Astrology Forecast for the 2015 Capricorn Full Moon

July 1-2, 2015
7:19 PM PDT / 10:19 PM EDT / 2:19 AM GMT
9 Cancer 55 / 9 Capricorn 55

Reality As We Know It is suddenly, startlingly, drastically morphing to carry out the change imperative that has been mounting for the past three years. While shifts continue to erupt and propel us forward, the Capricorn Full Moon offers a status report filled with information about their impact on our emotions and sense of security.

The focus of the examination is our bottom line, but that doesn’t mean the exercise is cold or quiet. Even with the Moon in stern, calculating, goal-fixated Capricorn, emotions are deep and passionate. Aggressive, protective instincts have kicked in. Fierce desires have come to light. So have ugly, frightened beasties — hate, paranoia, panic and the terror of sheer survival at stake. A bottle has come uncorked. Whatever is now on the loose — maybe a genie, maybe not — it is not going back in.

The next big phase of existence is already here. Last week’s groundbreaking social and political developments demonstrated that dramatically. (Did it ever cross your mind that the Confederate flag would come down? Mine neither.) The shifts are not only collective, of course. Your own life has catapulted onto a different platform as well. This week throws emotional reflection into the mix, as we continue to experience — and come to grips with — the ongoing reshuffling, reorganizing and rearranging.

It may help to reframe your current reactions as a cost/benefit analysis. Are you getting a return that has sufficient value to you on the time/energy/emotions/sweat/money you are putting into any given situation? Is it leading in a direction that you want to go? Does it feel good or right or safe to continue the investment, or would it be better to cut your losses now?

That line of analysis reflects a theme that is with us all summer, as Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn, slides back into the late degrees of resource-conscious Scorpio. The lord of rules and order demands responsible action (rewards it when it happens and imposes consequences when it does not). He is currently encouraging taking a deep breath, being an adult and dealing with potentially serious or costly loose ends from 2013-2014. They involve all manner of potentially messy, often private issues: joint finances (including splitting them, in divorce or via child support), debt, taxes, sex, trust and acting from integrity (or, at the other end, cloaking, lying or subterfuge).

Signs of how you feel about all this are rampant under the Capricorn Full Moon. Do you feel supported? Rewarded? Undermined? Betrayed? In shock? Up in arms? Determined to move on? Wherever you fall on the spectrum, and that will vary situation by situation, the emotions will end up being clarifying and, ultimately, motivating.

That’s because the two planets associated with our drive, will and actions, Mars and Pluto, are standing as honor guard to the Sun and the Moon as the luminaries reflect each other. Mars in Cancer was the last planet the Sun and Moon contacted before becoming full. All his tendencies in that sign inform the Full Moon: tender, clucking, protective behavior toward the tribe and its traditions (with the legal concept of family lately redefined); taking things personally; acting and reacting out of heightened sensitivity, hurt feelings, or just plain pissiness.

That’s the propellant of the immediate past. The near future brings more profound and decisive emotions and action, which play out over about a week. Thank the other bookend Pluto, the first body the Sun and the Moon will contact after separating. The Moon will cross over Pluto within hours; the Sun will oppose it next Monday, July 6.

This journey underscores the personal, emotional and long-term ramifications of the fundamental restructuring that has happened in our foundations. Influences are at work that are far outside conscious command, in both directions, from instinctive, cellular coding to utterly nonrational impulses to forces greater than any mortal will.

Desires and fears will be equally strong. Watch for behavior that reveals what’s going on below the surface in you and in others. Nothing is trivial. Breaks and rifts will occur that may not be mendable. And maybe that’s the point. Action hero Mars is exactly squaring the Nodes of the past and future, a dynamic aspect that pushes us to choose sides and march forward on our paths.  We could make swift, clean breaks that remove obligations and goals that are not really ours, or that would not deliver an appropriate return on investment for this stage of our lives.

Hang on to the positive potential. This Full Moon is lighting up plenty of it. Jupiter, the sky’s most optimistic and beneficent influence, and Venus, ruler of all we hold dear, are making a link to Uranus that has opened surprising possibilities. Some you’ve long wanted, some you never dared hope for, and all heartfelt to an extreme. They are the silver lining. They are the areas that will flourish because of any refocusing and eliminating that occurs now.

