Falling! Forecast for October 1-7, 2012

How are you doing? Last week was an exciting, exhilarating, illuminating, jolting and sometimes terrifying ride. Tremors and shifts are abating but not going away. They’re pushing us, as the month ends, into a personal metamorphosis as profound as the outer ones that have been erupting all around.

Two major influences are overlapping and spawning this week’s atmosphere of relentless processing and adapting. Change agents Uranus and Pluto remain locked in combat (review last week’s forecast for what that’s about), while order-loving Saturn is in the last full week of his tour of duty in relationship-oriented Libra.

These two themes keep the predawn hours hopping all week long. Events, twists, changes and realizations have been coming at you at supersonic speed and continue to make their presence known in your sleep. Downtime isn’t so much rest as it is processing, while you update your internal operating system to match current conditions.

Remember that you can work with this. Ask for a dream to help you understand a situation, or to answer a question, or to show another way of looking at your matter of concern (an especially potent request, by the way). Add two requirements to your request: that you remember it, and that it use imagery that you understand. Look for hints, if not the answer itself, in your early thoughts the next morning, then note what else bubbles up in the next day or two.

Uranus and Pluto are serving as touchstones for our hearts, emotions and psyches, which are coming at the change agents from a variety of vantage points — sometimes comfortably, sometimes not. Increasingly, though, we are growing accustomed to the rifts, epiphanies, endings and new structures that are reshaping our worlds. We are also beginning to get the hang of the new order of life, a phrase that you will encounter again and again in the daily forecasts below.

You can help this along by literally letting go of the past: clearing out drawers, shelves, closets and files. With Uranus and Pluto still in harsh and direct contact, it’s appropriate to take an uncharacteristically ruthless approach. Don’t just purge items that no longer work or fit. Ditch ones that you would not have purchased at this point in your life — especially clothes (even if they’re in good shape), because what you wear is such a visible reflection of you. Get rid of objects that trigger unpleasant memories or associations. They might be just the ticket for a friend, or a neighbor (check out Freecycle), or a charity.

Some of that clearing out will touch on interpersonal connections. No matter where the explosions, eruptions and breakthroughs have been happening for your, this week highlights their impact on your relationships and agreements. Saturn is finishing up the relationship lab that he has been running since July 2010. It’s closing down in early October, not to return for 29 years.

The deadline’s approach is creating an air of urgency to tie up loose ends, put existing associations on renegotiated footing — or to rest — and handle all the related paperwork and legalities. Simultaneously, new matters and connections are ramping up, which will move into fuller form once Saturn slides into Scorpio next month.

Both ends of the spectrum are occupying our thoughts and conversations. Developments will go beyond the level of intellect, though; things are going to finally start happening. Venus and Mars, the archetypal female and male, rulers of our heart and our drive, see a lot of action this week, including a clinch of their own. Their square-off predawn Thursday has the power to stoke frustrated desires past the point of tolerance. The contact is motivating — pushing folks off fences and into action, blasting situations out of stuck places and sending of sparks like the verbal sparring that passed for foreplay in 1930s screwball comedies. If none of this plays out for you as the aspect is building Wednesday, check what (and who) is on your mind Thursday morning.

The change imperative swells again to a fevered pitch by Saturday, when the Aries Full Moon locks into Uranus and Pluto’s link. The line-up creates a dynamic configuration of a t-square, with Pluto in Capricorn bearing the brunt of the pressure. Resistance is futile; evolution is occurring, like it or not.

Odds are, you will. The Moon is right on top of Uranus, the unpredictable, uncontrollable radical (and genius) of the skies. Inner adolescents will be out in force, testing limits and demanding to be given the car keys. The call of the wild will be irresistible; so will the call of the new. Time to put down your pencils and turn in your assignments. Relationship lab is ending. Next up: special projects. And this Full Moon has you leaping from the first to the second. With gusto. More in my mooncast, which will be on the site by Friday.

Something’s About to Give: Forecast for September 10-19, 2012

Another round of radical, fundamental change is on its way. This week, we’re actively working with it. Embracing it, even.

