Forecast for August 31 – Sept. 6, 2015

Venus’ retrograde is coming to a close, and with it the revisiting and rediscovery we’ve been doing of people, places and things that were once dear. And some that still are. And some that newly are. Before she goes direct, Venus has a hot date with Mars that shows what you really want – and are willing to go after. Listen to their dance music.

2015 Pisces Full Moon

2015 Pisces Full Moon

August 29, 2015

11:35 AM PDT / 2:35 PM EDT / 6:35 PM GMT

6 Pisces 6

The Pisces Full Moon is a combination waking dream, party and mini-vacation, marking not only the end of summer, but also the winding down of years of upheaval. It’s an escape from what has come before, and a breather before we get to the work of the fall.

cruise-778537_1280

Any Pisces Full Moon unhinges us from ordinary boundaries between individuals, and between us and mundane reality, time and space. We experience greater than usual awareness of our interconnectedness with other people and humanity in general — heightened empathy, compassion and love — and with the divine. We are more open to peak artistic experiences, to otherworldly inspiration and, let’s be honest, to countering rational thought with drink, drugs and entertainment.

This year’s model is more extreme than the usual. One reason is that the ruler of Pisces, Neptune, ruler of magic and illusion, is in the thick of the party, right at the Moon’s side, which makes his cosmic-fog machine influence all the greater. This influence is being egged on (reason number two) by more-more-more Jupiter, standing by the Sun. Jupiter’s position is also whipping up the power of the Virgo Sun and the paradoxical counterpoint it poses to all that free-flowing Piscean energy:  escalating the drive to push for intactness against immersion in the All; heightening discretion and discernment in the midst of soaking up others’ emotions.

The combination is producing an unlikely cocktail of romanticism and objectivity. Tender emotions are escalating, dreamlike, transcendent, bittersweet, magical and woozy-making, while some part of us remains in observer mode watching them crest and ebb. We’re knowingly walking into situations outside of what passes for reality.  We’re in for a getaway with awareness of going back to work, pronto; a magic show we know full well is tricking us; a sentimental journey with an eyebrow raised; a taste of love with eyes wide open; empathizing with a person in pain while strategizing ways to ease it.

A lot of this has love in all its possibilities as a central theme. Romance is not necessarily involved (old friendships, other peoples, animals, family issues, for a few aberrations), but in many cases it is. The Venus retrograde in Leo has been summoning exes, ghostly visitations and musings on long-gone love, missed opportunities and might-have-beens, which are cresting under this Moon into to wistfulness, longing and regret. Compassion and healing are another potential, of course.

The prospect of actually realizing a connection, new or renewed, is also coursing through this Moon. It’s steaming with the passion and anticipation of cosmic lovers Venus and Mars hurtling toward their hot date on September 1. (Listen to my playlist to set the mood, or cheer them on.) The Full Moon might be putting the beloved in a spiritual light. Or elevating her/him to goddess/god-in-the-flesh status. Or cloaking the person in a glamour that may or may not be true to what’s underneath. Having observer mode on call will be handy; it’ll make possible keeping your eyes wide open while stars twinkle in them.

Watch for a cinematic quality in what washes up under this Full Moon.  Neptune’s illusions include the silver screen, and we could find life imitating art at times this weekend. “My Heart Goes On and On” will be the soundtrack for some of us. (That was on the Titanic, though, remember.) Some of us will end up in a Hot Tub Time Machine and revisit — possibly rewrite — history. Others of us are taking a cruise on the Love Boat, on which even aging singles just might hook up with the person of their dreams.  Still others may find themselves on Fantasy Island, where dream fulfillment might be for the moment, or might play out in a way that continues on the mainland afterward. And some of us will sidestep parallels to blockbusters or cheesy TV shows altogether and write their own scripts, with their own kind of music.

Enjoy the respite. Enjoy the escape. If you flirt with going overboard, let that observer side reel you back in. Or throw a lifeline. Or steer the boat alongside you until you get to shore.

Forecast for the 2015 Leo New Moon

August 14, 2015
7:53 AM PDT / 10:53 AM EDT / 2:53 PM GMT
21 Leo 30

Impulses that have been smoldering all summer catch fire with August’s Leo New Moon. The event takes influences from two overlapping cycles, rolls them into a fireball and hurtles them — and us — forward.

Under normal circumstances, the Leo Moon gives a boost to our egos, playfulness and need for recognition and attention. This time around, the Moon is not merely priming our inner spark. It is     pouring desire and willpower into that spark and catalyzing dramatic developments.

sparkler-677774_1280

The catalyst angle comes from the New Moon’s tight, easy flow to Uranus, cosmic agent provocateur. Pressures and impulses from the last three years, and from the end of June in particular, are catching fire. (Again.) This link imbues the New Moon with the radically liberating, individuating end of the change imperative that has rocked the foundations of our lives since 2012, as the unforeseeable and perspective-altering (Uranus) clashed with the unavoidable and transformational (Pluto).

