Forecast for August 2016: Shifting Sands

August is the bridge between the weird, unsteerable stasis and discomfort of the past two months and the paradox of stabilizing and reboot coming this fall. It’s a wobbly bridge, to be sure,  swaying and shifting like a trick floor in a funhouse. Still, the movement is ultimately productive, instead of just getting in the way, or annoying.

Hearts and minds are assimilating, adjusting and adapting, working over so much that’s surfaced and striving to process the developments into something that makes sense. The exercise largely succeeds. Just as a sensation of balance descends, though, our attention flies back over territory we thought we’d covered.

No worries. The exercise, like the rest of the month, is valuable prep for what lies ahead.

The first half of the month delivers the oomph to send us on our way. The journey begins with Mars, ruler of our drive and actions, entering boisterous Sagittarius and energizing the Leo New Moon on the 2nd.

He’s been trawling the murky depths of Scorpio since spring, dredging up weighty, uncomfortable and unpleasant business that’s refused to go back in the closet. His entry into Sagittarius has us making like colts breaking out of a corral in search of movement, maneuverability, adventure and free-range contact with the outdoors.

Bemoaning and tending to wounds and nasty situations are out. Putting philosophies into action (or fighting for/over them), cracking jokes and generally having a good time are in. Moods improve;  motivation returns; optimism mounts.

Marching orders come from the heart as well.  It zips through three distinct styles of desires and relating. For the first four days, they’re maximum Leo, vibrant, extravagant and attention-seeking. Sober sensibility takes over from the 5th through the 29th, when Venus cools down in pragmatic, improvement-oriented, boundary-focused Virgo.

The appeal of thinking and talking things over has a shelf-life, though, and then movement and follow through are in order. It’s through this clear-headed lens that she demands action from Mars on the 6th. (Minds are screaming, “Move it!” too.) By the 17th, itches will be scratched and appetites  will be pursued, when the goddess of earthly desire and money collaborates with her primal, feral, force-of-nature counterpart Pluto.

Objective assessment hits immediately, with the Aquarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on the 18th. A firm reality check follows. Mars has a law and order meeting on the 24th with Saturn, enforcer of rules. The ramifications of recent high-energy actions crystalize. Questions arise (and likely resolve) about responsibility and wisdom. Don’t be surprised if Venus’ orders have sent Mars down the path to structure and commitment. Don’t be surprised, either, if he trots back into the corral and shuts the gate after himself.

The aftermath kicks up cosmic fog and glitter, with equal potential for confusion, illusion and romance, when Mars squares Neptune on the 26th. Who cares about reality, for the moment? Venus joins boundless Jupiter in a super-conjunction (by degree and declination) on the 27th. Hearts are viewing the glass not only as half full, but also fillable, and requesting more, please. Lots.

A meeting of hearts and minds leads to sighs of relief all around, as Venus meets Mercury and goes home to Libra, aka Relationship Central, on the 29th (bringing the heart’s third mode of expression). She’s still glowing from her date two days earlier with Jupiter, who’s heading over in September for his first visit in 12 years. In advance of her house guest (and the emphasis and expansion he promises), social interactions relax into niceties, prettily crafted sentiments, and an awareness of the game of give and take.

On Jupiter’s end, there’s tidying up to be done before he leaves Virgo. Mercury stations retrograde in that sign on the 30th and will not go direct until September 22, after Jupiter has left for Libra. The messenger god’s backtracking provides the opportunity to go over not merely his recent weeks in Virgo, but also the months and developments since last October, when Jupiter began traveling the degrees of this retrograde.

Snafus, breakdowns and garbling that occur now point to areas that have room for improvement and would benefit from attention before Jupiter completes his clean-up tour of Virgo. Look at this time as a chance to pick up dropped threads, learn missed information and address confusion and misunderstandings that have spun off Jupiter’s hard aspects to Neptune and his cosmic fog machine. What comes in September and beyond will be ever so much more solid, if you do.

Forecast for the 2016 Gemini New Moon

2016 Gemini New Moon
June 4-5, 2016
14 Gemini 53
7:59 PM PDT / 10:59 PM EDT / 2:59 AM GMT

Strap on your bungee cord and hang on tight. And keep breathing. The Gemini New Moon is treating us to a glorious, bewildering, quick-changing kaleidoscope of emotions, challenges and gifts.