The week begins and ends with aspects by the Moon to Uranus and Pluto, the two bodies gearing up for a fight, and whose protracted combat is shaking and reshaping landscapes inside and out. The combatants are still moving into place for their September 19 appointment (see <a href="“>last week’s forecast). We’re not at their mercy by any means, as the aspects bookending the week will demonstrate. In fact, lots of people are nor merely figuring out the personal ramifications of this clash, but reaping substantial benefits from it.

The benefits are coming in dazzling forms, better than a mortal mind could have imagined. Circumstances are falling into place that could not have been consciously engineered and that profoundly enhance the quality of existence, now and into the future.

My most dramatic example is the most recent. It happened for a friend who’s had a couple of bizarre and dispiriting years looking for permanent work, with jobs he’d accepted evaporating as if an unseen protector had pushed him away. Last week an interview popped up for a position with job duties so unique and specialized that Someone Up There could have cribbed them from his resume. The job was his within hours. My friend reports the other side shared his amazement at finding each other.

This is playing out all over the spectrum of life, involving everything from landing a dream car with financial ease, to unlocking and unraveling years, maybe lifetimes, of crippling emotional patterns, to relationships developing that are beyond what you ever dared dream possible, to receiving and accepting (that’s a key component) angelic levels of money, practical assistance and loving care during illness.

A common thread is being tenaciously, uncompromisingly, unyieldingly true to yourself, and the outer world rearranging to match and support that. Yes, the rearranging has taken a while, but it is happening now.

Turmoil does remain widespread, of course. An air of inevitability and inescapability is cloaking everything, welcome and not so welcome. With Saturn in the final weeks of the relationship lab he’s been running for two years, inescapable deadlines are looming and pressuring folks into addressing all manner of issues, clean-up work and loose ends before the bell rings at the beginning of October.

Raise your hand if an outside force recently delivered the incentive for you to deal with a matter you’ve been putting off, and you dealt with it. As for the rest of you — you have been hit with incentive, right? It isn’t going anywhere (except maybe more into your face).

But you know this. If you’ve recently dealt with a lingering issue, you’ve already experienced well-being blossoming in the space you’ve cleared or rearranged. If you’re in the camp that’s still dallying, you know, in your heart of hearts, that the situation can not go on much longer.

But you also know that the situation you’re dodging is on the brink of changing, along with so many other aspects of our lives. The problem is, no one knows with certainty exactly what is around the bend (or, to keep my previous imagery going, what will happen with the fighters finally go at each other.)

It can be unnerving to sense something coming and be unable to either speed it along or step out of the way. Even the magically positive developments coming into view can be unnerving. On the one hand, we don’t dare believe that they’re real (oh, but they are); on the other, because they will upend our comfortable way of life and lob it into distant memory.

Reframe: You can control where you place your feet, who you spend your time with and how you respond emotionally and energetically, no matter how chaotic and powerful the universal forces may be just now. You control what goes on inside of you. And you may control, or at least steer, a lot more.

This week, look for signs of how the current processes benefit you. They do, somehow, even if you are in physical agony, even if you are reeling from a relationship break-up, even if you are not sure where the money’s coming from to pay the bills. And likely none of these scenarios fit you. For many many people, life is going extraordinarily well, better than ever before in their lives, magically even.

Find your solid ground. (Hint: it’s not on the outside.) Stand fast and use that as your platform for all the instability and uncertainty and giddy possibilities (or are they probabilities?) and situations that are changing, irrevocably, before your eyes. You’ll likely know what to do, and when you don’t, higher guidance will Pursue some changes of your own, too. You know you’ve got projects and agendas and new perspectives in the works. (This is, by the way, a fertile time for therapy.)

And purge, too. Going through your belongings and getting rid of ones you don’t use vents some of Pluto’s transformational energy. The tactic is a great tonic when he’s active; harness it now to lighten your load.

While you’re at it, stake your claim to enjoying your time on this planet, too. Venus is happily in Leo now, where she loves to shine and strut and indulge in attention and the finer things in life. Splurge a little; it’s good for your soul. Let your heart fires burn madly, too. Share them, and warm yourself on the fires burning around you. The next match between Uranus and Pluto doesn’t have to be scary. It can actually be fun. All together now: it will actually be fun.

