Forecast for the 2017 Taurus New Moon

2017 Cancer New Moon
June 23-24, 2017
7:21 PM PDT / 10:21 PM EDT / 3:21 AM GMT
2 Cancer 41

Get out your teddy bear, your blankie and your favorite childhood food.

And woe to anyone who reaches for them without permission.

This year’s Cancer New Moon is awakening the toddler within — and activating his vocal cords, muscle and most basic, unfiltered impulses.

Cancer is the Moon’s home, and the first and rawest of the water signs. Emotions rule this roost, which encompasses everything that makes us feel safe and secure (and the absence of which threatens us beyond reason) — Mommy, the comforts of home, food and tradition, family and tribal associations.

Our awareness and experience of them all are up for the annual reboot. This year’s model is unlikely to be quiet, gentle or still.

It comes quick on the heels of the solstice, when the Sun entered Cancer, on June 21 this year. The chart for that day set a show-me undertone for the summer, with Venus and the Moon both in earthy, sensory-focused Taurus. Wants are not theories or wishes, but desires that require physical fulfillment (and multiple helpings, to boot).

Those desires underlie the subconscious, childlike impulses stirring at the Cancer New Moon. It carries a profound potential for sweetness and tenderness, with giving and receiving nurturing serving as the currency of love.

There are other potentials as well, of course. Oversensitivity and poutiness, for one instance. Defensiveness, protectionism and combativeness, for another.

We’re more prone to express and act on Cancerian impulses because of company this Moon is keeping. She’s close by Mercury, ruler of our thoughts and words, and he in turn is closing in on Mars, ruler of drive, motivation and follow through.

Neither Mercury nor Mars is particularly comfortable sloshing about in the waters of Cancer. Mercury does better flying through the air than swimming, which drags his gait. Mars is awkward as well, stomping through a cozy cosmic kitchen in battle gear and boots. Frustration, pressure or going overboard are all possible results.

Hence the activation of inner toddler vocal cords and muscle. They override adult filters (just watch) that might otherwise restrain us from hugging, putting our hearts on our sleeves or tearing up. From squawking, acting like babies or reacting as if someone is trying to take a toy away. From standing up for someone (or thing) we love.Watch for a rise in cooking as caretaking and courtship, in expressions of love, in protecting turf and in fighting words.

This Moon bodes well for both existing and budding relationships, with the M-gods encouraging emotional outpourings and actions backing them up.

On a mundane/national level, this Moon and her honor guard may inspire a feeling of unity by reminding us of how we are family. The lineup may also draw acting out by the masculine archetype, in the form of aggression by angry, threatened men.

Use this New Moon to shore up your own sense of safety and security. Listen and respond to the rumblings of your inner toddler. Give it rest and treats and soft objects to hold.

Upgrade the comfiness of your home. Fluff the cushions on your couch and bed. Put the appliances in your kitchen to actual use, or at least sit at the table to eat, if you balk at the notion of preparing a meal.

Nurture yourself; nurture people you love (and tell them you love them), especially the one(s) you’ve been wanting to bring closer.

And if (okay, when) you see someone on the warpath, consider whether the battle has anything to do with you. If it doesn’t, step out of the way. Maybe have milk and cookies and a nap. And maybe have that regardless.

June 2017

June promises a wild and wooly ride in an ever-changing environment. Don’t like the weather? Just wait. It’ll switch soon enough.

The atmosphere, conversation, alliances, agendas and tactics are all in for fluctuations (to put it charitably) that could spin a person’s head around.

Fortunately, flexibility is at your disposal as well. This is a month to make like a reed and sway in the wind. And the skies give you the roots to keep your heart and desires firmly planted.

The month begins with a self-actualizing send-off between Venus, ruler of all we value, and the lords of order and chaos, Saturn and Uranus. That pair has been fueling the year’s dominant and most paradoxical themes: simultaneously bringing form to individual, passionate impulses, and breaking apart norms and systems of thought.