This is not easy energy. It may be the most difficult of the year, to be honest. Gut level discomfort is off the charts. At times it will feel like labor pains, or an alien exploding out of your chest. There’s no way out except through. Try to escape and a screaming crisis will plunge you back into the mess — or an unexpected boon will wet your eyes and renew faith and joy at simply being alive.

Experiences are peak in every extreme, cycling in and out and often piling on each other in one discomfiting mess: Bliss and incredulity at dreams taking physical shape. Moments of connection so sweet they strain the heart’s ability to embrace them. Misunderstandings, panic, and specters of soul-crushing loss and calamity, heavy on finances and security.

Two monumental, interlocking configurations are responsible for the peculiar nature of this Moon. One is a grand cross, a combination face-off and shoving match in the middle degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). The changeable, flexible nature of these signs is behind the every which way character of events, impulses and life in general right now.

All year, three titans have been whipping up pressures, confusion and the need to go on instruments:  Jupiter in Virgo (turbo-charged analyzing and clean up), Saturn in Sagittarius (rigidity vs. wisdom in life philosophy, issues of law and authority, plus invitations to act with integrity and accountability) and Neptune in Pisces (illusion, delusion, confusion, transcendence and connection with all that is). This New Moon fills the empty leg in the configuration and splays the pressure of a three-way shoving match to the four winds.

The cross simultaneously speeds up and stops time. It has us running in a zillion directions, or in place, and yet immobilized. Circumstances change like sand dunes shifting in the wind. Emotions — this is a Moon event, remember? — are especially all over the map. It’s as if the entire human race has gone hormonal.

No easy or lasting resolution is possible with this, just yet. The challenge is to deal with each moment as it hits, and then confront the next on its own terms.

Ground yourself firmly and deeply and you can exist the grace and suppleness of a reed through this Moon and the weeks growing out of it. Fortunately, the skies are giving us an assist for exactly this, via the other monumental configuration. It connects to the grand cross at Jupiter in Virgo, the point that favors optimistic, expansive thinking and healthy boundaries. Jupiter is part of the free-flowing energy of a grand trine to Pluto in Capricorn (agent of unavoidable change transforming structures and foundations) and Mercury in Taurus (bringing communications down to terra firma and their most concrete, and the ruler of the Gemini Moon).

This unimpeded current in earth roots the every-which-way energies in stabilizing, tangible and practical considerations. Uproar and delights alike are directly linked to real life and the real world. Just as much as disruptions and unwelcome developments have concrete ramifications and likely cost, so are dreams, artistry and relationships coming out of stardust and into physical form. Think: Star Trek characters materializing in the transporter in slo-mo.

Some of the transmissions may come in spurts, jerks and clouds of static. They are coming, however. Your mind’s eye is clouded. When it freaks out, sputters, panics, give it a task. (Cleaning is ideal. Seriously.) When you feel underlying calm in the face of a panic, trust your feelings. We’re flying on instruments. Foremost, with the heart.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. “ — Antoine du Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince.

Forecast for June 2016

June is one of the monumental months of the year. It’s a jumble of paradoxes, dualities, contradictions and cross-currents, many of which are not going to make sense.

They will push, pull, stretch and pressure. Whip up a frenzy and immobilize. Obscure and reveal. Splay you across dimensions and time. Rivet attention to the boundless present and toss unfinished business back on the table.

Confounding, confusing and outright magical, they will  leave us with pertinent data, perspective and the gravitational pull of slow-building but lasting developments.

The inclination will be to think your way through this, especially once the ruler of communication, Mercury, returns to his home base of Gemini on the 12th. Instead, listen to your intuition, gut, instinct, whatever name you give it, even — and especially — when reason and empirical evidence suggest otherwise. Ride with the tide, go with the flow, follow the energy — use whatever saying works for you, but just roll with developments moment by moment, as they unfold. Projecting into the future will get you nowhere but frustration. And confusion, too. Surface appearances do not tell the true, or full, story right now.

Dipping into the past, on the other hand, is fruitful. This month is one long laboratory in makeovers, do-overs, revisions, updates and picking up stalled matters where they left off. Much of it will be shades of last summer, because Mars (planet of action) is traveling back over territory Saturn retrograded over then. Assignments, second chances and next steps will land in your path as well as arise from deep within you. You can also harness the drive to get to the bottom of things and dispatch all manner of lingering wishes and agenda items. This motivation is especially suited to dealing with unpleasantness. Some tasks may resemble cleaning out a failed root canal:  the process will not be welcome, but afterward, oh, how you will feel better.