Saturday’s Virgo New Moon delivers clarity of mind, We do get an assist as the Uranus/Pluto square is crescendoing to a fevered pitch: Saturday’s Virgo New Moon and the clarity of mind it delivers. Spock-like objectivity is on tap with the Moon conjunct her ruler Mercury (just as the Pisces Full Moon was conjunct her ruler Neptune). Because of the helpful link Mercury is making to the North Node of destiny, we’ll also get an unemotional glimpse of where all these developments are heading. Gather information. Read more in my mooncast, which will be posted by Friday.

Astro-Outlook for September 2012

Get ready to rock and roll! Or, for some, lock and load….sigh.

September is an intense, high-stakes month. Dominoes are starting to fall and knock over ones further down the line. Rumblings are turning into earth-splitting quakes. Stalled situations are lunging forward and erupting into new forms. Faltering situations are swaying and collapsing. And yet … we’re having a good time.

Howlin’ at the Moon: Forecast for Aug. 27-Sept. 2, 2012

Humans aren’t merely rational beings. (Or rarely, some would argue). We’re also animals, which makes us subject to a primal, instinctual streak that pushes us into directions our minds can’t always understand. This week, that streak is steering the boat.

A lot of what you experience and witness is going to feel unfamiliar. Some of it may escort you down a strange path that leads you to a magical or cherished development. Some of it will confirm a suspicion, spill a secret or unmask a disguise. Some of it will strike you as outright looney. And a lot of it may not belong to you at all.

Raw, elemental impulses are stirring. They’re not all scary or nasty (some are quite delicious, actually); they’re simply ones that normally lurk below the surface or behind closed doors. And they’re active now — which means we can see what’s really in the water with us, more deeply, more accurately and, yes, more compassionately.

Fuller pictures are developing, of ourselves and of what’s around us. Passions, desires and intensely honest emotions are escaping from the tightly lidded boxes we’ve stuffed them in to make it easier to function in polite society. Monsters are crawling out of closets and out of the shadows under beds. Power-mongers are revealing the profound insecurity and terror that underlies their aggression and grabs for dominance.

Demonize if you want — lord knows the masses are doing that — but outward projections are missing the ultimate message of the week: We are all this weird mix of rational and animalistic and divine that we call human. Every one of us. And we are in the water together. What happens in one part of the pool affects all of it, and all of us, whether we are conscious of it or not.

Hang on to this perspective and you can find tremendous empowerment in this week’s developments, disclosures and epiphanies. Choppiness and discomfort are in the mix, but so are treasures, moments of awe and and the opportunity (or two) to say, “Just as I thought!!!”

We are all sponges that soak up each other’s … let’s call it stuff. When the sponges get oversaturated, as they will by this weekend, they could benefit from a good squeezing out. The key for that? No, not necessarily tears, though that’s going to do to the trick for some people. The mind holds the key: healthy mental boundaries.

X-ray vision is at our disposal from Mars, the ruler of our drive, exploring the murky waters of Scorpio, as an advance guard for Saturn’s arrival there in October. We’ve been rethinking, renegotiating, restructuring and, in some cases, ending relationships, and now we’re exploring what it would be like to commit to the ones that remain.

Starting this week, Scorpio is also the new home of the North Node of the Moon, which represents the collective experience. For the next 18 months or so, we will as a group be exploring the penetrating, potent energies of Scorpio — from big money, sex, taxes, mortality and primal terrors to fearless honesty, death-defying bravery and all-consuming immersion in experiences that take us to new levels of consciousness and union. All are themes of the Scorpio end of the coming eclipse cycle, which launches with November’s New Moon.

That’s then, though; this is now. And for now, the big event is Friday’s Full Moon in Pisces, embodiment of the pool that we are sharing. You may wonder if the Moon is full far in advance of Friday, actually; that’s how all-encompassing and far-reaching this one is.

Illusionist Neptune is not only the host of this party, but is also standing by the Moon. His presence enhances the not-of-this-world quality she’s currently giving off, escalating the magical, romantic, sweet or divine in everything that crests now. (Also the deceit and intrigue; be advised.)

