The Month of Living Dangerously: Forecast for June 2014

It’s time for action. Brewing tensions can no longer be pacified or ignored. Simmering change can no longer be held at bay. Warrior god Mars is hitting trip wires, levers and dominoes that have been lying in wait for months, even years.

The areas of your life where motion and change are happening are no surprise. You have known for a while what they are, even if you haven’t been able to force the changes, or see how they might happen. Unforeseeability is still in the mix, though. Wild cards are at play, especially affecting the timing or source of change, or the direction from which it’s coming.

You are an active player in this process, too. No more sensing, dreading or reacting to ground rumbling and reshaping beneath your feet: you are jumping into the fray this month. Waiting for permission? Or to be asked? Hardly. You’re moving ahead impetuously on your agenda, implementing decisions without hesitation (well, without much) and surging ahead to rearrange relationships, agreements and your world in general. Openings are here for actions and shifts you’ve been contemplating for a long time. If you don’t find the door, well, that’s not likely to stop you.

There is, however, a wrinkle. The eruption of progress, derring-do and implementation occurs in the midst of a Mercury retrograde, starting June 7. Strive to breathe before you react. (Counting to five will be an achievement; to 10, a miracle.) The opportunity for being misunderstood is high. Remember that, as with communicating across a foreign language barrier, yelling isn’t going to make your message any clearer. (This point will be lost on many.)

Despite what we historically associate with summer, its first day, June 21, does not, alas, magically transport us to vacationland. The day’s chart imprints the summer with dynamic tension spurring us to action, ongoing assaults on the norm and a nervous push-pull relationship to desires and objects thereof.

How we get along with each other is an ongoing issue, hot in June and with us the whole season. Collectively we’re in for more evidence of the disconnect between men’s and women’s realities. More physical and legislative violence against women is coming, and so are arguments about what that means. We’ll be seeing increasingly who’s with us and who’s against us, on both a grand and personal scale.

However distressing the news may sometimes be, the end of the month promises reason for optimism, with more to come in July. Venus’ move into Gemini on the 23rd opens a release valve on tensions, disagreements and overall heaviness. The goddess of love and beauty is entering a light-hearted mode of expression that prefers friendly chatter and the pursuit of fun. Her shift brings her back to harmony and alignment with the masculine, represented by her consort Mars in the fellow air sign of Libra. As the pair moves toward the easy flow of a trine (exact in July), reaching common ground is likely in relationship and male/female issues.

As polarized as we may feel at the Sagittarius full moon on the 12th, considerations of nurturing, sustenance and protection of loved ones take over with the Cancer new moon on the 27th. Compassion, empathy and a high experience of love are all on tap by the 28th. Drink deep. The effort you’ve been expending all month is bound to have worked up quite a thirst.

Clear Your Mind; Clear Your Path: the 2014 Gemini New Moon

The New Moon in Gemini invites us to refresh our screens.  Think of it as the opportunity to do some more mental house cleaning before we leap into the next round of fundamental changes.

Don’t chafe at the idea of more clearing. What you’ve already done is not going to waste. It’s up for expansion. The tumult of the spring has rearranged vast and significant portions of our lives, and it only makes sense that some debris and dust are still lurking amid the emerging structures.

This time, though, the tidying up is not merely a mental exercise. Our hearts, desires and newly honed system of values are poised to assist. Their involvement comes from an exact aspect of cooperation between their ruler Venus and Mercury, which rules Gemini and as a result this New Moon. The location of each — the final minutes of the very last degree of the signs that they are occupying — adds to the fervor and potency of their teamwork, and the potential refreshing on offer.

Each planet is in the fullest, most extreme form of their current expression — Venus in Aries at her most bold, adventurous, self-starting and hunteresque, Mercury in Gemini (his home sign) at his most nimble, verbal, multi-faceted and versatile.  This pairing spells doom for cobwebs and rickety vehicles (thoughts, information streams, cars, technology). It emboldens us to update, to take risks, and to — big one coming — ask for what we want.

Be mindful what you wish, though. The New Moon is whipping up Neptune’s cosmic fog machine. That could egg on delusional, romanticized and unrealistic desires and thinking. The same force could clear clouds of confusion and illusion, too, especially if you set your mind to that. (House cleaning, remember?) The Moon could also spit out magic, miracles or an enlightened perspective (which may all be the same thing.)  Be brave and ask to see where you are fooling yourself. Ask to see the highest potential. Ask for guidance and compassion (for yourself!) and forgiveness (ditto).