This summer is taking us through a corridor between constant upheaval and the new platforms to come this fall. With this Moon, we’re hitting a section with tripwires, that will break us from remaining tendrils of the past and shoot us more and more toward our individual, distinct path.  The tripwires were set at the end of June (the exact date was the 27th, but the days on either side could also play a role). That’s when Jupiter warmed up the spot now being occupied by the Sun, Moon and Venus.

All of them are in an open flow with unpredictable, mind-blowing Uranus, which will continue for the Sun and Venus into next week. A spark from in late June will catch fire now. (The ends of last March and September may fuel the story line, too.)  The traveling flame will hit the end of the fuse and set off the dynamite. The next stage of the saga will erupt. Another shoe or five will fall. Another can of spinach will appear — a case of it, more likely — and send us into action, fast, furious and double-time.

That’s the first cycle pouring into this New Moon. The second involves the Moon’s desire and willpower combo. That comes from the New Moon’s planetary honor guard: Venus, ruler of all we desire and value (love, money, beauty, creativity), which has just crossed over the Moon and the Sun, and Mars, ruler of our drive, which is just inside the doorway to Leo. Venus is infusing the New Moon with what she wants (which is to say, what we want). Mars is gearing up to go after what she wants, in a high energy, compatible and ever so dramatic way. (Results are likely around September 1, when the cosmic lovers have a hot date.)

Recent events are molding that desire and willpower combo — what Venus is telling the Moon she wants, and the follow through to come from Mars. Some of those requests reflect experiences, realizations and changes of heart since July 25, when Venus began her current retrograde. She’s been taking us on a journey of self-rediscovery, through memories and reminders of — and contact with — people, places and things that were once important to us. Old friends, old loves, old jobs, old pastimes, old hangouts, old music, old haunts from childhood and teenage years — look at what has floated back onto your radar and into your life lately. Some have been welcome, some have been surprises, and all have brought back a taste of the way we were.

The visitations have turned up parts of yourself, maybe to remind you of how you once experienced life, maybe to come back in for reincorporating in some way. (The most beautiful example I’ve encountered is a friend going back to a secluded spot on a high school campus, where he used to sit and clear his mind before going onstage, and experiencing the same sensation of quiet and centering he had decades ago.)

All this information fuels the New Moon. There’s more to come, of course, as Venus continues her retrograde through the first weekend in September. For now, though, we have plenty to go on. We have an updated version of what we want. (Still in progress, sure, but the punch list is workable in its current state.) We have growing drive and motivation to go after it. With Uranus in the mix, who can say exactly where or how this New Moon will send us.

Triggers are coming at unexpected times, from unexpected sources, in unexpected ways. They’re firing in us and around us. They’re catapulting us further from the rubble of the past three years and toward the next stage in rebuilding our foundation. They’re awakening us to situations that invalidate us or interfere with our shining, and inspiring-to-infuriating us to head elsewhere. Another round of booster rockets are going off, dropping away, and sending our own little capsules further and further into the next adventure.

To work with this energy: Think about, then write down intentions for this phase. Specifically address either or both of the two cycles if you like (the past three years, particularly leading to the end of June, and the Venus retrograde this summer). Add fire to what you’ve written. Fold the paper and place it under a lit candle, or set fire to the paper.

Forecast for August 2015: The Summer of Love, Lust & Long Time, No See

August is a month of shifting sands. They bring reminders of the past, wake-up calls from unfinished business and hints of what’s to come this fall. It’s a definite, palpable time of transition, taking us from the upheaval of the last few years to the situations and structures growing out of it.

Think of this as summer break between semesters in school. Enjoy the moments of fun and catching up with friends, and deal decisively with the prep and clean-up work that comes up. As the month progresses, the atmosphere will shift from fixed to flexible and hurry us along.

It may feel at times as if you are reliving multiple summers at once, what with the memories, artifacts and old friends floating across your radar. They’re answering the call of Venus’ retrograde in Leo (through September 6), which is summoning reminders of much that was important to you, once upon a time: old flames, friends, and people who were a bit of both; talents and pastimes; jobs; even belongings, clothing and toys.

However the visitations come — in dreams, in memories, in old, old songs, in conversation or social media posts, in actual physical contact — welcome and explore them. Flirt, play and reacquaint yourself. They contain lasting treasure: parts of yourself that have slipped out of time present.

As for anything else or more … the jury’s out till fall. Some connections will heat and heat to the point of blazing, especially as Venus and Mars head for their hot date on September 1. This will be true not just of dormant links coming back for a redo, but also of current ones exploring new forms. (The heat goes on when Mars enters Leo on August 8; August 19-21 is ripe for breakouts.) Just remember that things are not entirely as they seem. Some hot and heavy linkups are going to turn serious but fast when the temperature begins to drop, outdoors and otherwise.

I’ve put together a playlist for the Venus retrograde on Spotify. Please to enjoy! And let me know if you have suggestions for me to consider adding.