Paradoxically, this Moon is also very much of this world. Her closest companion is Chiron, representative of our abiding wound and the challenge of overcoming it to settle fully into mortal, physical existence. We’re getting a status report on how well we’re mastering that. Do we define ourselves by the wound? Use it as an excuse? Have we embraced it as a part of the self and enlisted it as an ally?

Enmeshment and blurred boundaries play a role, too. The solution for that comes as the Sun and Moon are relaxing their showdown, when Mercury enters Virgo. Discernment, discretion and healthy fences are in the air once he’s in his late-summer home. He’s got the wherewithal to deal with anything the tide washes in. (More in my mooncast, which will be posted on the site by Thursday.)

Sound bleak? It doesn’t have to be. Look for the magic. It will abound. And thank the wisps and ghosts and annoying little demons that reveal themselves. You’ll navigate the world better knowing they’re there — and watching some vanish.

General note for the week: The predawn hours are hopping almost every night. Keeping writing materials by your bed the whole week is your best bet for capturing the nuggets surfacing in your sleep.

Fall?!? Forecast for August 20-26, 2012

Feel the cool in the air? The first sign of fall is blowing in. Maybe the temperatures aren’t really dropping just yet, but this week’s atmosphere is a taste of what’s coming in October and beyond.

That’s going to involve getting good and serious about decisions we’re been making lately. Prepare to dive deep.

Mars, the planet that rules our drive and motivation, is moving into Scorpio, triggering focused-to-obsessive exertions of will and effort. Mars has just come off a meeting with Saturn, the most orderly, rule and structure-loving influence in the sky. This merging put the brakes on some situations and green-lighted others for development. The results of this meeting — the commitments, agreements and agendas he set with Saturn– are going with Mars into Scorpio, exactly where Saturn will be heading himself in October.

Mars is doing advance work while Saturn finishes up his business in Libra. Mars is putting our recent decisions, commitments, agendas and agreements under the microscope. We may explore secrets, pry out buried treasure or gasp at threats and fears (not garden variety but the sort that interrupt or prevent your sleep and loom huge like cartoonish shadows projected onto the wall by an angled light in the hallway.) We will get serious, intensely so, about the decisions and developments of the summer. No more flirting, or dallying, or sitting on the fence (if you haven’t already been pushed off that). Whatever it is that we’ve decided we want, we want to dive in and experience it intensely.

Mars is simply driving home the deepen-or-die imperative coming from Saturn’s final weeks in his two year-ish journey through Libra, the sign of relationships and social contracts. In that time, our connections have gone through quite the overhaul. Old paradigms, ground rules and beliefs have been collapsing, while we embrace and negotiate greater reciprocity and more honest, more empowering and less enmeshed ways of relating. Mars is now applying his laser focus and X-ray vision to the situations and arrangements in progress, so we can see what lurks beneath the surface as we prepare to take the plunge.

He’s getting an assist from Venus, the ruler of our hearts and all we hold dear, and then from Neptune, ruler of higher love. Before Mars slides into Scorpio, Venus makes a growth aspect to expansive, optimistic Jupiter. Your heart is in another wave of opening and blossoming. This week’s planetary collaboration gives you permission to (a) have a desire or four and (b) allow yourself to have them fulfilled. Without guilt or apology, let yourself be more caring and nurturing of yourself, and see if you aren’t also more willing to give words to your needs.

Sunday, a couple of days after Mars has settled into Scorpio’s waters, he has an open channel to Neptune, the weaver of dreams, the cosmic font of compassion and transcendence and the universal spin doctor without equal. Determine to be divinely guided and your actions will drip with artistic inspiration, kindness and higher wisdom. People who are open to whatever, on the other hand, might be pursuing or doing the bidding of lies and illusion. (Unplug from the news and watch a movie if you have to. Or go outside and commune with nature.)

In this framework, the Sun begins his annual visit to Virgo, the sign of discrimination, discernment and healthy choices and boundaries. A paradox is before us: remaining intact while merging deeply. Mull it over and give it a try. Coexist with this one and you have the formula for relationships that flourish and prosper.

Me me me me me: 2012 Leo New Moon

August 17, 2012
8:56 AM AM PDT/ 11:56 AM EDT / 3:56 PM GMT
25 Leo 8

The Leo New Moon invites you to bring all the recent developments back to that most important of starting places: You.