Those cautions won’t stop us all from being human, of course. It’s inevitable that some of us will make our special fairy tale wishes and hope against hope they come true. Which leads to another characteristic of this Moon, and another reason to be mindful what you wish.

The impulse to take risks and ask for what you want will increasingly carry the assumption that we will get what we want.  Since form follows though, that assumption is likely to come true. Physical fulfillment and experience are up for emphasis as Venus moves into her Taurus home shortly after the New Moon.  The next day, Mercury leaves the air of Gemini for the amniotic fluid of Cancer.  This two-step is a formula for desires taking form that we can touch, taste or take to the bank, and that pairs with nurturing and emotional expression.

However you clean up your thinking now (or your commute/vehicles/social media stream/communication technology), the tweaks will soon translate into tangible differences in your  mundane reality. With your mind and heart working together, you can aim for targets that have meaning and lead to the direction you want.

Aim is particularly important in the Moon’s aftermath. The next three weeks are teeming with trip wires for action and developments that have been packed and loaded by the change aspects of the past two years. Starting this weekend, we are actively engaging with the aspects.  They are implementing changes and causing us to stretch and grow, but we aren’t merely at their mercy. We are taking action, too — not just having life happen to us, but knocking dominos down ourselves.

The clearer our minds, the truer our aim. Harness this Moon. You’ll navigate the next month so much more smoothly if you do.

So Mars is direct. Now what?

Mars, the ruler of our drive, is now direct, after being retrograde since the beginning of March. If you haven’t seen action, you will soon enough. 2014 Scorpio Full Moon

Cutting loose and moving on are the themes of this month’s Scorpio Full Moon. If you’ve questioned whether or how much your life has changed, the next couple of weeks will resolve those doubts, and how.

Last month restructured us in ways that are only starting to surface. The surfacing is about to speed up, and with that quickening all subtlety is going out the window.

What’s escalating now feels inevitable, monumental, incapable of being resisted and possibly more than a bit irrational. It’s laden with endings, game-altering realizations and permanent changes of mind, heart and arrangements.  It packs the wallop of an eclipse, but isn’t one. (We’re done with eclipse season until October.) Instead, it’s delivering the wherewithal to deal with the eclipses and more that have just passed.

This Full Moon comes with a planetary line-up primed for action that is both responsible and daring.  The tension of last month’s grand cross is still distantly in play, but now with the force of unlocking or severing confinements while healing and stabilizing pour in.

This intricate planetary line-up is bringing an end, abruptly, to lingering traces of the stalemates, stuck situations and enforced inactivity that have stymied so many of us lately. The aspects are providing both the clean-up crew for the fundamental restructuring that we all underwent last month and also the worker bees for the next phase of building. In this atmosphere, butterflies have no choice but to emerge from their chrysalises. Situations that have been on life-support have no chance of continuing. And we have no inclination to throw good money, energy or emotions after bad. Recent experiences have honed our appreciation of personal resources, worth and desires, and we now have every incentive to treat them responsibly.

Relationships are at the core of this Full Moon:  how we present ourselves, our ground rules and expectations, the particular individuals to whom we are connected, whom and why we trust, whom we should no longer, what we put in, what we get back or, more accurately, what we accept back. Venus, the Sun’s ruler, is technically in a stand-off with her mate Mars at the moment, but their relationship, like most humans’, is more complex than that. Each is in the other’s sign, which means that neither can act without the other just now.   Mars’ retrograde motion is adding to the tension, spring-loading it to set off more action after he turns direct next week and triggers Uranus and Pluto in June.

Yhe commanders of the Sun and Moon, Venus and Pluto, are in an exact square, demanding bold, fundamental movement and restructuring, particularly where desire and money are concerned. They are fueling an urgency, compulsion and willingness to go after cravings, however forbidden or unhealthy.  Both are in a hard, catalytic aspect to Uranus, the agent of radical, unpredictable change, which is making a jail break in our hearts.