The seemingly contradictory energies are coming from a convergence of hard aspects that demand or forestall action (squares and oppositions), which are locking together into a configuration called a grand cross. Frequently this pattern results in a log-jam. This one is all over the map, because the signs it’s in are mutable (changeable, flexible, versatile, every-which-way), and turning us all into human equivalents of a reed, or a Stretch Armstrong doll.

The grand cross incorporates three powerhouses that have been stressing, stretching and confusing us since late last year:  Saturn, the ruler of rules, order and consequences, his antithesis Neptune, ruler of transcendence and illusion, and Jupiter, the guy who ups any action he approaches. Credit them for transporting current reality into the Great Hall of Oz, where flaring flames, a booming voice and a disembodied head command attention, while unseen hands pull levers behind an unobtrusive curtain.

They’re making you question your sanity (and other people’s) and feel so spacey and overwhelmed.  This month their pressure becomes multi-directional, ricocheting from one point to another. The powerhouses have been been amping up the middle degrees of Gemini (hence the high noise-to-signal ratio and running from one shiny object to another). That spot is being filled early in the month by the Sun and Venus, which complete the grand cross. Their addition fleshes out the every-which-way mix with the general tone of the times and relationships, money, creativity and all we value, the areas of life Venus rules.

The energy of the grand cross locks into the Gemini New Moon on June 4. When Mercury fills the Gemini position June 20-22, the cross permeates the chart of the summer solstice on June 20, which carries the resonance of the tension throughout the summer as well. That day is action packed, most especially with the the year’s second Sagittarius Full Moon, at the sign’s last degree, occurring just before the solstice. That Moon has a kick of finality, with Mars ending his retrograde and month-long camp-out on the final degree of Scorpio on June 29.

Pro Tip: Have mercy on anyone with placements in the middle degrees of the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. For them, this weird journey is intensely, sometimes painfully personal.

Even on June’s strangest days, Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” is wafting on the breeze, if you still yourself enough to detect it. (All together now: “Everything little thing gonna be alright.”) Much will feel fated, headed in an optimal direction, or inexplicably okay, whether you can point to any tangible evidence to support the feeling.

L ikely you will see evidence, though. That’s the gift of the grounding, stabilizing sanity-bringing influence of an unimpeded flow between beneficial Jupiter and Pluto, agent of unavoidable change. They’ve been paving the way out of the chaos and upheaval that Uranus and Pluto have been stirring up over the past four years. The pair is making the last of three big assists (the others happened in September and March). Just what they’ve been building will become clearer by September.

Find an image of the Hanged Man in a Tarot deck of your choosing and use it as your inspirational icon for the month. Think of this month as an initiation. You’re being suspended above the action, unable to steer or force it. There’s a certain freedom in that; relax into it and stop asking how certain things are going to happen. The elevated vantage point also offers the gift of a panoramic view, which puts data in your field of vision that escaped you earlier.

By month’s end, transcendence is possible. Or magic. Or feeling unspeakably, blissfully moved, as Venus and Neptune bridge earthly and heavenly love. Hearts are opening. When Mercury enters Cancer on the 29th, emotions can’t help but pour out.

Forecast for May 2016

“Relax, don’t do it, when you want to go to it.” — Relax, Frankie Goes to Hollywood

When time slows to a crawl this month or, worse, life renders you motionless and you find yourself wishing for movement, action, anything, please remember the mania of March and April. And count your blessings.

Which is not to say that May won’t be hopping, at times. It will, so much so that you will have moments of gasping for breath and begging for a break. When one comes around (and opportunities will abound May 7 – 13), take it and indulge, shamelessly. Otherwise, stock up on stamina, pacing, being in the now — all are qualities that serve you well in May’s singular energies.

Progress is occurring, just not in a predictable or forward-ho manner. The biggest instances of growth and movement will come from matters returning for revisiting, revising, fleshing out and simply more attention. They dominate the first third of the month, when the uncommonly high number of five planets is retrograde.

Even as that count begins to lessen (with Jupiter stationing direct on May 11), the retrospective, redoing vibe remains. Its benefits are many. Going back over old turf or reviving old matters allows for redoing, repairing, rearranging, improving and catching information, details and nuances that make a difference. Dig in the same spot long enough and you may hit paydirt, or discover buried treasure, or strike oil. Or maybe just remove debris that’s crowding out new growth.