For months, we’ve been watching once-firm ground blow up around us, beneath our feet and across our inner landscapes. We’ve been exploring desires, relationship dynamics and attitudes about money and our core worth, and starting to think and talk about what it is we want now.

This week we’ve been facing down obsessions, power struggles, fears and scary, primal impulses. Healing core wounds connected to or affected by those monsters. And applying determination and resolve to relationships, agreements and all kinds of social conventions. (Hasn’t it been easy to state what you need lately? Unapologeticly? Matter-of-factly?)

This process has brought the cosmic approximation of installing an entitlement gene. Many of us didn’t get one at birth, but we’ve certainly been acquiring a greater comfort with the concept lately. If you haven’t thought of your recent journey in those terms, consciously try them on and play with them. There’s no time like the present, with the Leo New Moon in the sign of the self.

This fire Moon kindles a child-like passion for simply being alive, for reveling in being here without need to justify our existence. (A book that will help you explore that concept is Birthright: What It Is And How To Get It Back, by Jane Fleming, a perceptive author who was, at least at one time, a reader of mine.) Underscoring that this is right and good is a helpful aspect to Mars and Saturn, rulers of our drive and ability to act responsibly, who are just coming off a meeting in the relationship sign of Libra. We’ve got the motivation and wherewithal for serious relationship work — bringing in reciprocity, dismantling the faltering connections, locking in the ones that work and, most of all, proceeding on a stronger, firmer, truer sense of self.

Allowing yourself to do this is not entirely comfortable. The Uranus/Pluto change edict is sending vaguely unsettling undercurrents into this New Moon that may shoot a mix of agitation and nervous excitement into your solar plexus. No wonder: Setting up relationships with yourself first is a departure from how many of us were brought up. Many of us, particularly Baby Boomers, were taught a false and disempowering humility that led to devaluing our own needs and making choices and decisions (including how we positioned or presented ourselves) based on our concept of what the other person or society expected. And how’s that been working lately? You see my point.

What works now is being fully yourself, neither holding back nor compromising on core values, and teaming with people who are doing the same. Awareness and openness are key, which mean paying attention to signals that a situation isn’t an appropriate fit and also being straightforward about what you are willing to do and what you need and expect in return.

Right now, this level of awareness and communication happens easily and brings grounding and stability, thanks to the Mars/Saturn connection. It’s also coming naturally (and impulsively) from the tight link going on between Mercury and Uranus, the mundane and higher rulers of the mind. We have to express our unique selves; in fact, that expression is going to fly out of us even if we attempt to tamp it down and behave maturely and soberly.

So: Let yourself come out to play, in all your quirky unique expressive glory. Be honest about what you want and what you’re willing to do. Ask for both. Make agreements you can keep (and then keep them). If a situation or proposed agreement requires you to give up too much, or anything important of yourself, well, maybe that’s not right for you. (I’m hearing Billy Joel as I type, “Don’t go changing….”)

And most of all: Make it fun.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Progress: Forecast for Aug. 13-19, 2012

It’s practicum time in the relationship lab that Saturn has been hosting since the fall of 2011. The task is not a practice exercise (or three), but putting everything we’ve been developing to practical use. That means realizations, decisions, negotiations, renegotiations, revised ground rules and new models of connection and reciprocity.

You know what happens when you start putting reconditioned or unfamiliar tools and concepts to use. They don’t always fly right off the bat. Sometimes you have to learn how to work them (or work with them). Sometimes you uncover other parts of the job that need attention. Sometimes you discover that you need to learn something or hone a skill to make the best use of them. And then a corny joke comes to mind: “Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall?” “Practice, practice, practice.”

That’s where we are. Major healing, cleaning up, finishing and implementing dominate the week. When your mind wanders off into what-ifs about later in the year, bring it back to the practicum.

The working metaphor for the week (as well as the next six) is a school calendar. It’s near the end of a semester and you are in the final weeks of all your courses, with finals still a bit ahead. You know what courses you’re going to be taking next semester, but are you worrying about them and wondering whether that intriguing person you’ve been flirting with in the dining hall is going to be in any of them, or going into a panic over what grade you might get? No. You are paying attention to this semester. You have to get through this one before the next one is a live issue.