Some of it will even have a heaven-sent or meant-to-be streak. Neptune, the planet of higher love (and transcendence, and illusion, and, yes, delusion) is making an exact, cooperative link to the Full Moon. This encourages marshaling the tender, nurturing potential of Mars in Cancer and acting with gentleness and love for all concerned. It facilitates invoking the bravery of Mars,  Pluto’s fearlessness in the face of death, and Saturn’s preference for stepping up to responsibilities, and behaving cleanly, maturely and courageously.

Let emotions pour. (Cancers are having quite the time right now; be kind.) Be honest with yourself about your reactions and what they mean for your goals. Then act. Honestly, responsibly, lovingly.

2015 Sagittarius Full Moon

June 2, 2015
11 Gemini 49 / 11 Sagittarius 49
9:18 AM PDT / 12:18 PM EDT / 4:18 PM GMT

What do you believe to be true about yourself, your possibilities and the world at large? The Sagittarius Full Moon is igniting impassioned action, reaction and rebellion that further some of those beliefs — and break free of others.

It’s an intellectual Moon, in theory. In practice, this one is volatile and emotional to an extreme. It’s bringing us back to life from the pummeling we’ve been through from March until last week. A lot’s pent up within us, and emotional realizations and eruptions, positive and otherwise, are turning that complex, pent-up blend into rocket fuel under this Moon. The fuel ignites a burst this week and continues inspiring us, motivating us and egging us on for the next three weeks.

This Full Moon is both a summing up of that pummeling and a warm-up for what we’re going to do about it. In the summing up part, take the emotions cresting now as feedback about the past three months. If you’re frustrated and fed up, for example, your perspective or frame of reference likely played a role. You may have hit the end of the line (think newscaster Howard Beale in Network, bellowing “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it.”) In a more positive vein, you could be ready to move away from the pummeling and foundation crumbling and head for more expansive horizons.

As for the warmup, this Full Moon is pumping up the fiery flow between its ruler Jupiter, the most expansive force in the sky, and Uranus, the agent of unpredictable change. Jupiter and Uranus are moving into the third and last of three trines activating the freedom-seeking, self-actualizing end of the Uranus/Pluto square (which has rocked us since summer 2012). The final trine will be exact on June 22 (in time to stamp its impact on the chart for the summer), but we’re feeling it already. Energy is coursing and coursing through us  — life force, anger, passion, drama, incentive, Popeye’s spinach; use whatever label(s) you prefer. The fieriness is stoking confidence, boldness and an unquestioning drive to blaze forward into new approaches, projects and structures.

Adding to the motivation is Mars, planet of action, standing just ahead of the Sun. He’s the first planet that the Moon and the Sun will contact after their meeting, and that impending touch adds to the accelerated, talkative character of this Full Moon. He’s also whipping up the grandiose breakout action, through a cooperative link to Jupiter and Uranus (in Mars’ home sign of Aries and therefore under the warrior god’s command). His participation encourages thought, talk, movement, assertiveness, aggression and the willingness to shake things up.

The combination is ideal for tossing out tolerations and rewriting beliefs, world views or ways of thinking that bring you pain or imprison you.  (Caitlyn Jenner’s debut on the cover of Vanity Fair is one dramatic example.) On a larger scale, this Full Moon is escalating issues of intolerance, prejudice (pre-judging), racism, legal and political philosophies, and all things foreign (people, places, cultures, languages, religions). Some of those may be calling on you personally as well. Chiron’s hard angle to the Full Moon is calling for compassion and finding commonality simply in being human.k. This is not a time to live small or scale back, at least on the level of theory. Dream big. Fly high. Take huge risks. You have everything to gain, most especially yourself.

Forecast for May 2015

May is a month of emotional immersion and mental diversion. We’ll be exploring the extremes of both, sometimes pinging back and forth between them, sometimes finding ourselves in both at once. The peculiar mix sends us, by month’s end, into a spa for the soul, where the waters pour out love and acceptance of the self.

No matter how dark the first days may feel, remember that a therapeutic process is at work. Unpleasant thoughts, fears and impulses fly through minds and out of mouths during the long weekend that launches the month. The Scorpio Full Moon (on the 2nd) is normally a trigger for the darker side of emotional experiences. This year’s model comes with a jumble of uncomfortable influences that produce frustration, roadblocks, resistance, more inner growth (great, right?) and all manner of emotional backwash coming off the last two months.