Opportunities to solidify, ground and let nature take its course abound around the Taurus New Moon on May 6. It creates an unimpeded current of practical, tangible, growth-oriented earth energy running from the New Moon to bountiful Jupiter in Virgo and transformative Pluto in Capricorn. The effect lasts the whole moon cycle, and spills over into social and financial matters when Venus takes the Moon’s position May 9 and 10.

The line-up is a cosmic invitation to lounge in the garden of life. Enjoy the physical sustenance and pleasures it offers. Look for signs of growth, flourishing and even harvest, and give yourself over to the sensations. Think of yourself as a spiritual being having a physical existence (you’ve heard that saying, right?), or a bridge between spirit and matter. Put your attention on the here and now, and revel in it.

Life slides focus to here and there by the Sun’s annual move to Gemini on the 20th and the Sagittarius Full Moon the next day, with action hero Mars retreat’s taking him right into the festivities. No happy-go-lucky Sag party, this one;we’ll be defending beliefs, or acting aggressively on them or otherwise living out the phrase “fighting words.”

The backward trend will not noticeably loosen until Mercury goes direct on the 22nd. (Read what this month’s Mercury retrograde bodes here.) Despite communication and travel matters gradually returning to more familiar contours, the vibe of going back over old territory will only intensify from the 27th through next month, when  Mars backs into the murky depths of Scorpio.

Before he changes sign, his partner Venus leaves home for a flit-and-flirt-fest in Gemini and has a staring contest with him on the 24th. This face-off drives home the distance between desires and achieving them. He takes that awareness along on his Scorpio mission, which explores loose ends from last summer, when Saturn retrograded over the same turf. Think of it as a clean-up crew in military gear, with tactical weapons, surgical tools and steely determination to tackle whatever they encounter.

The end of the month brings awareness into focus in other ways as well. Rules and limitations mushroom to the point that we address them, thanks to a harsh contact between Jupiter and Saturn, which crests on May 26. Our thought processes and information flow clarify dramatically by the 30th, when Mercury gets an effortless assist from Pluto. The point of Mercury’s retrograde becomes clear (or some of it, at least). Thinking and priorities streamline. Important information comes to consciousness; significant conversations occur. Perhaps empowering, perhaps delimiting, and definitely transforming and simplifying.

Forecast for April 2016

Keep your knees loose. Anything can happen this April, and it might lead to whiplash. Just when you’re sprung from prison and catapulting into wild adventure, back you go again and again  over territory you thought you’d finished.

Two shifts at the month’s start presage these counter currents. Our interacting style turns impulsive, impassioned and a tad reckless as Venus, ruler of love, money and all we value, turns huntress in Aries on April 5. Everyone’s on the prowl, and the thrill of the chase is the game. Yet talk is slow, concrete and “prove it!” thanks to Mercury moving into Taurus on the same day. Venus inclines us to pounce, but Mercury says to take our time. No one’s going anywhere quickly, which could, actually, end up being just what Venus wants  — especially when she and lover Mars collaborate on the 12th.

Except that we are going places quickly, and how. Explosions are going off within and around us at the Aries New Moon on the 7th. It’s right next to volatile, unpredictable Uranus, and the combo  ignites dynamite at the individual, liberating end of the cosmic change imperative that’s been restructuring reality for the past four years. The blast sets off a breakthrough that’s been building — perspective-altering, catalyzing and self-actualizing. Look at the ensuing excitement as a coming attractions trailer for when Saturn brings grounding and stabilizing (and, okay, maybe limits) to Uranus, starting at Christmastime.

Enjoy flying high and running free; it lasts unfettered for a week, max. The skies are rerouting us to Retrograde City. We’re already at the outskirts at month’s start, with Jupiter and and Saturn backtracking through Virgo and Sagittarius. Three more planets join the trend from the 16th on. The combined impact has us singing variations on a song from The Monkees’ cult classic Head, “Do I Have to Do This All Over Again?”

Yep. Again and again. We’re returning to issues of education, beliefs, prejudices, legal matters, publicity and foreign people, places and things when Mars turns retrograde at 8 Sagittarius on April 16th. His retreat lasts until June 29 and takes him back into Scorpio starting May 2, when he’ll be triggering action on unfinished business from Saturn’s return to that territory last summer.  For now he’s inviting do-overs and picking up dropped threads — understanding, wisdom, credentials, chances to visit far-flung spots on the globe, seeing how much our perspective filters our experience of life. Watch for irritation, frustration, resentment and anger; look for opportunities to laugh or see the bright side.