Remind yourself of that. Maybe even write it down. And, yes, I know this does not come automatically or naturally for us monkey-mind folks. But flying off into the next stage is a distraction from the real and necessary work of finishing this stage.

And really good results are likely if we buckle down and work now. Even though it’s summer. Four big influences are helping with it. Three of them involve Chiron, who challenges us to embrace the gift in an abiding wound and settle fully into the physicality of existence. He’s opening pathways to healing that could make us more comfortable with ourselves and with all the folks we have to live with on this planet.

Chiron is in an opportunity aspect to Pluto, lord of our deepest darkest secrets and impulses and one of the instigators of the rampant and relentless disruption and change that we have been experiencing. Even if for only a moment, we can glimpse the illusion of separateness as just that: an illusion, one that both grows out of and feeds irrational fears and baseline terrors. Everyone — without exception — has been confronting, encountering and undergoing unprecedented instability inside and out, often with damage to metaphoric structures that previously provided a secure foundation. Even if for only a moment, we can experience a softening of the experience of instability. Maybe understand how it benefits us. Maybe experience a sensation of triumphing in it. Maybe transmute long-standing wounds because of it. Maybe experience genuine compassion for what everyone else is going through — even the people who are driving us nuts.

Chiron is also dancing with Venus, ruler of our heart. The flow between them opens and unleashes emotions, throws arguing people into each other’s arms, places balm (initially I typed “calm;” that works, too) and comfort on aching, lonely hearts and pours sustenance into the emotionally malnourished.

Chiron is the bridge in this week’s big standoff, between the two planets of desire and money, Venus (worldly) and Pluto (big, dirty, primal). You see something you want and you can’t have, or shouldn’t have, or crave so badly that it would throw your life into utter, utter disarray. It’s the apple just out of reach, the beloved food that triggers allergies, the obsession that’s just not good and healthy for you, someone else’s spouse.

Whatever form this takes for you, view it through the eyes of love — the eyes of love for yourself. Relate it to your core wound, the one that resurfaces again and again no matter how much therapy or inner work or growing up you do. There is a connection. Let yourself off the hook. Let yourself be human. Forgive yourself.

And then get to work. We’ve got all the incentive in the world (heck, the universe) to buckle down with Mars, the ruler of our drive and actions, meeting with Saturn in Libra, the sign of our social contracts. Our experiences since April have brought us to a more conscious understanding of what our hearts want and need. Now we have the motivation and the follow-through to tackle relationships and agreements of all kinds.

The stakes are high; the ramifications are long-lasting. I’ve been saying since June that this summer is not for flings and trifles; it’s a summer of serious love. Now we see just how much so. Now begins the serious dismantling or collapsing of relationships that can’t support us, while the ones that are going with us begin maturing into solidity and commitment.

The first part doesn’t have to be nasty. We can do this with love. Chiron’s healing contacts with Pluto and Venus infuse everything we undertake now. Ease up on yourself. Forgive yourself. Put healthy focus on yourself, your emotional needs, your own nurturing. And stop worrying about what’s going to happen; the fall will be here soon enough.

It’ll be amazing, actually, how outer situations fall into place as a result.

Oh, and there’s a New Moon in Leo on Friday. Inner children get validation and big-girl/big-boy privileges. More in my mooncast.

Who’s Your Buddy? Forecast for July 30-August 2, 2012

Relationships are coming back to the fore. We all have a clarified, reshaped and more sharply focused sense of self, after the puzzle pieces and choices that abounded last week. Opportunities are now here to firm up relationships and agreements to match those freshly honed identities — and, in the process, reshape ourselves even more.

Everything is moving, inescapably, into a new paradigm — yes, I groan at that word myself, but it really does apply to what is happening within each and within each of our connections. We are different. We are relating to each other differently. The structures and rules of our relationships are, as a result, vastly different, too.

These two steps occur on top of each other, so intertwined that the relationship ramifications are developing even as the personal shifts are still going on. The phrase “work in progress” applies to a lot right now. Even so, firm, clear and very real parameters are taking shape that will stay with us.