A personality disintegration may be in store for some of us. If one happens in front of (or to) you, let it flow out, even if it scares you. Putting up a front and soldiering on has been exhausting; falling apart, or acting like a squalling infant, or simply admitting to yourself how you feel all lead to relief and a huge personal growth spurt, and sooner than you might dare hope.

Once the moon and its aftermath are behind us, the rest of the month is a blend of water and air, emotions and intellect, focus on nurturing and multitasking like demons. Social interactions take on a clucking, nesting, “let me feed you” tint as Venus, ruler of relationships, money and creativity, moves into home-loving Cancer on the 7th.  Don’t be fooled by the apron, though. While she’s baking cookies, fluffing pillows and kissing boo-boos, she’s looking at the long haul (including in cold financial terms) and waiting for the tables to turn and someone to take care of her.

Ambivalence kicks in quickly, though, with her armored knight Mars lifting off into Gemini on the 11th. Part of us wants to stay in the kitchen licking the beaters, while another part wants to go outside and play with pals. Energy lightens and speeds up; our drive and motivation zoom this way and that, chasing after information in conversations and online, running errands with abandon, and juggling more tasks in a day than we had the inclination to deal with in a week during the winter.

Mars hits turbulence in his first few days chasing bright shiny objects. Power struggles and another round of less than rational impulses are probable mid-month, cresting in a roadblock that encourages retreat and rethinking. The solution, however, lies outside the brain. Higher guidance,  an act of faith, intervention bordering on angelic, maybe even magic all abound when Venus makes a lovely, flowing link to Neptune on the 16th. That’s a red letter day as well for artistry and relationships. Enjoy, however briefly, the sensation of heaven on earth.

Still, the Kumbaya moment has an underlying nervousness, pushing people to action and risk taking. That energy is the opposite of what the Taurus New Moon is calling for on the 17th. Watch for more of more of that atmospheric ambivalence. The earthiest of moons weighs in with Venus in the kitchen and has us all reaching for our particular brand of comfort food and sharing it with others. Our minds, in contrast, are not only zipping around with Mars but gearing up to travel through time and space.

That’s due to Mercury stationing for his next retrograde, which begins on May 18, the day after the New Moon, and continues through June 11. During this stretch, communication and transportation requires (or demands) particular attention. Because Mercury is in his home sign of Gemini, which rules gab, getting around and gadgets, the very aspects of life prone to going flooey, this retrograde is likely to be more active, snarled and every which way than most.

Go into this retrograde with eyes wide open. Double check information; allow extra time when traveling; look for dropped threads and unfinished business. (Read more in my guide Handling a Mercury Retrograde.) It’s not all crazy-making, however. This one promises to be hugely productive and clarifying by the end of the month.

The desire to run free gets another boost when the Sun begins its annual trip through Gemini on May 20. Not so fast, though. His journey begins with a tractor beam pulling at our cells, as desire and money planets Venus and Pluto have a standoff that makes a craving feel oh so out of reach. (Which, of course, makes it oh so much more appealing.)

The standoff gives way to major rocking and rolling the last week of the month. Light bulbs pop; lightning bolts rain down; attitudes shift and break and with them all manner of stalemates and unforeseen openings. “Illusion vs. Reality” is a theme, and we’ll either be clearing up clouds of confusion/delusion/deceit or finding ourselves engulfed in them. Love may well win out, in the truest sense: not as in a Lifetime movie, but in its purest essence:  forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, grace.  Many a longstanding wound will find comfort and balm. The place of greatest healing is internal, as usual. You could make peace with yourself, with being on this planet in a human existence and, possibly, even with God.

Any semblance of being at war with yourself is gone by the 27th, when retrograde Mercury meets up with Mars. This fusion is more than a signal to walk your talk. Mind and will are so at one that thought leads immediate to action. Stumble on to information, as you will no doubt because of the retrograde process, and you aren’t likely to mull it over. You’ll be off and running.

The path ahead isn’t flat and manicured. It has holes that could trip you, and bits of rotting wood and maybe evidence of vermin. (Maybe vermin in the flesh as well.) Weird metaphoric fog could make you feel as if you’re making your way through a dream. Keep going. By the 30th, the journey brings you heightened awareness of yourself. Hang tight to that when more fog rolls in on the 31st. You have what it takes to navigate.