The trine between Venus and Saturn on June 1 links to those individual, passionate impulses and attaches a grounding cord to our hearts and desires. Commitment (including acceptance of contours) flows easily and naturally, stabilizing relationships, money and creativity.

Breakthroughs follow when Venus meets liberating Uranus on the 3rd. Their contact explosively, dramatically ends whatever may remain from her recent retrograde and blasts us further along radical, personal trajectories.

From this point through the rest of the month, our anchors are firmly within ourselves. Your heart and your moral compass are aligned, freed from certain (but not all — you’re still human) debris. They are your guidance system, so press them into service.

The winds shift almost immediately. Mars, ruler of our drive, enters Cancer on June 4 and directs our energies for the rest of the month into home, family, nurturing and tribal issues. Watch for an upsurge in clucking, nesting, cooking and fighting for matters you care about (And taking things personally. And maybe pouting, too).

The noise level ramps up when Mercury comes home to Gemini on June 6.  During his brief stay — 15 days only! — minds and mouths fly, and so do our feet, as we’re inclined to get up from devices and run around a bit, too.

There’s still a bit of laziness in the air, though, and a pervasive “Show me!” attitude instead of a willingness to accept words. Chalk that up to Venus going home to Taurus, also on the 6th, and sending social and financial dealings into earthy, sensual, prove-it mode.

How we feel about what we’ve been hearing — and how well that meshes with our moral compass — come to a head at the Sagittarius Full Moon on June 9. The noise-to-signal ratio is high then, especially regarding relationships, agreements and reciprocity. With Saturn at the party, this Moon has a built-in brake, which pulls in that moral compass, accentuates the weight of responsibilities and brings the walls in closer if we’ve played fast and loose with either.

Hard truths (and flurries of beasties that prefer being out of sight) follow, when Mercury squares Pluto on the 15th. The air lightens within five days, when opportunities fly to regain sparkle and lightness, to shift perspective and to pull genius-level ideas out of the air.

Home exerts a magnetic pull on the solstice (June 21 this year), when both the Sun and Mercury slide into Cancer and then fuse in emotional self-awareness. The day’s chart  colors the entire season with  a sweet jumble of sit-close-so-I-know-you’re-there emotional sustenance, flowing spiritual love and inspired creativity, and deepening, dependable intimacy.

The mix bodes well for staycationing, furthering interests of family (blood, chosen, tribal), and flourishing in relationships, creativity and tangible resources — if only unsettling music weren’t playing in the distance.

It’s surging by the Cancer New Moon on June 23, which squeezes relationship ground rules into new forms, or else. The imperative comes from aggressive Mars and Pluto pressuring Jupiter in Libra. Money, love and resources are at the root of it all, thanks to Venus in Taurus (in simpatico aspect with Mars and Pluto and in charge of Jupiter’s sign).

Desires become only more insistent, magnetic and obsessive as she completes a trine to Pluto on June 24. Reason has no power in the presence of a tractor beam.

That doesn’t rule out a backwash, however. The music grows louder (recognize the “Jaws” theme yet?) in the month’s final week. First emotional agendas, then all manner of communications, escalate wildly, only to open to grace and compassion. And maybe some confusion.

By the 28th, our walk and talk merge in the waters of emotion — which could be tender and loving, or the stuff of a pity party. The disconcerting music’s still playing at month’s end. And the off switch is not in reach. May as well stare into the abyss and become more conscious of what lurks in it.

Forecast for October 2016

“Overture, curtains, lights,
This is it, you’ll hit the heights,
And, oh, what heights we’ll hit,
On with the show, this is it.” – Bugs Bunny Show theme song

December brings a head-spinning mix of inevitability and unpredictability. Don’t expect it to go according to either tradition or plan. Keep your mind and schedule open, follow your instincts and you might actually have fun.  Having popcorn on hand might prove useful, too.

Been stuck? Waiting for motivation? Or the right opening? Not any more. Santa (or your holiday benefactor of choice) is delivering cases of Popeye’s spinach that unleashes startling, nigh-on superhuman action.