This week the Sun, which embodies our sense of self, is contacting both of the change agents that are fomenting the relentless upheaval we are experiencing and seeing on so many fronts. Both contacts occur during overnight hours, well before dawn on Monday and on Tuesday. The timing causes the shift resulting from each contact to lock into place in the subconscious (although we will certainly feeling the pressure during waking hours the day before).

The Sun starts the week at a choice point with Pluto, guardian of what lies beneath and holder of the ultimate power of life, death and rebirth. We cast our lot with either fear, compulsions and demons in one direction, or personal truth and alignment with a greater consciousness in the other. The choice permanently changes our psyche and relationship to power; a part of us dies so that the remainder may grow and flourish.

An open channel follows to the liberating, awakening electricity of Uranus. New possibilities are opening up for who we are and who we can be. The Plutonian/Uranian one-two guarantees an end to putting up with situations that squelch or imprison you, simply to keep the peace. Personal honesty, liberation and unfettered freedom of movement and exploration are becoming imperatives.

They’re actually invigorating and intoxicating, to be honest. This has probably already been occurring to you, even if you’re still cowering in soul-deadening circumstances because you don’t see a way out, or feel brave enough to rock the boat. Make that haven’t, up to now. Mice are roaring. Standing up for yourself in even a tiny way makes a huge impact now.

While our inner world is the first frontier for this end of the equation, it will likely also play out through external developments. Watch what blows open, lands in your lap or flies into your life from a direction or source you did not see coming.

All of this coincides with a strengthening, solidifying, grounding and real-making trend in relationships. The astrological timing dovetails perfectly with the psychological. When we are more truly ourselves, we are more present in relationships, and relationships become more honest, true and real.

What’s bringing this on: Venus, ruler of all that we value on a mundane level (relationships, money, possessions, core values, aspects of our selves), is linking with the ruler of stability and commitment, Saturn himself. Situations of lasting value are shaping up. Ones that can’t support us in the long run are winding down.

Information and negotiations are going to fly this week fleshing out new ground rules, discussing where both parties want the relationship to go (and how to get there), making commitments and hashing out exit strategies.

Don’t go into this with anxiety. It will be easy to talk. Conversations will flow. People will be astonishingly amenable to them, too. You don’t have to manipulate or engineer; more than once you will find yourself in the right place at the right time. (You do, however, have to step up to opportunity when it appears.) You already know where most of these situations are heading, or at least you know the direction that you want.

Remember: lasting value is at the top of everyone’s list. That’s why this has not been a summer for light-hearted romance or casual flings. Those would be distractions and interruptions. What we need now are companions who can walk shoulder to shoulder with us, true to their own journey and yet supportive of ours.

There’s also an element of coming to grips with sober, and sobering, reality: recognizing what is feasible and what is not. If you’re hoping that someone who treated you badly is going to come back, undergo a personality change and never engage in that objectionable behavior again…that relationship is in the second category. To which you are starting to wise up.

You won’t want anything other than what is true to you. The clean-up event in this process ensures that: the Aquarius Full Moon late Wednesday/early Thursday. This Moon is not only ruled by Uranus, one of the change agents already at work this week and for the foreseeable future, but it is also in direct and free-flowing contact with the liberating, awakening firepower that Uranus is wielding in Aries. More in my mooncast, which will be posted by Wednesday.

Venus and Saturn are toning down some of the “my way or the highway” impulses, but fires of individuality and personal freedom are igniting and flaring. Reckless, maybe; bold, probably; fast-acting, for certain. Know thyself. Be true to yourself. Speak up. And don’t make agreements you can’t or don’t want to keep.

2012 Cancer New Moon

July 18-19, 2012
8:25 PM PDT/ 12:25 AM EDT / 4:25 AM GMT
26 Cancer 55

Do you feel the squeeze? It’s coming from the Cancer New Moon. A new phase is here in emotional expression, nurturing and relating to family, tribe and tradition, and cosmic forces are making sure we head right on into it.

This New Moon has the pressure of a hand on an uncooperative tube of toothpaste — or contractions forcing movement down a birth canal. There’s a sense of purpose and destination, of unavoidability and inevitability, of something being pushed out of one container into a more open one.