The counterweight to these impulses is the Moon’s companion,  order-loving Saturn, which brings obligations, ramifications and consequences into the mix. His wagging finger also gets authority from a two-pronged alliance with the Moon’s ruler Pluto. As with Venus and Mars, each is in the other’s sign, (which means neither acts without the other’s involvement), and they are currently teaming to open doors to opportunity.  Saturn is acting as a governor, or at least as the adult in the group, urging caution and attention to cost and repercussions. Humpty Dumpty is a cautionary tale: Whatever breaks now will not be put back together again.

The endings promise to be therapeutic. This breaking and braking occurs amid a round robin of energy flowing from expansive Jupiter to stabilizing Saturn to Chiron, healer of abiding wounds. The choices and pattern-breaking we make now are likely not reckless and ill-considered, but acts of taking care of ourselves. They are the next steps in extricating ourselves from the way we were, of stepping out of shackles that have held us back and of shaking off lingering remnants of strings and wires that have guided our movements.

Keep all those concepts in mind as the next few weeks play out. Events may equally delight and wind you. The direction, source or timing may blindside you, but the development’s content or core should not be a surprise. Fierce, razor-sharp, sudden, breathtaking, what transpires now within and around us is coming out of the deep level activation each of us has experienced. Backsliding is not an option. Humpty Dumpty, remember?

Forecast for May 2014

May is a month of movement. In the first half, our desires and circumstances catch up with each other. The second half knocks the blocks out from under parked cars and all manner of situations start rolling.

All of this is an outgrowth of last month’s mix of stasis, monkey wrenches, breakthroughs, anxiety and deep-level healing.  They put us fundamental changes that are now spreading throughout our lives, agreements and relationships.  Two forces are behind that spreading:  Venus, ruler of all that we value (love and relationships, money, possessions, creativity, beauty), and Mars, ruler of our drive and currently under Venus’ command in the relationship sign of Libra.

The spreading — and the month — month explode with high energy almost on impact, when Venus enters the warrior/hunter goddess mode of Aries on the 2nd. In this sign, the love goddess waits for no man. Social dealings always take on an impulsive, feisty, daring and pouncing quality when Venus is in Aries.

Those traits will become more pronounced this year as Venus connects with all the planets that locked into April’s grand cross.  We all have a much clearer grasp of what matters to us, and that is steering our behavior with a vengeance. There’s no suffering fools, or wasting time on situations that do not engage or further our recently honed desires and values. Caution and timidity are also in short supply. Super-hero strength nerve is on tap for the normally meek and reserved, who’ll go after what they’ve been wanting with uncommon abandon. This could well be fun, flirty and sparking. It will certainly be verbal, once messenger Mercury enters the maneuverability and ease of Gemini on the 7th.

By the time Venus hits the cosmic change agents (first Pluto, then Uranus) on either side of the Scorpio Full Moon on the 23rd, our connections and circumstances stand to be significantly updated.  One point of focus is how well they fit in your new experience of reality. Another is whether they are returning, in any way that has meaning for you, the time, energy, emotion or money that you are pouring into them. Yes means stay. No means evolve or die. It’s that simple.

Then it’s time to implement. Mars turns direct on the 19th and accelerates toward one last journey through last month’s cardinal cross terrain. His turnaround is lifting the pause button on relationship issues, alliances and negotiations that have been hanging since the beginning of March. Think back to what came to the surface between Christmas and New Year’s. Now tie those developments to the intensifying and clearings of last month. They’re up for another round of sharpening, refining, focusing and, ultimately, making real.

New alliances, new structures, new ground rules, new ways of getting along are coming into being as May glides to an end. They’re no longer concepts we’re discussing and negotiating. They are now tangible, practical, bankable and capable of being experienced by all our senses.

This physical emphasis coincides with Mars’s commanding officer shifting from huntress to sybarite, when Venus slips into her sensual, earth-loving home of Taurus on the 28th.  Put up your feet and rest for a spell. Let what you want — you’ve made clear what it is — come to you. Talk as much as you like, though; the Gemini New Moon that same day encourages a lively exchange of ideas

Talk takes on emotion when Mercury begins his yearly stay in Cancer on the 29th. Some people interpret this as an invitation to a pity party. Resist any impulse to personalize or feel sorry for yourself. The energy is too invigorating and forward-driving to risk wasting. Eyes on the future. Eyes on the prize.