We’re being catapulted out of the upheaval of the past five years and into directions that upheaval made possible. Everything that has broken, cracked open, shifted and reshaped over the past five years has led to the events of this month.

The next stage of the adventure is here, and the skies are giving us a high-octane send-off. Saturn and Uranus, the lord of structure and the guy who blows structures up, are igniting the first of three booster rockets that define the trajectory of the next year. (Rounds two and three come in May and November.)

The inaugural launch has Jupiter in Libra amping up (trining) Saturn and triple-dog-daring Uranus (via an opposition), effectively throwing flame accelerant into the mix. Uranus is intensifying the launch with a dragging energy that comes from nearing the end of his retrograde. Blast-off happens on Christmas Eve. (Oh, goodie, right?) We’ll be feeling the build-up in the weeks before — and the backdraft well beyond.

Jump on this and ride. This blend of controlled planetary firepower is firming, grounding and stabilizing the dramatic, innovative, going-for-broke developments so many of us are being compelled to pursue. (If you’re not acquainted with the concept of self-actualization; read up on it; we’re in for an epidemic.)

The teamwork is also zapping established ways of thinking and doing — tilting them, electrifying them, blasting them apart. Loose cannon on a rampage is one aspect of this potential, as we’ve been seeing in the collective (okay, the political news). We’re in for a startling, unforeseeable, possibly previously unthinkable development or three, a fitting cap for a year that can be charitably described as weird.

Don’t panic! The disruptions can be fun, freeing and beneficial, too. Amid this volatility, traditions hold little sway. Consider yourself off the hook from anything that does not enhance your life or bring you joy. This is a holiday season to do whatever you darn well please. Make it up as you go along, even.

As tricky as this high-octane blend sounds, the skies are beaming down plenty of reason to get on board.  Links from action hero Mars to the firestarters have us raring to go as the month begins. While we’re ramping up, thoughts and communications keep us fixed on the concrete, practical and long-term, thanks to messenger god Mercury’s entry into Capricorn on the 2nd.

Venus gives relationships breathing room and a 20,000 feet-high perspective stretching far into the future, when she moves into Aquarius on the 7th.  The Sun steps into the dance when he collaborates with the outer planet trio in the second week, which also brings a boost in detachment (and scads of data) from the Gemini Full Moon.

From mid-month on, that mental focus on terra firma has us slowing, turning around, rethinking and flirting with do-overs. The impetus comes from the double whammy of Mercury stationing retrograde and Mars entering anything but straightforward Pisces on December 19right as the calendar is hurtling us into the thick of the holidays and year-end crunch.

With Mars out of forward, march mode, this Mercury retrograde presents more than its usual challenges, adding to the anything-can-happen (or be revealed, she says cryptically) vibe coming off Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. Take ordinary retrograde precautions and then some. Approach communication as susceptible to the misleading, confusing and truthy. Make allowances for technology and traffic developing snarls and blips for reasons that are not always apparent. Rely on your inner GPS.

And work the double whammy to your benefit. At the very moment you feel your life escalating into excitement and adventure,  this planetary pair can draw attention to foundational matters and encourage soft, indirect action that flows around or permeates blocks. Do less, so you can do more. Reopen plans, goals, traditions for discussion (or simply back out). Play the backhand that comes so naturally to Mars in Pisces. Direct requests or demands are going to draw resistance and blow back. Try a little tenderness. Lure what you want.

This vibe permeates the solstice, which takes place on December 21, and reverberates throughout the winter season.

As weird, unfamiliar and potentially unsettling as these dynamics sound, the year’s final week holds the promise of sunniness and inner peace. Wherever that first booster rocket shoots us, the initial returns are positive. Happy hearts abound on Christmas Day, which sees Venus cavorting merrily with Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus.

The month and year end with clarity (the Sun conjuncting Mercury) and the concerted action and emotional goal-setting inspired by the Capricorn New Moon, on the 29th.  New horizons are calling that same day, as Uranus drops his drag and stations direct. Before heading out, take a dip in the grace and harmony between the Sun and dreamweaver Neptune. They add gentleness and nostalgia as the clock runs out on a most unusual year.

