  the process will not be welcome, but afterward, oh, how you will feel better.

The seemingly contradictory energies are coming from a convergence of hard aspects that demand or forestall action (squares and oppositions), which are locking together into a configuration called a grand cross. Frequently this pattern results in a log-jam. This one is all over the map, because the signs it’s in are mutable (changeable, flexible, versatile, every-which-way), and turning us all into human equivalents of a reed, or a Stretch Armstrong doll.

The grand cross incorporates three powerhouses that have been stressing, stretching and confusing us since late last year:  Saturn, the ruler of rules, order and consequences, his antithesis Neptune, ruler of transcendence and illusion, and Jupiter, the guy who ups any action he approaches. Credit them for transporting current reality into the Great Hall of Oz, where flaring flames, a booming voice and a disembodied head command attention, while unseen hands pull levers behind an unobtrusive curtain.

They’re making you question your sanity (and other people’s) and feel so spacey and overwhelmed.  This month their pressure becomes multi-directional, ricocheting from one point to another. The powerhouses have been been amping up the middle degrees of Gemini (hence the high noise-to-signal ratio and running from one shiny object to another). That spot is being filled early in the month by the Sun and Venus, which complete the grand cross. Their addition fleshes out the every-which-way mix with the general tone of the times and relationships, money, creativity and all we value, the areas of life Venus rules.

The energy of the grand cross locks into the Gemini New Moon on June 4. When Mercury fills the Gemini position June 20-22, the cross permeates the chart of the summer solstice on June 20, which carries the resonance of the tension throughout the summer as well. That day is action packed, most especially with the the year’s second Sagittarius Full Moon, at the sign’s last degree, occurring just before the solstice. That Moon has a kick of finality, with Mars ending his retrograde and month-long camp-out on the final degree of Scorpio on June 29.

Pro Tip: Have mercy on anyone with placements in the middle degrees of the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. For them, this weird journey is intensely, sometimes painfully personal.

Even on June’s strangest days, Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” is wafting on the breeze, if you still yourself enough to detect it. (All together now: “Everything little thing gonna be alright.”) Much will feel fated, headed in an optimal direction, or inexplicably okay, whether you can point to any tangible evidence to support the feeling.

L ikely you will see evidence, though. That’s the gift of the grounding, stabilizing sanity-bringing influence of an unimpeded flow between beneficial Jupiter and Pluto, agent of unavoidable change. They’ve been paving the way out of the chaos and upheaval that Uranus and Pluto have been stirring up over the past four years. The pair is making the last of three big assists (the others happened in September and March). Just what they’ve been building will become clearer by September.

Find an image of the Hanged Man in a Tarot deck of your choosing and use it as your inspirational icon for the month. Think of this month as an initiation. You’re being suspended above the action, unable to steer or force it. There’s a certain freedom in that; relax into it and stop asking how certain things are going to happen. The elevated vantage point also offers the gift of a panoramic view, which puts data in your field of vision that escaped you earlier.

By month’s end, transcendence is possible. Or magic. Or feeling unspeakably, blissfully moved, as Venus and Neptune bridge earthly and heavenly love. Hearts are opening. When Mercury enters Cancer on the 29th, emotions can’t help but pour out.

Forecast for the May 2016 Sagittarius Full Moon

May 21, 2016

2:14 PM PDT / 5:14 PM EDT / 9:14 PM GMT
1 Gemini 13 / 1 Sagittarius 13

by Kathy Biehl

This year’s first Sagittarius Full Moon is a high-energy, high-octane blaze of hard-driving emotions. Even if we’ve been going with the flow lately (and what choice have we had, really?), reactions have been building up. A person can be philosophical only so long until feelings kick in. As they do now.

We’re in for profound feedback about beliefs and their ramifications. And, boy, is it ever motivating.

This Full Moon takes place on the axis of Gemini and Sagittarius, which connects our information flow (thoughts, communications, data streams) to the systems of thought we build from that flow.  Each end is enjoying heightened awareness, not to mention a nigh-on breathtaking surge in activity.

Two influences are encouraging this condition. One is energy zipping between the rulers of each end, cosmic messenger Mercury (currently simulating a snail’s pace in Taurus, and stationing to turn direct the next day) and expansive Jupiter (in Mercury’s second home of Virgo, and now moving forward after a four-month-plus cleaning jag). Each is amplifying the other and whipping up thoughts, talk, messages, info, analysis, and ideas for improvement, for critique and, yes, for criticism.

The other is action hero Mars standing with the Moon and staring down the Sun. Emotions are giving him his marching orders, and he’s ready to not just respond, but also fight for or because of them. He’s retrograde as well, priming him (and, of course, us) for frustration, irritation, hair-trigger responses — and the gumption to dig up old business.