Pluto begins his annual retrograde on April 18 at 17 Capricorn (making a harsh, action-demanding angle to the Aries New Moon). His impact is more nuanced, but inescapable, since he’ll move barely a degree until his direct station on September 26. Think of it as drilling deeper and deeper into one particular spot for a more intense, transforming experience. For each of us it has to do with restructuring foundations (the systemic end of the change imperative of the past four years). The potential exists to make even more basic and pervasive chance, to let in light or air, or to let out infestation.

While we’re walking and looking backwards, breakthroughs abound. They involve relationships, finances, self-worth and creativity thanks to Venus’ mid-month assignations. First she gets into a shoving match with bigger, fiercer, grittier ruler of desire and money, Pluto, on the 19th (when the Sun begins its annual time in Taurus). While she’s still hot and bothered, Venus has a long, hot date with firebrand Uranus. They’re conjunct by zodiacal degree and by declination April 22-24, and their tryst begins on the Scorpio Full Moon, the most intense, magnetic and intimate emotional culmination point short of an eclipse. The only sure prediction for what that  convergence will unleash is that it won’t be boring. Those days will have the quality of playing with firecrackers, leaping without thinking, much less looking, and hearts breaking free — or open.

Communication and getting around join the fun and games by the 28th, when cosmic messenger Mercury goes retrograde until May 22.  Slow and steady becomes outright slothlike. Expect discussions and commutes to take much longer than the norm (and possibly what uninformed patience can endure). The beauty of living as if suspended in time is that if you gaze long and hard at what’s before you, you could possibly truly see it.  Use this chaser retrograde to go over and pick up details and put your mind, technology and vehicles in reliable working order. Also know that if Venutian impulsiveness brings cause for regret, Mercury retrograde in Taurus provides ample time to chew on the situation and devise a practical response that requires no rush to implement. Forecast for the 2016 Pisces New Moon Solar Eclipse

March 8-9, 2016
18 Pisces 55
5:54 PM PST / 8:54 PM EST / 1:54 AM GMT

This year’s Pisces New Moon is a game changing pivot point. No one is merely turning on the ball of the foot and moving ahead in any kind of neat and orderly fashion, though. We are being engulfed by a tidal wave. It’s carrying us to shores we can’t make out clearly and bringing certain people and situations along for the journey while washing others out to sea.

The monumental impact comes from this being the year’s first eclipse. It’s a solar, on the Virgo/Pisces axis, which brings issues of habits, health, service, boundaries and interconnectedness up for revisiting and rebooting. The current cycle is our first recurrence of eclipses from March 1997 through September 1998. Looking back to that time is useful, because themes and issues you are encountering now build on the experiences you had during those years.

We have reached the middle of the current cycle, which began with the Pisces New Moon solar eclipse on the first day of spring 2015 and continues until February 2017. Though solar eclipses always launch — or at least, facilitate — forward motion, they always come with endings and departures, as certain givens and factors leave the scene that don’t jibe with the forward thrust.

Think of it as a set change during a play:  The lights go out, the crew moves scenery in and out, cast members exit and enter, and the lights come up to reveal the next scene’s set up and characters.  In this scenario, though, the lights aren’t coming up to full with any speed. The playing out will occur over months. It’s possible the new parameters may not be entirely clear until fall.

Part of that comes from the potential this event has for overwhelm, particularly for people with the Sun or other major placements in mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). With bigger-is-better Jupiter challenging the New Moon and amplifying the North Node (the path of the future), tiny currents quickly escalate into tsunamis. This results in conversations going from present circumstances to platforms for all manner of ghosts and stories and memories and bubblings up from psyches and weird dreams. (Speaking of which, dreams are off the charts because of this. Write them down. A pattern could emerge that cracks a problem for you. Or provides the basis for a screenplay.)

Other people’s problems could also trigger tidal waves. Be on the lookout for energy vampires — or emotional Ninjas, as a friend delightfully put it — who suck you in, usually with how much they need you, then flood your borders and overwhelm your schedule, energy and sanity with their crises. You can’t fix an emotional black hole. You can either tumble into it and lose control of yourself, or reinforce your boundaries, or steer clear altogether. If you find yourself being consumed by someone else’s drama, pain, unsolvable problems, whatever, please hit the pause button. Remind yourself how many times you’ve heard/witnessed/tried to help all this before. Draw a magic circle around yourself and your precious, surprisingly finite energy. Banish anything that’s not yours from the circle. Then reinforce and safeguard it.