Astrology Forecast for June 2015

June sends us forward and backward with a force fit for New Year’s Eve.  Just as the signal approaches to gun our engines, at last, unfinished business comes calling with dollar signs and repercussions. Which way to go? There’s the paradox. Progress will occur, but with the weight of the past dogging us – until we turn and deal with it, once and for all.

The month begins with high energy and, likely, some of the brightest spirits we’ve enjoyed all year. Those levels promise to stay up all month.  From the Sagittarius Full Moon on the 2nd on, fire is running throughout the sky, stoking life force and enthusiasm, fueling showmanship and playfulness, and causing sparks of emotion (anger, maybe?) to flare into into acts of passion, rebellion and liberation.

The vibe amps up when Venus moves into Leo on the 5th, bringing relationships center stage.  Think glitter, champagne, gold jewelry at the beach and a willingness, nay, demand for attention.  The shift bodes well for fun in the sun and a general desire to socialize — and to go for what you want, without apology. Our interactions — and our divine right to be paid — will take on playfulness, showiness, grandeur, generosity and sometimes a bit of brattiness.

We won’t see much of that last side at first. With Venus in a free flow to Saturn (June 6), a responsible, regal, even grown-up approach will prevail, encouraging many a developing relationship and financial deal to find solid, reliable parameters.  Folly comes later, when Venus goes retrograde near the end of July.

The fire impulses converge in a forceful, cathartic forward push acting on — or leaping from  — the turmoil of March through May. The shockwaves are over, mostly, and we’re taking crazy bold action. This flavor of frustration, motivation and zeal has banked and subsided twice before, late last September and early in March. Third time’s a charm, the saying goes, and this blast has a streak of “and I really mean it!” that’s bound to propel us finally, dramatically forward.

Jupiter is blessing the dice as he moves into a third, life-changing trine to Uranus, the agent of unpredictable change (exact on June 22). Minds unlock. Shackles fall from ankles. Fuses ignite, and we’re all human cannonballs hurtling forward. Relationships rock and roll, too, when Venus plugs into the Uranian circuit on the 29th. Resistance is futile. We’re been waiting for this. It builds all month, and where it takes you is downright exciting — probably in a good way, too.

While fire burns away the past and propels us forward, other influences complicate the picture.  The second week of the month brings a peculiar push-pull. Mercury goes direct on June 11, ending a retrograde cycle that began May 19. Before he gets going and communication has a chance to return to something resembling normalcy (as if such exists), Neptune stations retrograde, the following day. With the clouds of confusion coming off this, we could all feel unmoored and woozy for a few days.

Cold hard reality starts to intervene after the 14th, when Saturn returns to Scorpio for the summer. He’s the source of the backward pull, urging — pushing — okay, requiring — us to address loose ends from 2013-2014. Issues are still on the table concerning matters we don’t talk about openly or comfortably:  joint money, what we get out of every investment of time/money/emotion/energy, trust, intimacy, sex, death, debt and taxes. Clean them up or there will be consequences, though those may not be clear right now.  (That haze coming off Neptune.)

Those undercurrents pervade the Gemini New Moon on the 16th. It subtly refreshes mental energy and encourages chasing bright shiny objects, but with notes of seriousness, caution and awareness of the cost. Taking responsibility for what goes in and out of our heads is one theme. People who’ve been acting like adolescents may realize they’d rather make like adults now.

Summer officially begins on June 21, when the Sun enters Cancer. The day’s chart sets the tone for the season. It’s complicated, requiring choices involving maturity and responsibility, and others pitting garden-variety desire against primal, sublingual gotta-have-it impulses. Fortunately minds and hearts are fused, and we’re all emboldened by the self-actualizing, “I gotta be me” imperative of the Jupiter/Uranus trine, which peaks the following day.

Mars enters Cancer three days later, on the 24th, and brings a nesting, nurturing, emotional quality to our actions. That could cushion the impact of our actions. It could also make some people sensitive and crabby. Act as kindly as you can. Set your sights to the future and wish for the best.