Because of his involvement, this Moon teems with fighting words and standing up for beliefs (and, alas, political differences leading to emotionally charged arguments). Integrity and walking your talk may be issues. So may bigotry, racism, jingoism and judgments. The archaic phrase “hoist on his own petard” may enjoy a brief revival, as words come back to haunt, especially via the media. Watch for a makeover of another old saying:  Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can truly wound.

This emotional harvest is not merely argumentative, or angry, or defensive, though. Look for a lust for adventure and running out of the corral. For bursts of optimism (or realizations of how badly it is needed) and the drive to learn, to explore and to expand your beliefs, training or outlook on life (ditto).

No matter what you observe in or receive from others — and confusion or behavior that makes no sense continues to run rampant — take everything back to yourself. Are your streams of information supporting you emotionally or riling you? What does the presence of X in your life say about what you believe to be true, or how you view the world? (Is that what you were taught, or what you really believe?) What does your emotional reaction say about that? Are you ready to improve, or expand, or otherwise do something about that?

This Moon is the kick off event for June’s grand cross in the middle of the mutable signs. (Think the political news has been weird? Just wait.) That configuration locks four action-demanding aspects into a paradox that requires having the flexibility of a reed — or being the human equivalent of a Stretch Armstrong doll. The cross will pull us this way and that, pressure us from multiple directions, speed the pace of life and yet make us feel immobilized. (Feeling it already, are you?) It will force us to give up the steering wheel, to look at whatever is happening in the moment and not think about tomorrow, or the next week, or later in the summer, and ultimately, to float above life in observer mode. That vantage point will expose us to information that we previously missed or failed to appreciate.

For now, we’re getting an interim report. Express and experience emotions based on what you think, know and believe now. More information will be revealed, later. We’ll get a follow up report on June 20, when a second Sagittarius Full Moon takes place at the sign’s last degree. The grand cross will be at its end as well, and deeply coloring the culminations under that Full Moon.

Forecast for August 5-11, 2013

There’s no escaping the tension that is building. It is the metaphoric equivalent of labor pains. As they grow more and more noticeable this week, we may hope, wish, pray and, yes, even scream for release. That, alas, is a couple of weeks away.

The pressures leading up to that will make us extremely conversant with the areas of life that are undergoing profound, unavoidable and inevitable change. The labor pains metaphor is apt, because what’s happening is a form of birth.  We are well into an arduous, irreversible and life-changing physical process (and aware of it). It has waves of pressure and discomfort leading to water breaking, contractions intensifying and something, eventually, coming into being.

This week, the process draws attention to the condition of our foundations, and particularly how they’re faring in the ongoing upheaval. Measurable fundamental restructuring has already occurred in at least the last year (and to some extent since January 2008).  We’re only about one-third of the way through the remodeling, though, which will be intense through 2015.

Jupiter is contributing his enlarging touch to this phase of the project. He directly opposes Pluto (agent of unavoidable, deep-level change) on Wednesday.  What’s coming up now is being exaggerated to the point of appearing cartoonish, not merely in political and collective news (currently an angry, gun-slinging mash-up of the Wild West, Old South and The Handmaid’s Tale), but also in our private lives.  Fears, insufficiency, hunger and overwhelming, even unfathomable emotions are welling around family and long-term security issues, traditions, food, emotional sustenance and nurturing.

Pulling the covers over your head will not silence these issues. They will find you, even in your sleep, sorry to say, and push you to daring (for you) and unapologetic solutions that do not rely on anyone’s assistance or intervention. They may not take shape, and the new you may not fully reveal itself, for a few weeks, during which your idea of what’s about to happen may cycle through multiple versions. Jupiter will keep the pressure going until the 21st, when he squares Uranus (agent of unpredictable, radical change).

This stretch coincides neatly with the next lunar phase, which launches with Tuesday’s Leo New Moon and culminates in the summer’s second Aquarius Full Moon, on the 20th. In the midst of the rising and roiling waters, the Leo New Moon stokes our inner fires. It’s fueling fortitude, courage and the willingness to meet the pressures head-on and even enjoy them. It’s kindling impulses to live, love, shine and play. Take the stage (center, if you dare), step into the light and bask in it. You’ll dance right into the pivotal moment and be forcefully bearing down on the contractions yourself by the Full Moon. Read more in my mooncast, which will be posted by Tuesday.

Mercury adds to the joi de vivre when he enters the Sun’s base of Leo on Thursday. The ruler of communication and transportation is making like a fire that burns quickly and hot, spending only two weeks (again, that lunar phase) in the sign this time around.  No one’s likely to endure the tension and upheaval quietly. We’ll be high-energy, expressive, dramatic and playful, maybe a bit childish, maybe a bit over the top, but definitely diving verbally into the fray.

More’s in my extended weekly forecast, which includes day to day analyses. For another take on this week’s events, listen to my quickie podcast.

I have now been making this weekly forecast freely available for five years without missing a single installment.