The water’s churning, the rolling waves, the pressures and the overwhelm are forcing awareness of and commitment to what is truly yours, especially in terms of what you believe. The New Moon and Jupiter are forming a t-square to Saturn in Sagittarius, a dynamic configuration with multiple effects just now. It’s accelerating and amplifying thoughts, talk and the noise level in general. It’s bombarding us with and drowning us in other people’s opinions, perspectives, prejudices, issues and agendas. (Take periodic breathers from the news and social media. Please.)

And when push comes to shove, when some huge force slams you against the clock and the limits of your energy, you will instinctively know, in an instant, what is most important to you and where you have to claim dominion. (Your inspirational image for this portion of the eclipse energies is the Emperor in the Tarot.) With your own emotional issues cresting and flowing out, your own journey surging into rough magic, you do not have the luxury of wasting time or resources. You are being called upon to take responsibility for what you believe, to bring your beliefs and how you live your life into alignment and to — get ready for a notion that is in alarming short practice — be one of the adults in the room. (Since order-loving Saturn in Sagittarius also represents the legal system, this dynamic is also forcing our political system to move from past ways into a new paradigm. Seen any of that in the news?)

Some of this will come easily; some will encourage thrashing and flailing and indulging in victimhood or martyrdom. Yawn. You’ve grown too much in recent years to allow yourself to regress for long. And fighting the waters only leads to futile grasping, gasping for breath and going under. Trying to make sense of them is about as pointless. A lot of what is surfacing or steering is anything but rational and explicable these days. A lot is just plain bonkers, actually. (Use the Moon card from the Tarot as a guiding image.) Ride the waves as much as you can. Or dive through them, like kids do at the shore.

Some of the departures will be surprising (and the goings, too), some emotional and some bittersweet. All bring, ultimately, relief, balm and healing. This effect is particularly great on pain that has been with you for so long that it is part of the fabric of your being. That comes from the New Moon’s honor guard: Chiron, bringer of healing and mastery of physical existence, and the South Node of the Moon, a mathematical point that represents the behavior we came in with or resort to under stress.

They are drenching us in awareness of our ancient and abiding wounds, as well as the pain of all humanity. The potential is here to soothe and even heal wounds of crippling enmeshment, taking the fall for others, abandonment and the illusion of isolation. (Soundtrack for this portion of the influences:  “You Are Not Alone” from the Stephen Sondheim musical “Into The Woods.”) The way of the future, and the wake of this eclipse, involves healthier, more intact boundaries, attitudes and habits

Embrace and work with this wild process. Actively toss items overboard, fearlessly and lovingly. Communication is already in a gentle, telepathic mode, with Mercury in Pisces and heading for a meeting with Neptune later this week. Venus, ruler of our sociability, will soon be in Pisces herself, making compassionate, tender, downplayed, if sometimes backhanded approaches absolutely organic. Endings don’t have to be nasty; they can be kind and sweet. And endings are all around, thanks to the Libra lunar eclipse coming in two weeks to slam many a relationship chapter shut.

As varied as the activity is now and will be through the fall, one constant runs through it all. Everything points to the way out of the turmoil of the past four years. Replacement foundations, supports and structures have been increasingly coming into view and taking shape. With exact links to the culprits, cosmic change agents Uranus and Pluto, this New Moon has the power to wash away more of the rubble and facilitate the new.

As befits a Moon ruled by the lord of illusion, pertinent navigational advice comes from a movie, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.” As arecent widow named Evelyn Greenslade (played by Judi Dench) observes a few weeks into her first visit to India, “Initially you’re overwhelmed. But gradually you realize it’s like a wave. Resist, and you’ll be knocked over. Dive into it, and you’ll swim out the other side.”

Learn how this fits into the rest of the year in my astro-overview for 2016.

Forecast for March 7 – 13, 2016

We’re all riding the waves. Some companions, situations and longstanding issues are going under or washing out to sea. Your own journey is too healing, too emotionally cathartic and too magical for tears to last long. Or come at all. Love is the drug. Love is the opening door. Love is all you need. Starting with yourself.

Forecast for March 2016

March is a game changer. It launches with words and ideas kicking us into action and ends with desires and perspectives blowing wide open. In between is a combination tsunami and whirlwind of activity, emotional, mental and in the circumstances of our lives. Comings and goings, blossomings and endings, cleaning up and clearing out consume the month. In their wake they leave a blend of catharsis, relief, emotional outpouring and firm resolve. And likely spinning heads.