2014 Capricorn New Moon

December 21-22, 2014

0 Capricorn 6

5:35 PM PST / 8:35 PM EST / 1:35 AM GMT

With the 2014 Capricorn New Moon, mid-December’s wild developments go from shifts and shocks to game plan for the winter and a new way of being.  The launch is clarifying, simplifying and sober(ing). The stillness in the air isn’t cold and calculating, though. (Well, not entirely.) A motivating undercurrent is palpable, as if destiny and desire are working hand in hand.

The transition promises to fall into place more quickly and solidly than you might think going into it. As if someone is flipping a switch, we are transitioning from What Was into What Is, in an instant. What Is sets us on an ascending path leading into the spring.  As the first week goes on, you’ll realize you’re already on the path, and your heart and mind are on board with it.

The first moments, though, may wind you. Odds are your head is still spinning from the head-spinning, accelerated whirlwind of restructuring that preceded the New Moon. That whirlwind isn’t going away, or rather, the effects of it are not. They color the New Moon and, because the Moon happens on the solstice, the entire winter season as well.

The whirlwind is spinning off change agents Uranus and Pluto confronting first each other and then Venus, ruler of our hearts, desires and values. The first confrontation is hardly new; that duo has been putting us through pervasive, volatile and unavoidable transformation since 2012.  By this point, we’ve largely come to accept that life is not going back to the contours it once held. We’re even beginning to embrace and work with the new circumstances.

This latest tectonic plate shifting, though, is packing a disorienting wallop, shoving, yanking and catapulting us into the new conditions and new ways of proceeding that are What Is. Instabilities in our foundations have roared open. Long-teetering situations have cracked apart.  We have become unmoored from what we’ve known, stood on and relied on.

Previous navigational systems are down. We’re moving forward, gingerly, on strange turf and in new and eerily unfamiliar ways. Professional intuitives in my acquaintance are discovering that their prior modes of accessing information have outright disappeared, replaced by unfamiliar methods. For everyone, in some way, our means of bridging realities — imagination and productivity, ideas and words, the energetic/spiritual realm and the mundane world — has been, quite simply, blown up.

A primal, instinctive, cellular demand has taken hold, too. It’s laying waste to what we can no longer tolerate and igniting what we must have to survive and thrive. Our hearts and bank accounts must be fed, our values and worth respected and affirmed – not merely sufficiently, though that’s a desirable start; abundantly.

The New Moon formalizes the changed conditions and encourages acclimating to them. The Moon’s ruler, Saturn, lord of structure, is all about the formality and acceptance.  He’s in the final minutes of Scorpio, bearing down on the issues of sharing, cost, return, reciprocity, trust and intimacy that he has pressured for the past two years. He’s moving to Sagittarius on the 23rd, but this pressure remains in the solstice chart and in the winter. The intensity signals:  there’s no going back; we are at the end of an era.

Motivation abounds to get with the program. The New Moon has a fiercely instigating quality, for several reasons. First, it falls on the solstice, the start date of the winter season. Second, it takes place at the very first degree of Capricorn, and barely minutes into it at that. The location graces this moon phase and this season with the rawest, most self-starting expression of the most goal-oriented sign of the zodiac.

Third, not only does it incorporate the change imperative of Uranus, Pluto and Venus, but it coincides with awakening Uranus going direct. The impact is akin to a ship moving forward with such force that it yanks the anchor free, or a trebuchet (look it up) flinging us over a barrier into unexplored territory. Sudden, fierce, initiating, motivating; watch for all those qualities to color your life as the year ends.

Clarity comes promptly. Christmas Eve and Day resound with it. We know our heart’s desires on a profoundly basic level, and that includes the people and situations we want and value most. Cobwebs shake loose. Messages and insight erupt out of nowhere or the most unlikely places.  We know, and we feel, and we act accordingly. Step by astonishing step, into the new year, into the new phase, into our new lives.

Get a head start on 2015 with my guides for each sign!