That’s the pleasant side of the retrograde. There’s another, of the “take your medicine; it’s good for you” variety. Venus is making a hard link to consequence-oriented Saturn, at the end of the sign of Scorpio as well as his time in that sign for the next 28 years or so. The clash is a formula for metaphoric house cleaning, emphasis on tasks left over from Saturn’s visit to Scorpio in 2013-2014. This planetary link has a deep, deep dredging effect. It’s airing nasty, unpleasant, unwelcome secrets, including ones we have kept from ourselves. It’s forcing a reevaluation of costs, investments and return, as well as a balancing of accounts. Whatever pops up for you, face it with all the maturity and follow-through you can muster. The baggage clearing will free to you enjoy summer (and time travel) all the more, and make you ever so much lighter on your feet when the serious movement gets underway.

Look for that to mount as planets parade out of fixed, fiery Leo into dispassionate, boundary-conscious Virgo. The information and transportation flow is the first beneficiary, after Mercury moves into that sign, his summer home, on the 7th. When Jupiter begins his one-year stay there on the 11th, the air takes on a sobriety and practicality that foreshadows the fall. A back-to-school, back-to-work vibe amps up when the Sun follows on the 23rd, so strong we may forget that Labor Day hasn’t happened yet.

There’s still summer fun remaining to be had, though. The Virgo emphasis will provide useful discernment and maneuverability as the focus on relationships (or one special one) intensifies at month’s end. We’ll be thinking and talking about them with grace and ease, thanks to Mercury moves into Relationship Central, aka Libra, on the 27th. The cap of the retrograde, the month and the summer comes on the last day. All that remains is for Mars to head for Venus, as she’s backing into his path. Sounds like a dance. It’ll feel like one, too.

Astrology Forecast for the 2015 Aquarius Full Moon

2015 Aquarius Full Moon
July 31, 2015
3:42 AM PDT / 5:32 AM EDT / 10:42 AM GMT
7 Leo 55 / 7 Aquarius 55

Where do you fit in the new scheme of things? The Aquarius Full Moon delivers a status report on what all the recent changes mean for you and your pack — and motivates you to express your boldest self, no holding back.

As with any Full Moon, this event brings a culmination of feelings and developments that have been in process.  This summer we’ve started to see possibilities and benefits opening up in the aftermath of three years of structures collapsing around and under us.  Much of the new regime is still up in the air — not quite taking shape, not yet delivering substance we can rely on, not yet landing on the ground.

Some may hit a construction milestone under this Full Moon. Whether your outer circumstances change much at all, though, your inner journey promises to be a wild one. It’s releasing hooks, both known and unsuspected, and prompting, yea even daring you to act on your feelings, act on your dreams and do something to pull sone of those possibilities into being.

The Full Moon is jacking up the radical, rebellious, individuating end of the recent cosmic change imperative and making it highly, uniquely personal.  Aquarius may in theory be a detached and intellectual placement for a Moon, but the table tilts coming under this particular one have the capacity for derring-do, passion, steaminess and, possibly, pissiness.

This comes from a round robin of rulerships that pulls two planets into this Moon. The Moon is in Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, agent of unforeseeable, perspective-tilting change.  Uranus is in impulsive, free-agent Aries, which is ruled by Mars, the planet of push. And Mars is in sensitive, emotional, prone-to-take-things-personally Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon.  They’re connected like a Moebius strip, each leading inextricably to the other.

The linking makes for visceral, forceful, startling and unpremeditated action. Well, unpremeditated at that particular instance, maybe. Odds are great the notion will have been stewing and stewing for some time.

Friends, organizations and wishes figure prominently in many of the areas of focus, as well as the triggering events. You’re discovering how you really feel about some of them, and then acting on that awareness.

In some cases this means separating from a friend or a group or, more likely, embracing the realization that you have already separated. (You’re in the first wave of processing data coming off retrograde Venus squaring Saturn in Scorpio, which is smoking out secrets, missing pieces and rectified balance sheets from all manner of past or longtime connections.) In other cases it means a sudden leap into the future — recognizing a shiny brass ring and grabbing it, spying an opening and diving through it, seeing a Bat signal in the sky and showing up with cape billowing.

The deciding factor is your unique path. If a situation does not dovetail with that, breaking away is easy now. (Perhaps effortless, even necessary; situations might simply snap apart). (No pity parties, please.) Friends, groups and dreams that are in alignment will not only feel more right, but also trigger — and deliver — epiphanies and developments that inspire, catalyze and propel.

You’re blasting off. Yes, you’ve done this before, this summer even.  Every blast allows you to move more freely. This one is injected with triple-action fuel (like the sprays and powders with alleged supernatural powers). It facilitates processing all that has happened lately, pulls emotions out from logic and delivers a catalyst customized to you. Let it rip. It’s taking you ever further into yourself.

I’ve put together a short playlist on Spotify for the Aquarius Full Moon