Not surprisingly, March is one of the most astrologically action-packed months of the year. Its four weeks contain two eclipses (one pumping the gas pedal on a cycle, the other wrapping a cycle up), more work on the upheaval of the last four years, and three planets changing signs.
Amid so much activity, each beat will be hard to distinguish. Instead, it will feel like we’re being hit with successive waves. Some of them grow out of the previous one, some are resurgences of the past (eight months, a year, 18 months, four years and 19 years ago are probable time frames), and some will come from places our conscious mind has no ability to pinpoint.

The Pisces New Moon on the 8th is the first eclipse, a solar.  Bigger-is-better Jupiter and Chiron, influence of healing, are in the mix. They’re making emotions, boundary and underdog issues and longstanding wounds crest into tsunamis, washing away some people and situations while depositing or anointing others.

Although the waters are surging and receding for weeks, the ebb tides reveal surprisingly stable ground. Jupiter is making the second of three assists to Pluto, the agent of unavoidable change. (The other two were last September and will be again in June.) Their teamwork is beaming right into the construction zone you know as the areas of your life that have undergone utter upheaval in the past four years.

The effect is two-sided. On the positive end, new or rebuilt structures are taking on more solid contours. Supports are sinking deeper. On the less immediately pleasant end, Jupiter’s golden light is reaching deeper into cracks that have opened up in recent years. No end of frightened and frightening psychological beasties are crawling to the surface. (Just look at the news, and behavior on social media.) Watch for stirrings,  of your own, of your friends’, and neutralize the beasties gently. “I wish you all the love and happiness I wish for myself” is a useful mantra. Say it even if you don’t mean it. To yourself, of course. Voicing that to someone’s face could get you punched, in the current climate.

Chapters are closing in relationships, our attitudes toward them and our operating ground rules with the second eclipse, the Libra Full Moon on the 23rd. All have been up for resetting and rebooting since October 1993. Since then we’ve reached increasing awareness of compromises and settling that can not continue. Even with the adjustments we’ve already made or experienced, with this lunar eclipse come decisive strikes underscored with “And I really mean it!”

Throughout all of this, logic is hardly the navigational system. Mercury, the planet the rules our thoughts, words and how we get around, unhooks all of his terrain from the rational and concrete when he travels through Pisces from February 5-21. Telepathy, impressions and osmosis will abound. They’ll carry more reliability than anything you read, hear or see.  When they contradict empirical evidence, trust them.

Starting with the 21st, communication and transportation shift to Aries and leap first, think later mode. Though more more energetic, bold and decisive than Pisces, this mode is another flavor of intuition and instinct, going on gut rather than thinking about and evaluating evidence and plans of action.

We get a foretaste of this forceful, aggressive potential at the month’s start, when Mercury slams into Mars, lord of war and the ruler of Aries, and shoves minds, mouths and tempers into action. That same day, March 5, Mercury heads for Pisces (see above) and Mars enters Sagittarius. Agendas, motivations and drives become more energetic and fiery. Optimism and humor are on the rise, but so are jingoism (“My way or the highway”) and arguing over politics and theories. Physical activity is a safe outlet.

Fortunately, our hearts are not gearing up for battle. Venus, goddess of love, money and creativity, is moving into Pisces, the sign of higher love and her exaltation, on the 12th. This shift stirs a potential for compassion, kindness and gentleness, an awareness of others (some call that empathy), and an appreciation of the arts, romance and other escapes from mundane reality.

She tells Mars what she wants in no uncertain terms on the 14th. (Sparks fit for a screwball comedy could fly!) On the 20th, she dissolves in blissful communion with Pisces’ ruler Neptune.   What she wants — and, by extension, what we’re looking for — mushrooms and demands satisfaction on the 25th, the very day that Saturn goes retrograde. Between then and his turnaround mid-August, we’ll be researching and tying up loose ends (perhaps legalities) to bring those desires into tangible form. An opportunity to get a taste of them opens on the 26th.

More importantly, her Piscean cloaking bodes well for coming through this month’s tumult decently, civilly and even lovingly. Let love for all beings guide your actions (say it even if you choke on it, please), and let that love begin with yourself. Exude that and endings will proceed with less rancor, while the new beginnings and blossoming of next stages will be all the more sweet.