This is not bad news. Getting out of stuck places can be a relief. This is not unexpected, either. The parts of your life that are showing the pressure are not a surprise. They have been worked over relentlessly since the summer of 2009. What’s going on now is another round of focusing on the condition of your emotional security and pushing, pushing, pushing you to decide what you truly need and allow yourself to have it.

All manner of security blankets are at play right now — archetypes of Daddy and Mommy, the comfort of food, nostalgia and, most of all, the anchor (or ball and chain) we find in other people. That last category is especially active right now. This New Moon brings another growth spurt in the ongoing evolution of how we treat each other and, just as importantly, what we expect from each other.

The pressure on and from the New Moon is coming out of the relationship lab that we’ve been in for nearly two years, as taskmaster Saturn has traveled through Libra. Saturn can be the ultimate party pooper. He can also be a stern but wise teacher that helps us mature and see the long-term benefit of assuming responsibilities and making commitments.

Right now he is making a confrontational aspect to the New Moon, an aspect that can not be ignored. Relationship issues are not staying under the carpet; they are coming out into the open and demanding action. Do our agreements and arrangements provide emotional support, nurturing and reciprocity? Do they have the potential to deliver what we need in the long-term? Solid ones are firming up. Rickety ones are in for shaking up.

If someone is falling short, keep blame out of this as much as you can. Turn your focus inward. What do you need? Are you getting it? How can you nurture yourself better? Acting on your answer will likely affect the dynamics of the relationship that made you raise the question. It will likely affect the dynamics of lots of relationships, actually. But that’s only a side effect. What’s important is the effect on you.

This New Moon may show you where it’s realistic to look for emotional nurturing and turn your head from situations that can not provide it. Certain connections may become more precious. Others may move more to the sidelines. The bottom line: a hand is against our back shoving us toward situations that are emotionally healthy and nurturing for the long haul.

Inside the relationship arena and out, welling emotions are possible. Tears are possible. Let them up and out; they’re probably overdue. We’ve all been through enormous and intense developments lately. Emotional release is in order now, even for the positive and fun ones.

Endeavor to be kind. Remember that everyone is experiencing heightened sensitivity just now. That goes for you, too. I see chocolate …. lots of chocolate.

Forecast for July 9-15, 2012

Catch your breath. Breathe. Breathe deep. The last couple of weeks have been heavy on moments that knocked breath out or stopped it outright. Take every chance you get now to replenish it.

Those chances will be popping up more frequently this week. No one can go full tilt ahead without a break, and the astrological influences are providing time for that now. Once again, after monumental aspects have converged, they’re going to hang in the air with little new coming to join them, and with two enormously long stretches for us to kick back and simply be (long void moons on Wednesday and Friday).

So what’s going on besides breathing? The pace is actually picking up speed. Mars, the planet of action, is covering ground quickly, while slow-and-steady Saturn is finally creeping forward, too. We’re just starting to forge new connections, new partnerships, new collaborations, new agreements, and new terms for all our existing ones. On top of which some of us have some debris to deal with. All aspects of that process switches to investigation mode by the weekend, when two retrogrades lead us into some backtracking.

On Friday, Uranus starts to back away from the foundation-shaking conflict he’s engaged in with Pluto. (Pluto will turn around and catch up with him at the end of September.) These days, Uranus’ flashes of brilliance have had the impact of flaming arrows, daring, impulsive and revolutionary to the point of recklessness. His retrograde, which lasts into December, may cool some of the fires, and some of the hotheads, or maybe just let them gather more ammo. The option is open for you to revisit the shaken foundations and consider how you could free yourself from them or shift your perspective on them. As for those new connections and agreements you’re making, how could you

On Saturday, Mercury goes retrograde till August 8. Everything he rules is up for second looks, not to mention snarls and delays — communications, technology, traffic, transportation and vehicles. Phones, computers, the Internet and all the latest wireless gadgets are especially vulnerable. Redundant technologies and backup plans are key to navigating this without going hoarse from screaming in frustration. Use this time for examining the fine print, investigating new connections and agreements, and unraveling the ones that are going under. Clean up, reorganize and tidy up the clutter that the volatility of the past few weeks has thrown off. Hold off on launching new projects, signing major business deals (unless you want the flexibility to rework them later) and making high-dollar purchases or investments.
